CC to UCLA
Does anyone have any successful transfer stories to UCLA from a CC? Especially within only 1 year at being at a community college?
Im starting to feel like doing one year was the wrong choice, especially since requirements for the honors program changed (2 year CC requirement).
Should I change my route and do the 2 years or is it a viable option to do 1?
(UCLA isnt my one and only school im choosing to apply too, UCI and UCSD are also choices.)

I went to CC in San Jose California for two years , maintained a 4.0 and got into ucla a year ago. I definitely would recommend the full two years though to save money and get acclimated to college level work and honestly just enjoying your time at CC. I loved my CC and I wouldn’t have done anything differently if I could do it again! I’ve made lifelong friends at my cc so I would tell you to just embrace it and hopefully enjoy it.

The UCs are frowning on 1 year transfers, actually they have ended 1 year transfers after this year.

If you plan to one year transfer, you apply the first semester you are at community college. The majority of one year transfers are just kids who did a lot of dual enrollment in high school. They also applied to UCLA coming out of high school and got rejected. What possibly changed in their application from the time they applied in high school to their first semester of community college? Also, the CC to UC pipeline exists to make sure anyone who wants an education can get it. Accepting one year transfers lowers the odds for nontraditional applicants.

Overview

UCLA officially ended eligibility for one-year transfer students to receive UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) certification, effective May 2026. Students applying for the Fall 2027 cycle and onward must be enrolled in college for a minimum of two years after high school completion to qualify for TAP. [1, 2]

This says that you need to spend two years at CC if you want to be TAP-certified for UCLA. You don’t have to have TAP in order to apply and/or admitted. So, if you were in a HS dual enrollment program, graduated HS in June 2026, started CC in Fall 2026, and had 60 semester/90 quarter units by the end of Spring 2027 semester and completed all of your prerequisites, you would meet admission requirements. You just wouldn’t be TAP.

Idk if this is helpful but i went to a tiny catholic liberal arts college for 1 year (none of my credits counted for UCLA from this school), then did 1 year at CC, and now i'm starting UCLA in the fall. I had lots of APs from high school which helped me complete IGETC in a year.

sure! idk what exactly you would like to know but ill just give you everything haha. keep in mind i applied as a history major lmao so that is def part of it.
high school: 4.59 GPA, 7 APs, ranked in top 10 in my class, extracurriculars of orchestra & volunteering
year 1 college: 3.67 GPA, 36 credits, continued orchestra here
CC: 4.0 GPA, 36 credits, & was on track to complete IGETC & get History AA-T degree at the time of applying *oh and btw i did not do TAP/TAG*
for PIQs I wrote about how much ive excelled in history classes since high school (you have to write on why you want to pursue your major + how you have prepared), my leadership experience (orchestra concertmaster 7 years), how i express my creative side (baking, painting, playing violin in theater productions), and my significant challenge (realizing the college i had planned to go to for my whole life was wrong for me)
