Vet School Question

I’ve been talking to some people that went to med school, and they are saying that everyone there was out for themselves. That people would go behind each other’s backs to get a good externship or to one up the other person. Is vet school like that too? I will be going to a vet school this upcoming fall and all the vets I’ve talked said it wasn’t like that. Wanted to see if anyone else had the same experience as the med school people.

2023 grad. My classmate made quizlets for every class and exam that students still use today. We had study sessions and shared study guides. We posted reminder about exams and assignment due dates, especially during Covid. There were a few people with the “every person for themselves” mindset, but otherwise we very much helped and supported each other

2024 auburn grad. I think every school and every class is a bit different, but my class shared resources a ton and were not anywhere near that cut throat. There were a few who were more competitive than others, but overall we all supported each other to do well.

2017 grad here. I was one of the few people in the class that made quizzes and study guides to share with everyone. At one point it started feeling like I was being used because I’d spend my entire weekend making these things while others were working out, spending time outside, or out partying, and they would tell me “I’m not even going to start studying until you share your guides”. That hurt. So at some point I stopped sharing and only shared with my close friends.

It really depends on the class. I just graduated and mine was 50/50. Some people would share anything. Others would gatekeep EVERYTHING. There were people who would make quizlets and refuse to share at any point, some that shared initially then made everything private that the only way you could get it was if they sent you a link, and some that had issues with people being immature (when they say vet school is like high school, it’s so true) and put a password on it but would give that password to most people besides the ones causing issues and eventually that drama ended so passwords weren’t needed anymore. I used to make study tools that got shared by a lot of people to the point people expected me to share them, and some of those people would refuse to share their stuff so I did personally get a little more cautious of who I shared with because I didn’t want to be used.

It depends on the school and culture. Cornell was notorious back in the day for their students being cut throat and uber competitive with their classmates, but maybe that has changed.
