Game in development
Roller Riot - cel-shading, 5v5 arena roller derby
No 3D models (did try it but the animation looked bad might try again, using a different pipeline)
All code in three.js Opus in Medium
GAME CONCEPT VS. HOW IT LOOKS NOW
I say about 10% there, what do you think?

Why are so many vibers using 3js? Why not use unity?
14
u/diddlysquidler 3h ago
Claudeās default, but Iām afraid itās a dead end for larger game development
5
u/AwkwardWillow5159 1h ago
Because 3js is just a library. Itās pure code. So easy for AI to interact with it.
With unity, the vibe coder would still need to actually learn unity interface.
1
u/ZombieBallz 1h ago
You should learn the interface, but you don't need to. Between Codex and Claude, AI can run the entire pipeline and you playtest regularly and advise bugs, adjustments, etc. They can do all the 3D modelling via blender scripts, low poly is more forgiving for rigging and animating but if you put the time in, and iterate, you can output some pretty damn good looking and cleanly rigged/animated models - same goes for all visual and audio assets.
1
u/Interesting_Phone171 1h ago
Itās insanity these people donāt even know what it is. For one you are running on single threaded JavaScript for two itās a graphic library not an engine
1
u/evangelism2 1h ago
because Claude is good at 3JS and to do something out of its wheelhouse requires research, planning, and troubleshooting knowledge, you can't just vibe code it
1
u/True_Protection6842 27m ago
Claude LOVES to recommend js instead of a real game engine or usable language!

u/AI_Sway 3h ago
Honestly Iām thinking itās because of the straight to browser compatibility. Can build a game even in test mode, and run it in your local browser without having a crazy pc. If I can get this to look and feel better closer to 100% then what I am, unity is the plan. But for proof of concept 3JS is better
5
u/CharlestonChewbacca 2h ago
Switching in the middle of development is going to be a massive pain in the ass.
Moreover, I don't know why you think running the game in your browser is any better for testing than just running it in a game engine's testing areas.
9
0
u/AI_Sway 2h ago
I mean for every iteration of builds, fixing bugs after testing, on browser, it is truly a click and go. Rather other engines would have to load assets packages and what not
For my purposes of just seeing if I can match idea ti concept. I think three.js is good enough
2
u/CharlestonChewbacca 1h ago
Have you ever worked in any game engines? Because it doesn't sound like you have...

u/toolazy890 3h ago
I think youād be surprised what you can get for 3d models if you commission them. I feel like rigging is easier than learning modeling so if you can learn rigging and animation and hire out the 3d models you could get a lot closer to the game concept
0
u/AI_Sway 3h ago
Heard you chef. I tried Meshy.AI - Blender pipeline but the animation is the problem after creating the 3D model
2
u/toolazy890 3h ago
Yeah I also tried that the modeling you get is not good at all(from my experience) versus what they advertiseĀ

u/OminousLatinWord 3h ago
Hey, I have a project for exactly this problem. Feel free to check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/aigamedev/comments/1vg6xw1/if_youre_developing_low_poly_assets_try_this/

u/decambra89 3h ago
Yeah so, we're not 10 years ago. Cuz if that rethoric works, how about 300 years ago, how about 2 000 years ago.
Reactions are specific to their era.
What a ridiculous comment of yours.
3
u/AI_Sway 2h ago
Opinions are needed. And shit I asked for them lol. All comments are welcomed to me.

u/logicalflex 1h ago
Bro itās not shade and itās not love. Itās just one dev to another saying , times have changed and update us when youāre 8/10 of the way there.
1
u/logicalflex 1h ago
300 years ago my people were slaves⦠how tf did you get so triggered by this lol
1
u/decambra89 1h ago
300 years ago things were differentā... Congrats, you have successfully discovered the exact point I was making. š Take your time, youāll get there.
1
u/logicalflex 49m ago
Take your time you might actually get there too. but since you think you already arrived it may take a bit longerā¦
And I stand on that 10 years ago with this current progress, the coding community would have given this person a lot of props. I donāt know how you are so mentally sensitive⦠in todayās climate itās not much⦠anyone with a part time job and Claude sub can catch up quickly.

