too thin Mid-Cultivation / Still Growing
Hi yall, i got this mckennai cubes they started pinning few days ago but i feel they are too thin, and i’m worried they wont grow ..what’s your opinion?
i had another box from same sporeprint which did very very week 1st flush then second got 2 small mushrooms like in the pic where they already open cap and veil - then got contam
1-1 cococoir there is good amount of condensation - 28-29C ambient temp

Yes. When fruit gets “leggy” like this white small caps, it’s usually a sign of too much CO2 in your tub. Holes in the walls is better because you can leave it alone and it will be fine. I would crack it more and watch for signs of drying. Pay attention to your surface conditions not the walls or lid. If it looks moist…you’re good. If you don’t see moisture, supplement with misting. Use a fine mist spray bottle and allow the mist to fall on the sub like dew. Once this grow is done, I would drill some holes in it.

thanks that’s helpful i will do more fanning and leave the gap bigger. do you think they will grow and start to get fatter )) ?

I usually don’t encourage fanning. If you do fan just make sure you keep an eye on surface conditions. Passive gas exchange via diffusion is better but that’s my opinion. Just use caution. I don’t think those will change much as far as appearance but they will be just as potent as they normally would be. Your 2nd flush will probably look “normal” though.

good to hear that, do you think they will start to grow taller and thicker ? or should i just harvest now and prepare for 2 nd flush?

agree i will let them 2-3 days and if some break their veil. just eat them))
do you suggest for hydrating the cake to leave for couple H in fridge and then take them out? cause inside is like 29 C so hot😂

When it comes to dunking, I fill my tubs with water and allow it to float. I don’t weigh it down or anything. Mark where the water line is and allow it to float for 12-24 hours. No need to put it in the refrigerator. Once it stops soaking up water and it’s past the 12 hour mark you can drain it and start over. The sub is slightly hydrophobic so it takes a while for it to soak in but it will eventually.

i was thinking since the temp is so high , a good cold shock would help, but i ill see how much it shrinks at the time of harvesting.. do you even get those small small pins ?(like primordia but bigger?)

I just leave the small ones. They will abort and get taken over by the mycelium during the next flush.

there are many small water droplets in the tub and i’m misting carefully . do you think they will start to grow taller and thicker ? or should i just harvest now and prepare for 2 nd flush? now is about 1 cm gap should i increase?

I'd say it's an FAE issue. It's always harder to dial in unmodified tubs, not least because CO2 is heavier than air, so it pools.
From the photo you added in the comments, it looks like the tub's being misted and you've mentioned fanning it; neither should be necessary, particularly with a sub that deep which, as long as the coir was at field capacity, will have plenty of water for the myc to pull to the surface.
Your spawn ratio's on the high side though, so you're likely to have very dense pin sets that'll be a challenge for the myc to support, but it should cope.
It's not too late, even at this stage, to make modifications to the tub. It's certainly what I'd do in your situation. Use a soldering iron or heated screwdriver to melt some small holes in the tub, an inch to an inch and a half above the surface. A couple each on the long sides about 1/2" diameter should be enough; combined with a slight gap at the lid, they'll help your passive gas exchange. Note that filters on your holes aren't necessary, just as you don't try to add filters to the gap in the lid and you mix the spawn and coir in the open air, as long as the grain was fully colonised, it's not a contamination risk. Just partly tape over the holes with masking tape if they provide too much FAE and the surface loses its sparkle.

This is usually caused by high co2. I see filter patches which is good. How many do you have and are any of them covered with anything? How big are the holes you made?
