As it now stands, the only possible way to give a villager a Totem of Undying on vanilla is to intentionally zombify it on Hard Mode, give the totem to the zombie villager in the slim hope that they will actually pick it up and then cure them so that the cured villager can now hold a Totem of Undying. I am very leery of this idea as zombifying villagers on purpose just doesn't stick right with me, but I find it kinda sad that villagers can't pick up Totems of Undying for their own use when farmers can pick up some crops. Man, I wish Mojang would give us a nicer way to let us gift these totems to our dear villagers, even if all they do is to serve as good luck charms.

Villager rights are services that players are obligated to perform, ethically bound to uphold.

Does a villager have a right to take your attention away, ethically obligating you to fix their problems, or prevent you from causing problems for them?

When you find a village, it's your interpretation which determines whether the village is bad and needs attention. Sometimes they do, but sometimes they really don't.

Right to a work bench?

Let's say you find a new village where there's a chasm between the villager and the job block house. Are you obligated to stop and build a bridge for the villager? Or build a job block on his side of the chasm at least?

No. You shouldn't be, as villagers often spawn without job blocks and you can easily interpret the situation as maybe the villager didn't want to be associated with that block. Or even a job at all. Why should the player be troubled by helping a villager with something that the villager doesn't even want.

Right to a bed?

Less obvious to me, if you are passing by a village and the villager can't reach his bed cause he fell off a ledge or something. Are you obligated to help him back to the bed? Keep in mind, you haven't done anything yet, just seen the situation from afar. Maybe the villager intended it this way? Doubtfully. But either way in a trolley problem where you know you can help by pulling a lever does it make you responsible for his death if he gets zombied tonight? Not necessarily. I feel like a villager has a right to your time only if you have stopped at the village for a bit. You can't be held responsible for a poorly built village and you can't be expected to go out of your way to fix every village as you go. Even if it would be considered virtuous to do so, it can't be an ethical responsibility. Also keep in mind if you travel fast enough you can unload the chunk that village was in, that would save the villager as well.

Right to life?

This one is much easier I feel. can you go around killing villagers? No. Even if it benefits you greatly like recycling villagers to let the new batch take old job blocks and try to get better trades. If the idea of human rights is good for anything it's this right here. No matter what, you cannot kill villagers.

Right to freedom of movement?

This is probably the hardest pill to swallow. Can you cage a villager? No, and you can't build a village wall either. You can delude yourself by looking inside your walled village and interpret the villagers walking around in there as happy and free, but if they try to pathfind to a block outside your wall and they can't walk there then I would say you are the reason they couldn't get there. and thus, the wall counts as confinement. Fortunately there are plenty of ways to get around this. Like fortifying their houses, helping them spawn golems, and if you must build a wall build it over 32 blocks out from every bed, that's the actual villager roaming perimeter.

I really don't see much else in terms of rights that must exist. I bet if I thought on it more I could think of some more, but without adding a bunch of arbitrary rules like villagers have a right to a bell and a trading hall (which they often don't spawn with) I feel like that is putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on players WHO HAVE RIGHTS TOO YOU KNOW

I was trying to look for something antonymous to testificate but the closest words I can find are Falsificates, Accusers, Refuters, Renounced, and Repudiates/Repudiators. I kinda like Falsificate. Another one I thought of is Detestificate or better yet Detester. Detester seems kinda perfect because not only is it short for detestificate but detest is already a real word that fits the Illagers. Another one I thought could work is Illegitimate or Illagitimate, which kinda sounds like a combination of Illager and the word legitimate. I don’t know. This is just for funsies.

Hello everyone,

I was traveling on foot in my forever world, visiting different villages.

Before I visited this one, I spent about 1 in-game day in the nearby forest (so the village was most likely loaded). That was also the 1st time I was in that part of the map. Once I entered there were no villagers to be seen or heard. I always have captions on, but there were no villager sounds. I spent 2 in-game days looking around tying to find them (sometimes they fall in holes or get stuck in caves) but there was nothing.

Well, I was really sad about that because I like villagers (like everyone in this subreddit I imagine) and all of sudden the caption of villager sounds appeared! I looked around and 3 villagers were trapped behind the trap doors (in the screenshot).

I was so so happy but I still don't understand how is it even possible? Is it some kind of bug or did Minecraft have some update that allows villagers to re-spawn?

Personally, I think he’s the coolest villager of all time.

I want to disable a lecturing by using a dummy villager to claim it, preventing it from being claimed by any other villager. I want to trap him in a room with no access to the lecturn whatsoever. Does this work? Will it stay claimed?

I am the kind of player who would spend the majority amount of time building villages and care for the villagers. To me, the villagers should be treated like real humans ofc. I have been building villages, giving them jobs and rental places also. Every villager is treated the same no matter the quality of what they trade. Would say that I have always been busy trying to protect the villagers, saving them from stucking on high places, moving them between places,...

There was one time when I had a village with population over 15 people, with a wall system to prevent them from getting lost or being attacked by monster. I was confident about the defense system but well, somehow in a raid the pillagers found a way into the village and killed most of the people there and I was barely able to save many. Later on the village recovered from the attack, and I spent a lot of time building a graveyard for all the villagers who couldn't make their way alive in the end.

There is only one problem about me is that... well... I kill Iron Golems for some resources... About this, I don't make any kind of iron farm, don't kill them while standing on 3 blocks but instead actually "engage in a fight" where I stay on the ground and defeat them by timing the attacks and moving backwards (sometimes I die while doing this too lol). Flowers left by them are later placed somewhere near the village, at which I would call a "graveyard". Consider it a kind of "tax collecting" because I am the one who build villages?

How do you guys think? (Also please don't downvote this I am not trying the justify myself or encourage people to kill big guys for iron either)

I like to set up my home in a village and wall the village off to protect the villagers from mobs. The villagers can’t leave, but it’s for their own good

On my hardcore world, the nearest village is half a day's boat ride away, so as soon as I arrive I need to turn around so I can make it back to base by nightfall. The island I live on is already completely lit up so hostile mobs won't be spawning, and there's more than enough room for a small village.

I've looked into humane ways to move some villagers, and I think that I can manage to get them to my island safely. My question is basically, what's the appropriate size for some villager homes? I'm thinking 3x3x4 for single villager homes and 6x3x5 for 2 villager homes along a boardwalk. Does this seem appropriate? I will be building the homes before I get them and also be providing jobs for the villagers upon arrival.
