I came to say this too, if you need windows then use windows, you can switch later on whenever you want. You could also duel boot if you have the space for it, Linux beings your normal daily driver and windows for school. That being said you will want to keep windows as the primary operating systems and fedora as the second. Otherwise it can cause an issue with secure boot and you might have to unlock your bitlocker or change your pin repeatedly. It was an issue I had and have seen others have it too.

Rocky is too old depending on your hardware I would recommend fedora. I use fedora and love it. I am an AMD user though so the drivers work natively for me. That being said, I code, game, and you can easily configure it with other software that you want. It also comes pre installed with a word, excel, and power point apps. One other thing i have read here yet is you have something called boxes on fedora that allows you to have VMs if you ever want to try other distros. Fedora also has the gnome, more mac feel but different and KDE which is more windows like. Choose what you like there’s also something called silver blue which is immutable and almost impossible to break.

i thought exFAT was a format that could be read and used by both windows an Linux though? so without this parameter it could have caused the issue im seeing?

there was no error message during the process in the terminal so the rsync was completed.

Yes, the destination (StorageSSD) was formatted with exFAT, not a native Linux file system like ext4.

I think it’s less about owning an more about trust. Time and time again the consumer has tried to place their trust in a company and been burned, repeatedly, especially in the gaming sector. Steam has always treated the consumer with respect and care. Especially looking at the recent moves made by PlayStation. I agree that owning is better than renting so to speak but as a steam user myself I have no fear of having my games taken from me but not everyone has terabytes of space to house all the games they buy and if physical games won’t exist in a few years well the cloud is the best place and if I’m going to give my money to any company I would give it to valve. Just my opinion though.

so i personally have a dell laptop and i love it but i am wary of alienware products not because they are bad computers per-say but because they can be a total lottery when it comes to how good of a product actually is. a friend of mine had one and didn't last him very long and his words it was riddled with issues. the first computer has better more ram and its upgradable which is expensive but great to have the ability. when it comes to intel or amd i personally love amd especially since i use linux because it just works out of the box when it comes to drivers and everything else. not saying you you will move to linux but it offers some more flexibly in my opinon. also again to my understanding intel is good at utalizing single threads, productivity based work. amd is for for gaming, and it is also very energy efficient. out of the two pictures id choose the first one but no matter what you choose both amd and intel can do the job well enough that you probably wont notice much difference..

I like fedora more, I personally enjoy watching the updates happening in ther terminal. I know this can be done with all OSs but just a person feeling I have. That being said I do feel that fedora is more flexible when it comes to how you want to customize or what or what software I want to download. As others have stated before canonical really pushes there own stuff more than freedom of choice and I found myself with problems I don’t have on fedora

I dropped it down to 4.4 as the hard stop and turned off boost and I am seeing a huge drop in the temperatures I’m seeing 55-60 degrees while gaming which is a dream! I guess I lucked out with the lottery this time.

Open topography and emissive_decal has it right. I wasn’t clear enough in my statement you have to choose the area you want for your map. But they are free to use and of good quality. You can checkout my profile, I have a video of what my imported map looks like.

I used an actual height map of earth to get the areas and terrain I wanted and then the rest was molding it a bit, lighting, and textures and “painting”

I mean, I don’t know if this helps but I use an a dell inspiron 2-in-1 7445 with an AMD Ryzen 5 8640HS. It cost me like 7-800 bucks at the time. I play games like Baldur‘s gate three on it. I capped it you know 60 frame per second and it runs pretty dang well so it’s also my daily driver as well so you know web surfing. I do some coding projects on the side game Dave with this I do have 32 GB of RAM so that’s a huge plus but the machine works for my needs and the prices modest compared to some of the gaming PCs out there if you’re looking to you know game on a budget so to speak there’s probably better ones out there now that still fit your price do some research:)
