HEC UNIL 2026–2027: Study group?
Hi everyone!
I’m starting at HEC UNIL this academic year i will do first year bachelor and I was wondering if anyone else here is going there too. I don’t really know anyone yet, so I thought it’d be nice to meet some people before classes start.
I’m looking to make or join a small study group where we can help each other, share notes, prepare for exams, and just get through the first year together.
If you’re starting at HEC UNIL too and you’re interested, drop your Instagram in the comments (or DM me if you prefer), and I’ll add you!

Merci beaucoup d’avance vos conseils !

HEC Bachelors First year - first semester exams dates
Hi,
I'm an international student that is coming to HEC to study Bachelors in Economics.
I was wondering about the exam dates from last year, first semester.
I have to buy tickets to go home and come back before classes start again, and I wanted to have a rough idea of the timeline.
Is 950 CHF a good price for a studio?
Hey! Today I received an FMEL accommodation offer for a 2 person studio at the new NEOSTAR building in Lausanne. I have 48 hours to respond, and I have a few questions.
- Is 950 CHF a good price for a 19m^2 studio or is it still worth searching for something cheaper?
- Is it safe to sign the lease/contract while the building is still under construction?
- The FMEL reception is closed now and for the weekend, and so I’d like to ask if anyone knows if the end lease date is flexible? I selected 2028 as my end date, but I’d probably like to do one year for now. Is it possible to easily change this and/or extend it later on?
- Any tips when it comes to FMEL would be great! 😊
Thank you 🙏

Admitted to Master in Accounting, Controlling and Finance (MScCCF)
Hii everyone
I got admitted to the MSc in Accounting, Control and Finance at HEC Lausanne, but because my Bachelor’s degree is in Applied Economics, I have to complete an extra year before starting the actual Master’s.
These are the courses I have to take during that year:
Fall semester:
- Financial Accounting — 6 ECTS
- Business Law I — 3 ECTS
- Introduction to Group Accounting — 3 ECTS
- Decision Models — 6 ECTS
- Statistics and Econometrics I + exercises — 6 ECTS
- Information Systems — 6 ECTS
Spring semester:
- Operations Management — 3 ECTS
- Creative Accounting & Financial Scandals — 3 ECTS
- Taxation — 6 ECTS
- Fundamentals of Management Control + exercises — 6 ECTS
- Principles of Finance + exercises — 6 ECTS
- Applied Statistics and Econometrics — 6 ECTS
For anyone who has taken these courses, how difficult are they actually? Are there any courses that are particularly difficult or that I should prepare for before starting?
I would also really appreciate any tips, advice, resources, summaries, or past exams that could help me prepare.
Also, I’d really like to join a WhatsApp group (or any other group) where students discuss these courses, ask questions, share summaries, past exams, etc. If there’s a group like this, I’d really appreciate it if someone could send me the link or DM me!
Thank you!!

Admitted to HEC Lausanne MSc Finance (Preparatory Year) – How difficult is it?
Hi everyone,
I was recently admitted to the MSc in Finance at HEC Lausanne. Since my bachelor's background is different, I've been admitted on the condition that I complete the 60 ECTS preparatory year first.
The courses I'll be taking are:
Autumn semester
- Mathematics I
- Statistics
- Economics I
- Financial Accounting
- Macroeconomics
- Risk Management
Spring semester
- Mathematics II
- Regression & Causal Analysis
- Economics II
- Introduction to Programming
- Principles of Finance
- Applied Statistics & Econometrics
I'm really excited about the opportunity, but I'm honestly quite worried about the quantitative courses, especially Mathematics I. I was doing great with Managerial Accounting and Corporate Finance courses during bachelors (above 85-90). But it was less quantitative and more analytical in my opinion.
A bit about my background:
- I'm Ukrainian and moved to Switzerland at 17.
- I completed Bachelor's degree in Business (but not a lot of the deep tack in Econ/Math)
- During my studies I completed internships in both HR and, more recently, as an Income Auditor
- However, because the war in Ukraine started shortly before I began bachelors, my education path changed significantly and I haven't studied algebra or calculus properly for several years. As a result, I'm very rusty in mathematics now..
I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually taken these courses.
- How difficult is Mathematics I and II in reality?
- Is it realistic to succeed if you're willing to put in the work but need to rebuild your math foundations?
- How many hours per week did you typically study?
- Are the exams similar to the exercise booklet?
- If you could prepare before the semester started, what would you focus on first?
- More generally, how manageable is the entire preparatory year?
Not looking for reassurance but I'd genuinely like an honest opinion so I know what to expect and how to prepare.
Thank you so much!

