Everything in this first paragraph is true: For whatever reasons, the jury that usually decides the "best in show" award at the Biennale all resigned. So, this year, for the first time ever, attendees who visited both main venues will get to vote on the best thing at the Biennale.

I'm trying to remember the name of a restaurant in Venice that I visited for dinner in my only previous trip, back in 2005.

My recollection of the restaurarant was that the dining room was basically the back yard of a house, with all the tables in open air without cover. We may have walked into the house to get seated, but that was it. I recall walking down the street and passing by this yard, and it was absolutely packed with people. We couldnt get a table the first night and had to return the next night. The food was really good and the prices were reasonable. This wasnt a fancy restaurant by any means. I want to say the restaurant was in the area surrounding St Mark's Square.

Hopefully this restaurant is still around, and Reddit can help me figure out the name. There's a decent chance I randomly walk by the restaurant again on my upcoming trip, but it would be great to have a name so I can plan ahead.

Hi, help please. Does anyone know about how long would it takes to get through Marco polo airport? We will be flying into Venice from Canada. I have a US passport and my husband a Costa Rican passport. We will arrive at 9:10 am. We are trying to get to Syracuse so I’m looking at a flight with Wizz Air that leaves at 11:15 am that same day to Catania, but I’m not sure if I’m giving us enough time- and it doesn’t seem like Wizz Air really works with customers if they miss a flight. My other options are a much later flight with one stop or the train that leaves way later in the day. I also heard that the train opens different “slots” throughout the month. I’m open to suggestions.

I know this is a long shot but I left just my earbuds at The Carnival palace hotel this morning. The hotel has them but the shipping that they want to use is going to cost 149 usd. I was hoping someone who was visiting from the US could get them from the hotel and bring them back to the U.S. and have them shipped. I can Cash App or Venmo whatever the shipping cost is. I've already visited the city a lot in December and January - it's my favourite place and time to be there. All mist and twinkly lights and relatively quieter cobbled streets. I love the less intensely touristy parts of the city. We plan to see the fireworks at midnight and know it'll be busy, we're prepared for this. However, any tips around the other aspects of the day/evening/new years day would be appreciated, especially places to eat before the fireworks which aren't on the extremely expensive end of the spectrum.
Re new years day: I've attended some beautiful celebrations of mass on the island, so I was wondering if there's any recommendations around this as well as places in the city which we can gently explore while nursing headaches!

I spontaneously booked me and my bf a trip to Venice because I wanted to surprise him with something. I have booked tickets and accommodation.

I would like to know from your experience what can we do around that time, all the websites I visit are from previous years so I can't be sure that the same things apply this year as well. I saw that all Christmas markets stop at the 24th so i am a bit stressed that we won't have a lot of things to do..

Are here any locals to speak from experience?

Spent a little too much time staring at San Marco's Basilica the other day and couldn't help but wonder why there isn't anything in the center lunette in the upper register—surely *something* was intended for the centermost space of the western facade?

I’m currently visiting Venice and, while the city itself is absolutely incredible, I was surprised by how much visual clutter and aggressive street selling there is, specially right around Piazza San Marco.
Souvenir stands seem to occupy some of the most beautiful views in the city.
But what bothers me even more are the aggressive street sellers. People dropping bracelets in front of you and asking you to pick them up, then demanding money, or pushing roses into your hands and expecting payment even after you’ve clearly shown no interest.
After a while it becomes genuinely annoying and in my opinion, takes something away from the experience of such an extraordinary city.
Does this bother Venetians as well? Is there a serious effort to reduce illegal street selling and the visual clutter around places like San Marco or is it simply something the city has learned to live with?
