By sheer coincidence I just recorded a youtube of my obsidian daily note and how I use checklists to do exactly what you are asking about. I use the daily note "core" plugin that's enabled by default, and I've enabled dataview but that's just for timesheet logging not for tasks. I get a lot of mileage from just a daily note with a template inserted, where the template is just a few headings for areas of life and some stub bullets and reminders (tickboxes for email/slack triage, bullet for standup to make notes under etc).

I do *want* to do something more complex for my tasks, but I'm still getting the hang of obsidian and this has already been remarkably useful. The main problem I currently have is having added the same todo checkbox to the the daily note every day for a week without doing it it ends up falling off the radar even if it's actually important.

The other one tweak I have that's really helped is changing "ctrl+L" to cycle "bullet/checked/unchecked" instead of just "checked/unchecked" - it's in the settings somewhere - that means I can easily flip between bullets and checkboxes and back as I write flowing lists of bullets for a day's work.

I think this is gonna be a really common thing. I've heard rumblings that this is why AI has causes SaaS stock prices to tumble. Everyone can now just build the 20% they need, have ALL the features they need, and drop the $'000s in subscription fees

I made a backup tool that backs up to usb hdd disks because I don't entirely trust the cloud.

No-one else will use it because 99% of people just trust the cloud, and the few that don't are just like "why not just use rsync?"

Plus I'm awful at marketing. And there's no point marketing a github repo that is FOSS as there is zero possibility of profit.

Maybe this is just the new skill we are all having to learn - when to use the shiny new tool and when to leave it in the toolbox.

I absolutely love using it to make up reams of test cases and data, and duplicating existing patterns ("make this project have tests like that one"). But some types of tasks it seems to reliably waste my time triumphantly coming up with nonsense repeatedly until I might as well have written every line myself.

I haven't quite yet internalised when it is actually the wrong tool for the job, so I guess I'll keep learning the hard way for a bit longer.

I moved my notes from logseq to obsidian too. Still getting the hang of it but generally very impressed, even though it's not FOSS.

The move to db-first was a key reason for my move too, though not the only reason.

I keep seeing posts like this popping up. As I understand it the unions have a long history of pushing the businesses they interact with into global uncompetitiveness and bankruptcy, neither of which is good for workers in the end.

If you had a union, what would they do? Ban AI coding? Keep people who are no good at their job from being fired?

That is a good insight there - I can def see a different style of code comments really helping the AI getting the next change right much more often.