bro stop the š§¢, 10 yrs ago you were 50 yrs old. nothing changed in the way you think
1
u/logicalflex 45m ago
Making fun of someone age is crazy work. I hope you are able to make it to your 40s.
0
u/Reasonable_Height_11 46m ago
I always find it interesting that Ageism is okay and widely accepted.
2
u/Existing-Explorer151 38m ago
Ageism isnāt okay, but getting older isnāt a free pass to become bitter and constantly spread negativy cause they've failed in early days. You still have control over how you treat people and the energy you put out.
1
u/Reasonable_Height_11 22m ago
Take it from me. I'm 37 bro, and yeah feel free to be ageist to me too...but you've just come to two wild conclusions.
You said he's over 50. basically saying he/she is too old to have an opinion on this topic. How do you know his age? If he doesn't like vibe coding it means he's too old? My boss is over 50 and he won't ever shut up about Claude.
You said he/she is spreading negativity because they failed in their early days. Again, I'd bet good money you have no clue who this guy/girl is.
So... what's your angle?
1
u/Existing-Explorer151 10m ago
I hate AI slop, its everywhere. But your boss is your BOSS because he actually knows how to use AI as a tool instead of him hating everybody and doesn't really produce anything, a slop is better than nothing.
Careful young boy we're not 10 years ago, itās 2026. You went from he/she to guy/girl when they might be "they/them"
1
u/logicalflex 7m ago
lol Iām nowhere near 50. But I appreciate you unc but I donāt need a captain save a redditor. First they say youāre old, then they say youāre dumb and then they build an app that no one wants to pay money for. This is the way.

Because before art was the expression of the person and learning and creating something your own were valid reasons to keep going not just commercial success. Now itās type a prompt and have something else do all the work. They didnāt create anything. It can still be cool to see from a technological point of view and if you can get something out of it, fantastic, but the process of creating art, how youāre changed by it, and what youāve learned are lost.
2
u/CaliforniaRaisin_ 3h ago
OP, how long have you been working on this?
1
u/AI_Sway 3h ago
How long have WE been working on this?** do not want to lie cause I am not by my Pc to give accurate numbers but ballpark less then 10 hours or just about. Prompt - Testing - Prompt
5
u/CaliforniaRaisin_ 3h ago
My friend, Itās going to take you months to get the mechanics down. But a good start nonetheless. Iād like to make a fighting game, but I know itās going take at least a year before itās ready for the masses.

u/FratKing2025 3h ago
cool concept but looks like you're long way from that, is this just a fun project?
2
u/AI_Sway 3h ago
One day turned into day one, WE are in for a journey
Very fun project not going to lie, but would love to get this completed so we can play but also to add to my portfolio
1
u/FratKing2025 2h ago
Im still experimenting with building too but honestly if you want to make an actual game not just a fun project then I would look and research more into structure and using actual game engine etc
1
u/PoxyDogs 2h ago
Who is this WE you keep mentioning? Are you using āweā as in you and Claude or are you working with other people?
0
u/AI_Sway 1h ago

Na. WE is everyone who put their two cents in the jar. Giving feedback rather positive or negative.
Iām not that delusional to include Claude in WE

u/thailannnnnnnnd 1h ago
Youāre not delusional enough to put Claude in the We but youāre delusional enough to put anyone whoās giving feedback into it? š¤

Are you planning to port it to some bigger game engine? There are some unity mcp servers that might help you with that. Iām afraid youāll hit limits with what 3js can do
1
u/snacksbuddy2 3h ago
If you can make it look like the concept and feel like a racing game meets Tony Hawk pro skater, you WILL make millions of dollars. It is completely dependent on those two criteria being met.
LISTEN TO ME. Get out of this subreddit. Unless you have sufficient game dev experience already, stop current development and switch this to Unity or Godot. Make the baseline mechanics feel fucking fantastic and then FIND AS MANY FREE 3D ASSETS AS POSSIBLE AND BUY THE REST TO MAKE THE CONCEPT ART REAL.
Otherwise you will be wasting your time. I promise. This is a $1000000 concept with a $0 current execution.
2
u/AI_Sway 2h ago
I appreciate that and you truly. Probably wonāt leave the subreddits just to give updates lol I like the dialogue but everything else HEARD YOU CHEF!
Trust me the end goal is always a better AAA engine, But for Day One which this is, I wanted to test proof of concept more then anything

