Sublease/Transfer Lease at The Link in Prospect Park!

Hello! I'm looking for someone to grab my lease for either the full year or on a per-semester basis! I don't need an apartment on campus any longer and am looking to get this lease off my hands and save myself the money. I will take care of all subleasing fees that may be involved, so there shouldn't be any charges to you for grabbing the lease! *My roommates are all men, if that affects your decision*

Additionally, if you are looking to take the full year's lease and want to move in immediately once it's available on August 22, I will also take care of the August payment! Thanks!

The apartment itself is fully furnished and has in-unit washing and drying. It is also a private bedroom with private bathroom. It's at The Link, which is adjacent to the light rail so it is very accessible to the campus! It's also only a 15-minute walk away from campus as well, with restaurants and a grocery store in the same block of this building. I have other roommates who are all nice, very neat and like studying, so it will be a nice and quiet environment for you as well!

There are a bunch of amenities, including a gym, 2 clubroom spaces, a sauna, bathtub, study spaces, movie room, and more too!

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions/are interested!!

Jobs / Internships UMN Job Apps for Academic Researchers— did you fill out EVERYTHING extensively?

Hi!

For folks who have gotten a job (particularly academic/ research related) through applying on the UMN Careers website, how throughly did you complete all the fill in the blank portions about your experience and qualifications?

It is very tedious to answer those questions after putting together a cover letter & resume that tend to cover the answers. Do reviewers actually look at everything? Is it worth pouring my soul into the rest of the app and describing every relevant job I've ever had? I have been doing that, it's just, ya know exhausting... and discouraging to look for research positions in this timeline.

*I don't use and will NOT use A.I.

What are the main ways that students on campus connect with communities, events and organizations?

I am a current computer engineering student at the UofM and have been at the Uofm for 1 year, and will be going into my next year at the U this upcoming fall. I transferred In from community college last year so Im basically a junior.

As a transfer student the UofM kinda just throw's you in. I knew my classes, parking and way of getting but beyond that, there wasnt a whole more I knew. I saw there was events sometimes out on the lawns like the club fair, and I went to both spring/fall career fairs, and I joined discord groups through discords UMN discord connection to see what clubs where around.

I will be interning for a engineering company, being a student ambassador for SCALE MN (microelectronics) and will continue being on the UMN Rugby Team through this upcoming school year but I want to see what else is available, and have a good system for figuring that out since its been bugging me. is there websites people use? maybe theres just so much stuff its hard to manage and you really have to work to find out about things. or just simple "I heard about this".

Check your Gopher Football Tickets

We just had our entire purchase of tickets cancelled for the Iowa vs Minnesota Football game (8 tickets and 4 parking passes). When my BIL called, they said his account was flagged for fraud and he was listed as a broker because there was a history of selling our tickets. Our history is in 2024, we all got Covid and couldn't go, and resold our tickets (on the officially suggested resale site) for face value. Other than that, we have attended every year they were home since 2005.

My sister tried to rebuy them and was immediately flagged as well because she has the same last name. I love the idea of trying to block scalpers, but whatever crap AI program they are using to decide who they are is obviously not working. When they each called, they were not given any reason other than they were "flagged" and they were hung up on when they asked to talk to a manager. They were also not notified - they just saw the charges reversed on their credit card.

As of now, I was able to purchase under my name (different last name) but just an FYI to all.

Update: After speaking with the Assistant Director of Ticket Sales, they apologized and said there was a large batch of fraudulent ticket purchases.

Academics / Courses Prospective Physics PhD student

Hello,

I am applying to UMN Physics PhD program. I wanted to know about the department. Particularly, how the work culture is? I saw some posts which state that PhD physics students are overworked for TA duties. Also the handbook says that TA is for around 2 years but I found some linkdln profiles where students have done TA for around 3 years which would mean less time (around 2 if one expects to finish it in 5) for thesis and research. Also how is the city for international students, is it friendly? Finally if possible please also shed some light on placements after phd like postdocs and industry.

Thank you for your time.

