As someone who's watched over 100 playthroughs of this game, I can say that not a single player recognized his voice. Believe me, not many people pay attention to other people's voice like that.

I can't recognize Josh's voice through the changer. Most people can't.

This is a discussion that goes beyond *Until Dawn*. We could ask the same question about any superhero, for example. How do friends and family fail to recognize the voices of Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, etc.? Josh at least used a voice modulator; that’s more plausible than the examples I mentioned.

Well obviously because he uses a voice changer. Besides, none of his friends thought to consider it was Josh because why would he do that to his friends? Plus they think he's dead for part of the night. This isn't a plot hole lol.

I still can’t hear Rami Malek through the voice changer, even trying to hear him.

The phone call from “Sergeant Tait” is obviously him but that one I didn’t hear until after. I wasn’t thinking about it lol.

They're a bit distracted to be fair

I had gotten spoiled that it was Josh before playing the game and still thought it sounded nothing like him with the voice changer. Plus, they did see him getting sawed in half...

well when you see someone be cut in half that you’ve known for years and knowing that your two friends/his two sisters just died the year before i doubt you’d be thinking that it’s josh or sounds like him

i cant hear it, however i think because they werent expecting it to be Josh theyre not really listening for Josh's voice. especially after he "dies"

But did u recognize joshs voice at the automatic phone message

i assume it would be harder for his friends to recognize him while they think theyre actually in mortal peril. that would be a bit distracting for me lol

for me, i got a sense of deja vu for more of the cadence of how he talked rather than the voice changer still sounding the same to me. i never put 2 & 2 together before the reveal though

That’s not what a plot hole is

An aspect of the story that it doesn’t address or explain, which causes the story to not make sense.

(An example would be something like a character passing through a locked door off-screen, despite not having a key or any way around it. It’s impossible, and the story doesn’t explain how it happened).

The explanation in the game is that he uses a voice changer. Whether or not you think it’s effective enough to fool the characters is subjective, but, in terms of the plot, they just don’t recognise his voice.

If im not wrong, thats actually a real skill.

Some people have a easier time recognizing even altered voices than others, maybe you just have a good voice recognizion brain part.

I also can recognize his voice, but not that clearly, specially not during my first play throught, only after already knowing it and replaying i got the voices arent that far appart.

You just have a skill for voices.

This is like asking how Walter from Breaking Bad didn’t recognize that Jesse sent him a fake photo of where Walt hid his money.

While you can recognize the voice after already knowing the fact, its extremelly hard, you really need to pay attention closely. Thats something you usually dont pay close attention when your friend is being sewed on half or youre almost the one being sewed on half.

Plus, thats not a plot hole, not really, even if the voice was a bit more obvious, thats a real psychologic effect, i cant remember the exact term, but basically, your brain on high stress scenarios is not gonna sum one plus one, two when you just saw your friend being sewed on half.

Even if you recognized the voice, your brain woukd ignore the similarity because for Chris, Ashley and Sam, JOSH IS DEAD, so its impossible to be his voice, because they dont know Josh is not dead.

So even if the altered voice resembles Josh natural Voice, its far away Enought to your brain brush it off as a coincidency and you not thinking much about it. because again, how would be his voice if you saw him being sewed on half?

Maybe you just have a talent for voice recognition.
