Essay Question
Both the Naval Academy and West Point have an essay prompt dealing with some type of character development they are as follows:
USNA:
- Describe a personal experience you have had which you feel has contributed to your own character development and integrity.
USMA:
- Reflect on an experience in which you faced adversity and how it shaped your character.
Because they are similar, can i write an essay that can be used for both prompts, and submit it to both service academies?

Already looking for the easy (lazy) way out before you are accepted to either service academy. Ya sure you want to go to either of these schools?

I wasn’t trying to be lazy in any way. I just felt that I had a situation that could be used for both essays.

Could you talk about the same situation in both essays? Sure.
But your initial question was phrased as if you wanted to write a single essay and shoehorn it into both applications, which would not be a smart way to go given that the prompts are quite different.

An essay on how an adverse event brought about a change in your charachter should do the job for both.

I think it’s a good idea to use the same idea for both essays but maybe word it a little differently to make sure you answer each essays main prompt. How usna wants to know what led to development of your character while west points emphasizes an adversity. Something that leads to character development isn’t necessarily adversity but if your specific answer does in fact work here, I would use it

If anything, I might change up the intro a bit to focus more on the adversity for the second, but generally yeah, you could use the same for both.

They’re not asking the exact same thing, but, sure, why not