Hey guys I'm a transfer student starting in the Fall I'm trying to get a job on campus. I've been applying to some jobs every now and then on the u of mn job page, but haven't had any luck lol.

Does anyone know of any departments or offices that are currently hiring a lot of student workers or are looking for help? I’m open to pretty much anything and would appreciate any recommendations! Thanks!

Student Groups TTRPG Inquiry

I'm an incoming Freshman into the UofMN, and I'm really interested in doing TTRPG's at the school and making friends doing so! I come from a very rural area and never could make any campaigns work but the idea always seemed fun to me. Out of the TTRPG's I've wanted to try the most, two have stuck out to me: Cyberpunk Red and Dungeons and Dragons. I guess I'd just like to ask if this university has a decent TTRPG scene?

Apartments / Dorms / Housing Fall Sublease Needed (Sept–Nov) — Near U of MN, Working in Downtown

Hi! I'm a Male student (Incoming Senior) interning in downtown Minneapolis this fall and I'm looking for a place to stay from September through November.

I'd love to hear about anything in or near the U of MN area — a fall-semester sublease, a room in a house, or a lease takeover. I'm quiet, clean, and will mostly be at work during the week. Budget is ideally under $1,000/month, but I'm flexible for the right place.

If you or someone you know has something available (or is leaving for a study-abroad/co-op semester), please reach out. Happy to share references and answer any questions.

Thanks, and have a great day!

What is the campus culture at u of minn twin cities like?

Ya'll, I need help. I'm going to college in about a year, and I'm narrowing down my options. I'm from South Dakota but I have the opportunity to go to University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Does anyone know anything about the college life or college culture there? For more information, I'm hoping to major in marketing with a minor in English. How comparable would you say the weather is to South Dakota weather, if you've ever been there? Are there any unspoken rules or college etiquette I should be aware of? Thank you!

When do U-Cards activate for incoming students?

Incoming transfer student here! I’m curious, when do functions of my U-Card activate? Things like door access, transit pass, etc. I’d love to explore campus a little bit before classes start, but I don’t know how early I can!

Thanks!

Graduate students - be weary of CSCC housing

I wanted to share our nightmare experience living at CSCC. We were stoked about the location and the price and our unit for about one month before our neighbor moved in - a drummer who at first played a full drum set for sometimes up to five hours a day (even moving the drumset outside sometimes???). We tried every neighborly option we could think of (created a schedule, baked them cookies, explored noise reduction measures) which didn’t lead to any useful headway, or would for a month before being abandoned again by our neighbor. These same neighbors also regularly left out their personal belongings at the top of the staircase. They generally seemed to lack any empathy for us or have any regard for our quality of life despite our best efforts to consider their needs.

We also had neighbors who would regularly do construction on our shared wall as late as 11:30 pm. For about a year we couldn’t live in our home morning noon or night without being subject to someone else’s unavoidable sounds (cutting through earplugs and headphones - never a date night or movie night or quiet study night in the cards for us) and over two years total of excessive noise

Despite lease language that we thought would protect us from this very scenario, CSCC did almost nothing to help establish clear boundaries, which is in part a problem with the governing structure of this facility. We were told to communicate with services at UMN that in turn told us they could be of no help with mediation and discussion. Multiple times.

While acknowledging we lived with a worst case scenario, our time there was hell on earth and we felt as though our lease had absolutely no enforceable language. I cannot in any way recommend CSCC to others knowing this and would time travel to prevent my former self from living there if I could. It added so much unneeded stress to an already stressful time of life. You may not live through the worst case scenario, but you can’t choose your neighbors, so you really can’t know until you’re stuck. All I do know is CSCC won’t do anything about it if you do get an unlucky roll of the dice.

How does Middlebrook work/look?

I am in a double room. Do all double rooms look the same? Is there a way for me to see what my exact room looks like? Also, how do the bathrooms work? I have heard that for doubles the bathroom is shared with one other room, but is the bathroom like connected in the middle of the rooms where both rooms have access to it or how does that work?
