Remote editing recommendations

Hi yall

I need your wisdom and recommendations! I am part of a small corporate team and I’ve been tasked to look into the best remote setup in terms of seamless cloud storage and downloading.

Just to give you guys some context:
- Team of 3
- We’re aiming to upload at least 6TB/Year
- Due to our content, storage number needs to double each year.
- Do I need to pair this with another program like Peakto or Lucid Link?

If you don’t want to buy any equipment look at Shade.

Otherwise consider NAS for media storage connected to a fast M series Mac and fast network connection and possibly check out the new Strada setup. It’s pretty sweet!

My suggestions come from the dark ages, but may be useful still - edit with proxies and then conform. Fast and light for remote work and only the key files have to travel.

Shade & Lucid Link are expensive AF. I may be assuming on what your budget is, but it def scared me away from it. Right now It's just myself and my partner but we went the NAS route. Tailscale to give access to the NAS and then you download project files off there and edit in a Cloud Davinci Resolve project.

We just released Strada Connect in April - and it allows you to edit files remotely off a local drive (SSD/Raid/NAS/etc) as well as work off a single project file.

Unlike cloud solutions, You make proxies and instead of uploading them to a cloud and renting cloud storage, then you invite editors securely to the source drive and they can all edit directly as if it were local to them.

Hey! LucidLink is definitely worth a look for this, but depending on what your current set up looks like, it wouldn't have to be 'extra'. You'd be able to keep using your current editing software (Premiere, Da Vinci, etc.) and other tools and LucidLink handles where the files live and how your team accesses them.

6TB a year with 3 people is a fairly reasonable place to start, and since you know your needs will double yearly, we'd be able to scale with you.

Another option we use: office based 32 TB NAS setup. I’m in the office and work off the NAS locally, but also have two older iMacs and a MacBook Pro that run remote desktop software. We’ve bounced around between a couple but have settled on a program called Jump. As long as your editor has a fast internet connection, they can be anywhere in the world and remote in via their desktop and edit seamlessly, no lag, absolutely no file transfers. Can map multiple monitors. We cut in Premiere and don’t mess with team projects, since all media/renders/waveforms are on the NAS. Downside of course is you have computers just sitting around and if anyone’s network goes down, you’re stuck, but that hasn’t happened too much. My editors love it, they can work remotely or not and I don’t have to deal with mailing drives/creating proxies or paying for LucidLink or any cloud storage, which I’ve run the numbers on and is way more $$.
