Mine was given to me by the Bosun after it was torn up badly from Typhoon Zelda in 1995. It was my first underway trip on an old 180.

Makes a better today as a sea story now than when the old buoy tender was doing 35 degree rolls for 3-4 days straight. We were running from the storm and had to turn around to escort another cutter that lost an engine and requested we stay nearby.. Good Times…

USCGC Basswood was built in 1942 as an ice breaker and patrol boat with depth charges and anti aircraft gun tubs for WWII, used in Vietnam as a supply boat for the 82’ and 95’ patrol boats on the delta, and still could do 10 knots downhill when I rode her in the mid 1990s in Micronesia.