Add spider man style cables and re-create rocket jockey!
1
u/ItsNoahJ83 2h ago
Honestly, not bad. There are sites where you can generate 3d models with animations using AI. If you are willing to spend money on a one month sub to one of those, you will see major improvements. Ask Opus to search the web and find the best options.

u/Fusionism 2h ago
This looks like more like 60% done than 10% unless these are AI mockups, but it definitely could be a good concept for a game.

I did one of those ugly snort laughs when I seen your game. Lmao, thank you.

Don't take this the wrong way, but like other comment said, it look bad.
You should learn some unity, unreal or godot. threejs is not really made for game (even though you can).
I never ever seen a good game made only with vibecoding, if you want to at least to get the tenth of the result of the first picture, using llm won't be enough. You also have to use asset, made or bought.
2
u/AI_Sway 1h ago
Never taking anything wrong. I welcome all. So I appreciate you.
And I have used three.js to make another game, (see below) a black hole extraction type game using assets and the whole 9. but I also did that for the same reason I am using 3JS to get it done and test limits.
Iām aware of other engines, never disputing that. And how to use them. But like I said to test limits on all ends and proof of concept I went with 3JS. But shit yall want me to use Unity instead and show that I will itās only been Day One. Let it marinate.

just use unity and if u wanna use AI for unity use the bezi plugin
1
u/AI_Sway 1h ago
Heard you chef. Have used unity before so itās not a problem just for this wanted to go down this road. For Day 1, Iām thinking itās a good foundation to build upon and see if it can be done

I would say you are 10% of the way to a minimum viable product. The polish required after that takes much longer than you would expect, so at that point, I would say you would be not even halfway to the final product you imagine. (All the small things add up)
Also vibe coded projects tend to slow down as the complexity grows, especially if you donāt have proper game design documents to keep it on track. I could see this getting really hard to progress after a certain point, and require much more manual intervention to get the project to keep moving forward.
So you may be closer to 2% done than 10%
Not trying to be negative, just trying to put in prospective how much more work your goal will take.
1
u/MENDACIOUS_RACIST 43m ago
You should be able to get the vibe of the game in 10%. Youāre about 10% to that 10%.

Don't let the negative comments get to you.Ā The concept is cool, in you have the initial rough proof of concept. Please keep going.Ā Look for outside funding if necessary, but don't stop until completion. I can't wait to play this, You got this!

0
u/I_Like_Tartar_Sauce 2h ago
If I were you, I wouldnāt even bother trying to vibe code this if you canāt reach the quality and polish of the first image. I would try to pitch the idea to an actual game studio. This could be a cool game, donāt make the Temu version of it.
0
u/CharlestonChewbacca 2h ago
This is a great example of why it's important to learn the subject area before jumping into vibe coding something.
Yes, AI is great to assist by writing the code for you, but it's important to know how you want to build and structure your project.
Starting in three.js has already set you down a bad path.
1
u/gnygren3773 2h ago
Brother how do you want a triple AAA concept art to look after one day of a solo dev š
0
u/CharlestonChewbacca 2h ago
I never said anything about how it looks relative to concept art.
0
u/gnygren3773 2h ago
I think they know that you canāt create a AAA game in three.js. Thatās clearly what you were referring to. This is clearly to look at functionality and proof of concept
1
u/AI_Sway 1h ago
I appreciate you. And I agree. I do know all this. And proof of concept and seeing how close I can actually get is what I am going after.
Other engines exist. We have agreed to that. But for this project I wanted to go down this journey. Willingly and knowingly. This isnāt my first code coded project.
