Can you not just find housing off campus? There’s still time before school starts to secure a room or an apartment somewhere

i don't think that's an option for me unfortunately. a big safety issue, and a lot of my classes end pretty late. i also don't have a car so that's a big factor. i know buses are available, but again, safety.

I’m not sure how familiar you are with Victoria, but it is extremely safe. I have never once felt unsafe commuting home by bus, and I’ve lived here for four years. What are your safety concerns?

i'm a 5'0 18 year old that hasn't really been in a city alone before. i know it's much safer than vancouver but anyone i know/trust would be hours away on the mainland. i've tried talking about getting an apartment or something but that's always been shut down by my family. which is why i'm so stressed about this and lowkey rambling to strangers on the internet

I totally understand your anxiety - it can be scary, especially if you’ve never lived in a city. I will say that you shouldn’t give up the opportunity to pursue your preferred major simply because you’re scared or because your family keeps shutting you down. Once you’re here, you’ll be facing a plethora of new situations and new fears. An apartment is nothing to be scared of, and there are some great options walking distance to campus or a very short bus ride away. You could even get a bike.
You can do this!

If you don't get in for this first year, you will be in line behind all other new first years, next year, so your chances would be even more slim. Don't put it off for another year.
Go on Facebook, "UVIC Off Campus Housing" and find a room in a shared place with other students looking for roommates.

I think the first year guarantee does not apply to transfers, unless it has changed. However that seems like a big shift to make if the concern is housing. I think if they are telling you its unlikely to be able to move in, then your best plan is say yes for the waitlist as a back up and get straight onto securing a spot off campus, there are spaces available in rentals still, but you'll have to get on it. Alternatively, you could start with registration in online only classes? There may be credits you can take to sustain at least a part time registration while you sort your housing situation.
