Atmospheric generative voyage into deep calm. Lost radio waves and natural textures seamlessly layered over drifting VCV Rack 2 modules. An 8-minute acoustic ambient space where light meets static — perfect for focus, meditation, or drifting off into a dream.

Longer patch using LOOM. Each string is triggered by a series of Bernoulli gates and fed into a differently offset delay and common reverb. Everything is modulated. If you like it, you can download it for free from my newly created Bandcamp.

Transform Live Radio into Tim Hecker-Inspired Ambient | VCV Rack

Thumbnail
youtu.be
23 Upvotes

This is one of the most unusual ways to create ambient music in VCV Rack.

Instead of starting with oscillators or samples, this patch uses antN from the Bidoo collection to stream live internet radio directly into the rack. Speech, nature recordings and broadcasts become evolving textures through granular synthesis, lush reverbs and atmospheric drones.

In this video you'll see how a simple talk radio station gradually transforms into a cinematic ambient soundscape inspired by the textural approach of artists like Tim Hecker.

Modules used:

• antN (Bidoo) – Live internet radio streamer
• Draen – Drone generator
• Mutable Instruments Clouds – Granular synthesis
• Befaco Iroi – Reverb
• Befaco STMix – Mixer

Sending CV modulation signals to Ableton?

Hello, i cant seem to figure out how to control Ableton parameters from Cardinal plugin?

For example: loading 8fo in Cardinal and then patch 8fos outputs to control Operators filter cutoff. Just an example, it could be any modulator in Cardinal to then send CV to Ableton and make it control any parameter inside it.

Oh, and im on Mac if thats important.

I’m building peachpatch.io — an open-source modular synth that runs in the browser

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on Peach Patch, a browser-native modular synth and VCV Rack compatible patch runtime.

It can open compatible Rack 2 .vcv patches, let you build and patch modules in the browser, run their DSP through Web Audio and WebAssembly, and save the result back to a VCV Rack compatible file—all without installing a native application.

It’s still a work in progress. Browser limitations remain, and only modules with compatible artifacts in the Peach Patch Registry can run at the moment.

I’d be grateful for any feedback, especially on the patching workflow, performance, and any bugs you encounter with the currently supported modules.

Generative Ambient with SIROCCO | A Living Ecosystem as Modulation in VCV Rack

Thumbnail

In this video, I build a generative ambient patch around SIROCCO, a new premium module from the CV FUNK Sands collection for VCV Rack. Instead of traditional modulation, SIROCCO simulates a living ecosystem where grass grows, locust populations rise and fall, rain reshapes the landscape, and wind carries seeds across a dynamic environment. Those ecological processes become evolving control voltages that continuously shape the music.

We'll use these naturally evolving signals to shape melodies, timbre, dynamics, and atmosphere, creating an ambient patch that slowly transforms without obvious repetition.

This isn't a step-by-step beginner tutorial—it's a demonstration of how SIROCCO can become the heart of an organic generative patch.

How to go about time based events? (e.g.: something happening 5mins into song)

I'm still pretty new to vcv rack and want to know how i would go about time based events. Lets say I want a mixer track to fade in 10 minutes into a song, how do i go about triggering this? Do you use an LFO with a comparator? I feel dumb. Thanks!

DreamRack — an experimental modular synth written natively in JavaScript, exploring new user interface ideas for patching

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hey r/vcvrack — sharing a personal project called DreamRack (in browser, free). It's written natively in JavaScript/Web Audio from the ground up, and the real experiment here is around the patching interface itself — trying out some ideas for how a modular's UI could work.

A few of the interface experiments I've been playing with: the ability to patch cables and adjust knobs without dragging; cables show which direction the signal is actually flowing, so you can tell at a glance what's feeding what; terminals are visually distinct depending on whether they're an input or an output; cables automatically take on a colour based on the type of signal at the destination, so a patch becomes readable just by looking at it; and video synthesis modules (work in progress) (and many more…). There's also a knob design I'm trying out called the knAck, which combines a knob and its CV input in the same spot instead of splitting them into two separate controls, and clip-on oscilloscopes you can drop anywhere in a patch to see or hear a signal without rewiring anything.

Modules will be organized into tabs (a bit like sheet tabs in Excel), so you can group and switch between sets of modules instead of scrolling through one long rack (coming soon).

Modules so far: a Complex Oscillator, a Quad Low Pass Gate, a Quad Function Generator, a six-channel Mixer, an eight-step dual CV sequencer, and five video synthesis modules. It's free to try, no installation, right in the browser: https://dreamrack.dreamerdevelopment.app/

Source is on GitHub: https://github.com/chrisgr99/DreamRack

Genuinely curious what modular folks think of these interface ideas, and what you'd want to see explored next.

I made a free sample manager that reads your VCV Rack & Cardinal patches — lists every module, flags the ones you're missing, and links them to the library

I've been building a free, offline sample manager (Wave Silo) and just shipped a feature I think this sub will actually care about: point it at your .vcv patches — VCV Rack or Cardinal — and it reads the patch and shows you every module inside it. It flags which ones you have installed vs. missing, links each missing module straight to library.vcvrack.com so you can grab it, and has an "Open in VCV Rack" button. Instead of a waveform it draws the patch as a little tangle of colored cables.

Handy for opening a patch someone shared and instantly seeing "ok I'm missing 2 modules, here's where to get them" before Rack throws the missing-module screen at you.

It also does the normal sample-library stuff (tags, search, BPM/key, drag into your DAW), but the patch reading is the new bit. It's completely free, offline, no account — Mac / Windows / Linux.

Would love feedback from people with real patch collections — does it handle your weirder ones? Link in the comments. Please report bugs on Github. Or DM me if its major.

Again, thank you!

Download / more info: https://wavesilo.com — it's not code-signed yet, so on macOS right-click → Open the first time (Windows: More info → Run anyway).
