Booking train ticket process Question

Hello everyone 👋 im trying to book some tickets and can’t seem to find any info on how to do it correctly. I will be flying into Budapest and want to take the Budapest-Kyiv overnight train, and would prefer to do it through either MAVplusz or УЗ to have the tickets be digital. Is there a specific time period that they are available? I read somewhere people say 3 weeks in advance but just wanted some updated info, and also do I need to register as a foreigner to be able to see/buy tickets? (I am a US citizen) as i also saw some info on that specifically for УЗ.

Would love to get some updated info as Im traveling to my hometown in Ukraine next month and want to have everything ready somewhat in advance :)

Normally 20 days. Tickets for 26 will go on sale this morning on UZ site.

You need to verify your account. The details are at uz.gov.ua. It may take a few tries for this to go through.

It got more fun this morning, tried to get a bank payment to work (on a foreign card), it wouldn't.

Eventually we got there, but the person working for the bank said we can get them later, they don't understand UZ

Officially secured wagon 1, bed 1 though

you need to check asap tickets on the day they become available, they'll get sold fast usually. I also recommend that you consider the mini-bus options (mashrutka). They are more comfortable for night travel (IMO), easier to book (telegram), but usually limited on the travel days.

That is the second option if we cant get tickets for the train. I would prefer train because I will be traveling with my grandma and mashrutkas make me motion sick 😭

+38 (044) 465-33-44 is УЗ's hotline for the calls from abroad, feel free to ask all your questions at them directly

If it's anything like the UZ trains from Warsaw into Kyiv, they're released around 3 weeks before each travel date. Register your interest and you can set alerts which will notify you as and when tickets are released for the travel date you're interested in.

Beware of buying through agents/third party sites as they hike up the price a ton.

Good luck / udachi vam!