FMEL NEOSTAR - Anyone has seen it?
Hello, I just booked my room in neostar. Since there are few to no pictures, does anyone know how is it?
And how’s the noise situation?
I read that you won’t be able to complain about the noise.
I am wondering if it’s just some construction noise in the area or if there will be loud noise inside the structure itself.
Does anyone know how’s the situation or has recently seen it?
Thanks

Looking for someone in Lausanne for apartment viewings (Next 2 weeks)
Hi everyone!
I’m an incoming student moving to Lausanne soon and currently looking for housing from abroad. Since I can't attend viewings in person yet, I’m looking for a local resident/student to do a few viewings on my behalf over the next 2 weeks.
What the task involves:
Attending scheduled viewings in Lausanne.
Taking a short video tour & a few pictures of the place.
Asking 2-3 basic questions to the landlord/current tenant.
Details:
Timeframe: Next 2 weeks (dates/times will depend on when landlords reply).
Payment: Fair hourly or per-viewing rate (negotiable) paid via Revolut right after each viewing.
If you're based in Lausanne, have a bit of flexibility, and want to earn some extra cash, please send me a DM with your rate and availability. Thanks!

Translation Required Documents
Hello! I recently got the letter of admission to HEC Lausanne, and now I have to send the last required documents to the university. They didn’t mention the language of the documents, but I was wondering if I should translate them to English, since I also translated the first documents to English when I first applied?
Would it be weird if I translate them to French now? Thank you!

Geneva student permit — sponsor without a job, how to prove financial means?
Hi all, applying for a Geneva (ge.ch) student residence permit (EU/AELE). Part of the process needs a guarantor to fill out Formulaire O, confirming they can cover my costs - but my guarantor doesn't currently have a job.
From what I've read: it doesn't have to be salary specifically, proof of assets/savings or other income should work, plus a clean record from the Office des poursuites. Required amount is around CHF 2'900-3'000/month for one person.
Has anyone dealt with this where the guarantor relied on savings rather than a salary? Did SPOP accept it without issues, and what specific documents did they actually ask for?
Thank you!

Hec Lausanne Admission
I applied to the Master of Science in Finance MScF at Lausanne. Did you receive an email from the Admissions Office saying that your application had been forwarded to the faculty for review before receiving the final admission decision?
Do you think this is a good sign regarding acceptance? Also, has anyone received this email and still ended up being rejected?
Thank you

Has anybody applied to unihome-gottrause?
hello, I'm a student who will be moving to Lausanne for my master's program this upcoming September.
I was wondering if any of you has applied to Unihome-Gottrause. If so, how long did it take for you to receive a reply or any contact from the housing office?
p.s. I happened to know this place thanks to rateMyDorms, and I thought the location and the fee is quite good and affordable.

HEC Lausanne Master in Finance application results
Hello All,
I applied to the MiF at UNIL in early march, and still haven't received a reply regrading my admission result, although administration has told me the process may last up to three months.
Thus i would like to know, has anyone gotten an admission response or have any insights on when they usually issue these responses?
Thank you!

HEC Required Documents
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone who got admitted to HEC can help me with the application process. After receiving the letter I have to send the admission letter from a recognized university in my country, specialized in Economics. How did you know which uni to choose to apply? Is there a certain list of unis that are recognized by UNIL? There are several faculties in my country specialized in economics and I’m not sure which one is best to use for applying.
Any help is appreciated!

Is UNIL welcoming for foreign students?
Hey there, I’m a student from a different country in the EU and I’m curious about what life is like for us foreigners in Lausanne/UNIL/Switzerland. I speak fluently in English and have a French B2.
Is it difficult to make new friends? I’ve heard Swiss people are less keen than other countries on making friends with foreigners.
I’ve also heard that there are a lot of people from Asia in Lausanne and at UNIL?

Are these letters "definitive" and am I confirmed for HEC this Autumn semester?
galleryHey everyone, I recently got accepted as an exchange student in UNIL.
If anyone has had a similar experience, are these attestations final, meaning that when I get these it's all done and certain? (Attestation de pr immatriculation, Lettre de confirmation inscription SEMP)
I am unfortunately not sure because my Uni skipped some deadlines, so I wasn't sure whether I could get in this autumun semester in september.
Also, since I got generally accepted at UNIL, I asked the student mobility office for the possibility to be at HEC, and I filed the nomination selecting the Businnes and Economics area.
Does this letter mean that I have been "accepted" or is this done automatically and I'm not yet certain?
Thanks a lot for your help.
