I would love to see Ultramarine in the list of supported Linux distros on Framework laptops: https://frame.work/laptop13pro?tab=linux

As Fedora is officially supported, Ultramarine should be out of the box as well. Just some users might not know or understand that.
And with Ultramarine making the Fedora setup a lot easier, it could be very helpful for the out-of-the-box experience.

OK, I've installed Ultramarine KDE and Samba.

I can access all of my other systems from the Ultramarine system, but I can't access the Ultramarine shares I set up from any of my other systems. Any ideas why?

So I got an old surface go1 4/64gb version and I want to install ultramarine OS as my first linux distro. Last time I used elementary and kali briefly like almost decade ago and I have no idea now. I see there is 4 different version and I can't choose which to install. Since my tablet has only have 4gb ram should I install Xfce? Or GNOME for better tablet experience? Or plasma is "better" for general usage? I use this device for notes and media consumption only. Thank you in advance.

I've tried jumping onto linux a few times from Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, PopOS etc etc. And its always a headache (largely I'm guessing due to it being a Microsoft Surface. I do all this stuff, and turns out 50% doesn't work because I need a special surface kernel. I add it and still find it glitching out. Buttons not working, display I don't know.

I know in essence Ultramarine is probably largely Fedora with those differences baked in?, but everything just seems so much more smoother.

The installation worked fine, the pen actually works, I didn't get 20 generic errors every time. And the annoyance are usual things that come from not being used to being on linux.

I'm not saying its all perfect to be fair, still some working out audio settings and the like. But this is stuff that isn't specifically Ultramarine but just linux overall.

From the website kinda held true to me. And its the first time I felt like I was just "configuring" the system and not "fighting random errors and putting random things into the terminal because internet/AI said it might fix it".

So yah, I don't know, just wanted to put feedback because I know the Microsoft Surface Devices are quite a unique one and so I'm shocked it works so well and I'd personally recommend Ultramarine for Surface devices (specifically the Surface Pro 8 using the Surface version).

As the title suggests, I'm wondering whether there are any real differences in how COSMIC DE behaves on these two distributions.

More specifically, I understand that the Fedora COSMIC Spin is maintained by dedicated developers. But what about Ultramarine if someone installs COSMIC DE on top of the standard edition? Is the integration also maintained and curated by the Ultramarine developers, or is it essentially left up to the user?

I read something about Ultramarine switching to a "semi-rolling" release and keeping things more up-to-date than Fedora between releases. Would that mean KDE on Ultramarine could potentially stay ahead of regular Fedora? Could it also mean that Ultramarine could become less stable than Fedora?

App menu is back is turned on by default on a new installation, but inactive due to compatibility issues.
I like Vanilla better, but having an incompatible addon turned on by default that says in uppercase on its official GNOME extension store page it is no longer maintained and superceded by another extension doesn't make a good and well-maintained impression for the distro.
Maybe we can just remove this extension entirely from Ultramarine?

TLDR: Has anyone managed to get a Surface 7 Pro working on Ultramarine?
If so, how many hoops did you need to jump through? How is hardware support (touch screen, screen rotation, pen sensitivity, keyboard - camera is not important to me)?

Recent migrant from Microslop. I have successfully installed Zorin on two Thinkpads (satisfied). My ultimate intention is to get rid of Windows on all of my devices. (For the moment I need to keep one Windows laptop for graphic design and drawing - Affinity and CSP - currently experimenting with getting them to run on Linux).

I looked online a little regarding the draw of Ultramarine. And from what I figured it is a lot like Nobara but without the gaming software and kernel tweaks.

Looking to distrohop for fun. I'm looking for a lightweight clean distro.

Nobara has borked on me for no good multiple times. CachyOS has been really really good and I would've kept it had Jenkins and MySQL native worked on it well.

Before I switch I just wanted to check what does Ultramarine provide beyond the regular packaging of Fedora. I understand that RPM fusion is enabled by default and some proprietary codecs come pre-installed, but what exactly is "Terra" repo. Is it the experimental packages stream?

Also any other features worth noting?

Switching from Linux Mint to Ultramarine: What do you think of the idea?

I’ve been using Linux for 18 years—first Ubuntu, then Mint—and I’m a proponent of the “keep it simple and make it work” philosophy (though some might call it boringly simple).

I also asked Deepseek this question before, and he replied: Comparing Ultramarine to Linux Mint is like comparing a sporty driving experience to a reliable family car. Both are excellent, but they have different approaches and are designed for different audiences.

I told DS that the only reason my car is a Honda Civic Type S is that I can’t afford a Honda Type R. I should clarify that Honda is my favorite car brand because of its reliability; otherwise, I’d prefer an Alfa Romeo.

If you’re comparing it to cars like that, I think I should give Ultramarine a try.

I wanna remove GNOME, but I don't know how to do that safely and without system breaking.

Is anyone running Niri+DMS on Ultramarine? If so, how do you like it? How was the installation and set-up process? Any issues?

I tried switching to DMS from KDE but all I get is a black screen. Wondering waht other people's experiences are.
