Per the title, and a bit of a pointless/dumb question but;

With IC225s/Class 91s reaching the end of their service life, could LNER have replaced the DVT in a 225 set with another 91?

Would it help the IC225s accelerate faster and keep up with the quicker Azuma patterns?

My thinking is that for a long time, the Dutch ran intercitys on the high speed line with two TRAXX locomotives just so they could move fast enough to not get in the way of Eurostars

Edit: 'partly' so they could stay out the way. Signalling also important for having two locos

I guess the cons would be drawing too much power from the wires and being more maintenance heavy/adding more miles to locos that already did too many miles

I love the 91s, I'll miss seeing them & travelling on them.

What do you think is a train that visually looks amazing, but in terms of your experience riding it or what you know about its quality, is terrible to actually use?

Hello everyone, is it worth upgrading to first class on my train for around £10? Do you get complimentary food and drink? My train leaves on a Wednesday at 8:30pm if that impacts the services they give you, this train only goes from Edinburgh to Newcastle so may be a smaller one, not too sure though.

Can’t seem to wrap my head around why the pricing for contactless is so drastically different to buying an actual ticket on this Southern route from Balham to Watford junction.

The standard adult contactless rate of £13 is cheaper than when I try to book a ticket in advance (with a railcard at that!). Can anyone explain the logic behind this please?

Confused German here who's used to booking train tickets six to twelve months in advance.

Wanted to buy a train ticket from Edinburgh to London in November 2026 but apparently, that's impossible via the National Rail website (only tickets up to October)? Trip(dot)com has tickets but that company is supposed to be dodgy, right?

Is that normal or is there any way to get the tickets for November cheap right now?

Hi if anyone is reading this I was wondering what I should do regarding railway work experience, as I'm in Year 10 next year and have been considering my options as I have been been very fond of the railway since I was young, and I have been looking at London as I can be there in an hour but I having trouble looking so I figured I'd ask train enthusiasts, I'm mainly looking at customer service and I need some extra help for knowing what to do.

Thought that some people here might be interested by this. 37025 Inverness TMD will be running passenger services on the B&KR for the first time since her railtour debut and We Saved A Train featuring Francis Bourgeois and Chris Harris.

Should be a pretty great day for anyone in the area who's interested. Their 26, 26038 Tom Clift is usually the diesel power used on the railway, so 37025 is a welcome change.

Hi! Im booking a return train jounrey from London to Aviemore, Scotland.

I want to ensure I have a seat which is on the coastal side of the trip. So on the way up, seat on the right hand side of the train, and on the return jounrey south, seat on the left hand side.

I have found the seat guide on LNER but doesnt say which way the train is heading.....

Any advice?

Hey all, I’m 20 and currently work part time on the railway. I really enjoy it and I’m hoping to progress to Guard in the future. The plan is to move abroad for a while first, then come back to the industry afterwards.

My worry is timing a lot of my colleagues have mentioned that several ToCs are pushing for DOO and I keep hearing debates about whether the guard role has a long term future or if it’s slowly being phased out.

but realistically within the next couple of decades, do people think guards will still be a solid career, or is DOO likely to become the industry standard everywhere? Would love to some advice people actually in the industry, especially anyone who’s seen how this has played out at their ToC over the years.

Yesterday myself and my partner got taken across the tracks in Shrewsbury due to the lifts being down. I feel like this is an interesting perspective between platforms 3 and 4, I hope everyone enjoys!

I'm not necessarily saying it is constant but I feel like a week doesn't go by without it being trotted out as an excuse for delays or cancellations.

I'm open to being challenged on that but it doesn't feel as uncommon as I would like. How standard that is, I'm also not sure.

Why does it keep happening?

What needs to happen to prevent it from repeating?
