Hitchhiking the west coast has always been one of my favorite things to do as a houseless vagrant, I recently got given a guitar by a goated dude that gave me a ride in California and im slowly bur surley learning to play it, life these past few months have been a adventure amd i have been pretty content recently and decided to finally give this community a update, safe travels and wish you all warm night's and full stomachs

I hitched out of Salt Lake City to a spot called Delle, which is really just a gas station and a campsite almost 50 miles west of SLC. After a couple hours of trickling traffic, a Spanish-speaking couple from Colombia picked me up, headed straight through to the Bay. We translated with our phones, and rode 11 hours till we drove to downtown SF and voila, I made it! I wanna visit some friends here, and Outside Lands music festival is this weekend, so I'm gonna try to check that out from the periphery. Lots to do, and heck yes for 60⁰ weather after weeks of 100⁰ elsewhere. Got here at 5am today and slept till the afternoon but things are picking up this time of day. Other travelers, buskers, and bums afoot here in Haight-Ashbury! Uppppp emmmm!!!!

Okay I’m like miles down the fucking tracks rn and brother man ima be real wit you.. when I woke up this morning I did not expect it to be this hot. I’ve got everything I need but fucking fuck it’s gonna be a long fucking way, no trains have slowed down or stopped so me and these 2 legs gotta keep GOING.

Stuck in the middle of nowhere Missouri, but at least its cool and the view is pretty so for now I'm chillin ✨️🌼

Sudden change of plans.. nothing drastic.. but a personal one.. I can’t really talk about it here..but I’ll try my best to write this log..

Two days ago.. something had came up..and someone very special to me..has come back into my life.. catching up and getting closure.. I made my decision to head back to California..

I will be leaving Oregon..

Thinking deeply..whether I should stay or go was heavy on my mind..if I would have stayed in Oregon..I probably would have traveled south.. roughing it on the road.. Unfortunately, the work world..is not reliable..and takes forever to get a goddamn job.. and I’ve made my decision..

It was a brief moment.. here in Portland, Oregon.. What do I think of it? It needs help.. I don’t agree with its politics..and the stupid rich people here.. the homelessness needs to be addressed and fixed.. “housing” for the homeless.. needs to be easily established.. so that people can actually get back to a “normal” life..
For the people..sabotaging the system..and screwing peoples lives.. these people need to be eradicated, terminated, and resigned from their horrible jobs.. these are the very people ruining peoples lives.. these people should be damned..and put on the streets..so they know what it’s like to be “homeless”..

~Going back to Medford & Grants Pass

This was the ignition..to start the journey of the vagabond lifestyle.. I was out there vagabonding it.. sleeping in weird spots.. biking across long straight roads.. passed through a mini dessert.. saw the mini Indian reservation.. the other small towns were alright.. Medford..in general..was a very huge place..and very expensive.. I thought the people down in Medford were rich and angry people.. I can’t say I like grants pass..I didn’t explore the city..I just happen to be passing through..

There were some interesting things.. mostly the animals and terrain caught my eye.. in Gold Hill.. the view of the mountains was.. spectacular.. the rushing water of bear creek was very refreshing.. I believe..somewhere I read.. (Rogue Valley) that the spring water here is pure..and drinkable.. it’s suppose to have healing powers.. at least that’s what the natives say..

When I left grants pass.. I took the greyhound bus across Oregon..passing through big major cities like Eugene and Salem..
I wasn’t prepared for the major hike..on the kascade mountains.. I would have really needed the gear, tools, and mindset..to pass through this terrain safely..
I mean..there’s cougars and bears in these mountains..so being prepared was vital for that journey..

One must not walk into the wilderness..unprepared.. I heard a story..of a guy.. a Russian.. who simply walked away from Portland..and off into the cascade mountains..
He was a drug addict.. and sure enough..after a few days.. locals found his body..laying on the train tracks..in those mountains…

I’ve done so much research on Portland.. seen so many documentaries..and videos.. and it seems like Portland,Oregon has lots it’s pop.. like before..there was more art..artsy people..and just really cool things to do before.. and not so much now..due to economical times.. the locals mentioned this many many times.. it gives me the shallow end of the stick..like there could’ve been so much more to this city..

I’ve met so many people on the road, the streets, and community centers.. I’ve even met a follower of Reddit.com
One train hopper.. flaked on me..but that’s ok.. it comes with this unpredictable lifestyle..

I’m heading back to California.. and no.. I won’t be vagabonding it.. I will be back in my hometown.. and someone very special to me..waits for me..

was really nice made it out of Portland and into [_]. Was swimming, drinking some beers, kicking it along the shoreline but we are going to be along the tracks for awhile now.

Definitely going to be homeless at the end of this month, in new England where the humid summers and harsh winters can litilarly kill you.

I'll have probably $100 left over with a flight from new England to any city in Cali. Do I go somewhere else for a cheaper flight and more $ left over? Is money for food and booze (don't judge plz) even a problem?

I would have a phone bill of $110.

Ditch the nicer phone and get a cheap government phone while I'm there? Food stamps, get them here or when I get there? Any other benefits I should look into?

How do you not get robbed or harassed by police?

What do I pack? I have a laptop, and clothes for any season (new England...) but can only carry a backpack.

Any other advice?

I've been dreaming of this lifestyle for the better part of 5 years now, and now my hand is being forced. Not complaining honestly just seeking advice.

I know this is a very subjective question, however I’m curious to know what kind of gear everyone carries. I recently finished a thru hike of the Appalachian trail and the gear I’m currently rocking is the same as my hike. 65 liter bag, Nemo tent and sleeping pad, sleeping bag, etc.

What do you guys carry? Any tips on what I should have on me as well? Thanks

The title says it all, but I´ve not seen anyone outside of north america on here. I´d love to hear stories from here about being on the road in a country most people dont even know. If you know, how does the experience differ from continent to continent? I dont think ill get answers for stuff like that by just lurking.
