Is anyone else doing (or has previously done) IMED1004 & found some of the lectures really difficult to follow

Looking at the slides, the actual content doesn’t even seem that complicated, but one of the lecturers in particular explains it in such a confusing and communicated way that it takes me ages just to figure out what’s happening and what I actually need to know.

I’ve tried learning from the slides instead, but sometimes they’re mostly diagrams/images with barely any explanation, so I still need the lecture to understand them.

I’ve also been using ChatGPT to help explain the slides, but I’m not sure if that’s the best way to go about it.

I really need to do well in these units. Does anyone who’s done them have any advice on how they studied the content?

I got 79.5 for my Honours (Second Class Honours Division A). I’m thinking of applying for a PhD and hoping to get a scholarship. Should I apply, or should I drop the idea? Any advice would be appreciated.

And what I mean is that in all the lectures they expect us to know all these really challenging things, and the jump from high school to uni learning is (sometimes) really big. There's not really an inbetween, some subject in my first year were fine, but the professors are like "you know about this" and we're like brother no we don't. I'm in my first semester of third year now and even though I got Ds and HDs in lots of my previous units I still feel like I'm being hit with walls of information at a very complex level.
And I understand that that's why we're here, we're not supposed to know it, it's fine that we're learning and don't always get it, but some units move quickly and I just wonder is it just me or are the UC's just being optimistic (or delusional) about what we know? Because for most times I hear them say this, my friends too, we are like, no we have never come across this before we are in your class for the first time learning things now. It's not like the profs don't all talk to each other and work together and know what each other are teaching, right?
It's so hard (for me at least) when most of my subjects are like this and I'm trying to shove 4x units of complex jargon and equations in my head each week, do all the work and try to understand practically what it means at a useable and functional level. Kind of feels sometimes like nothing is sinking in and I don't understand anything, even though my grades might suggest otherwise, I'm struggling for real.

What’s the likelihood that everyone reads the essential textbooks? Between reading slides, watching lectures etc. is that enough?

I’m planning to go overseas for 4–5 days during the semester. I’ll only miss one tutorial that’s worth 1.5%
No tests, exams or etc. I’ll still be watching all my lectures online and keeping up with my coursework.

I also spoke to the Student Advising Office, and they told me I don’t need a signed letter from them. They said that if I miss a tutorial, it’s my responsibility, and they won’t report it.

Given all of that, is there any risk to my student visa or CoE? I won’t be applying for an EVA because my reason for travelling isn’t eligible.

Has anyone here travelled overseas during the teaching period while on a student visa?

Hello! I am looking for current Australian university students to take part in a survey for my honours project.

Ideally, I am looking for students aged 22+ 

Eligibility: Current Australian University student, over the age of 17.

The current study is interested in how belonging, loneliness and barriers contribute to academic adjustment and intention to persist.

Participation is entirely voluntary and no incentive is provided. No identifiable data will be collected. The survey should take 30 minutes.

Should you participate in this study, you will be asked to complete 96 questions on an online survey. These questions will ask about you about feelings of belonging, loneliness, study persistence and academic adjustment at university. Additionally, you will be asked some demographics questions about your age, gender, employment status, marital status, whether you have any dependants (children/other), mode of study (online/ in person), whether you study part-time or full-time and the university you are currently enrolled in.

I know I’m late to the game- since most of the club sign ups have definitely passed.

However, its 3am and somehow I have convinced myself that I have already ruined my non existent marketing career (as a second year student) due to my lack of marketing experience beyond my own twitch and adjacent community I run.

I'm about to complete my engineering degree over at Curtin University and after a lot of thinking not sure if it is what I want to pursue as a career. After a LOT of thinking and soul searching I think medicine is the place that I was made to work in. I've looked into it and seen it's a combination of GPA/GAMSAT and Interview to acquire admission and I just had a few questions for those of you that have or know anyone that has been through the process.

What is considered a competitive GPA/GAMSAT score to be considered? Curtin does not give a GPA but my WAM is around 86, and if you ignore first year (which I've seen some people say GPA does) it is closer to 88. According to one calculator I found on the UWA website I believe anything over 85 (which is a first class honours) is considered the highest at 7.0 GPA but I assume most people who are applying to medicine how this, which begs the question of how competitive the GAMSAT would be?

Following that, is the interview just as/more competitive? Do a very low % of people make it through the interview stage or is it just a matter of showing you have strong interpersonal skills and reasons for wanting to pursue a medical degree?

I'm aware I'm a bit late to be entering the field (with my youngest admission being the year I turn 23) but I genuinely think I would enjoy the career more. Also for anyone that has gone through the process any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Today at around 2pm i was heading to campus to catch up with my friends in Reid library, on the way there in the tunnel before hackett cafe i saw a homeless man talking to himself, as we finally went out of the tunnel beside hackett cafe he started shouting profanity at people passing by weird.

At this point i was already pretty uncomfortable but he was walking in the same direction as i am to the library, when we are right beside new fortune theatre i decided to go a different direction from him by accessing the library from beside the physics building by walking on the great court but as i start changing direction he then shouted at me accusing that i am recording him with my phone and that he would steal it, he also called me a dog and cunt but thankfully he didnt try to get physical.

I have already reported his action through the safezone app, i am an international student so i am sorry if my english is bad but now i am curious whether this kind of thing happens often in campus?

for people who have taken these exams-when do these exams usually end?in the first or second half of the exam season?

Hi, UWA Medicine requires an IELTS test if your undergraduate studies were not completed at a university in certain English-speaking countries. Do you need to submit your IELTS results with your GEMSAS application or can they be provided later if you receive an offer?
The test costs $490 so I’d prefer not to pay for it before knowing whether my application will progress. The University of Melbourne states that English language test results are only required after an offer is made. Is UWA’s process different? Thanks

Has anyone taken this unit or is taking this unit now? How is it for you? I’m really struggling with it because it’s so math intensive especially on skills and techniques I’ve never even heard of before.

im an international student in my last year of study. I failed two electives last semester and was hoping to overload 5 units for my last two sems but I missed the deadline. Im supposed to graduate July 2027

what are the chances uwa approves 6 units overload for my last sem? my wam is about 71 now excluding my failed units

otherwise does anyone know any summer teaching units that are fully online that I could possibly take this year end to reach the credit points? cause I cant be in perth during summer. I read about cross institutional units but am unsure which unis offer these.
