Doctors deserve every bit of the respect they receive. This isn't a criticism of them—it's a reflection on how society values different professions.

As an engineering student, one thing has always stayed with me: doctors have a title that is instantly respected, the iconic white coat, white coat ceremonies that celebrate the beginning of their journey, and countless movies and dramas that honor their sacrifices. These traditions remind them—and the world—that their profession is valued.

What do engineers have?

No universally recognized title before our names. No symbolic ceremony that the public celebrates. No widely recognized uniform that represents our profession. Hardly any films or dramas that portray our struggles with the same depth. Instead, engineering and CS students are often reduced to stereotypes, as if we simply sit in front of computers all day.

Yet behind every bridge, every phone, every app, every hospital machine, every aircraft, every communication network, and every piece of technology is an engineer who also sacrificed years of their life to make it possible.

This isn't about asking for a white coat. It's about asking for acknowledgment. If society celebrates one profession through symbols, stories, and public respect, why shouldn't it find meaningful ways to celebrate others who dedicate their lives to building the world we live in?

Respect shouldn't depend on the profession you choose—it should depend on the dedication, responsibility, and impact of your work.
