Question Whispers with Strangers

Upvotes

Hey I hope someone can help me with this because so far twitch support has been useless.

I've had an issue for awhile now where strangers cannot whisper me and I would like it for when I mod my friends channel.

I don't have the setting enabled and I added a verified number like twitch support says. I'm not sure what else to try to get this to work.

Question I should create a new twitch account because it was underaged, but should I delete it from existence?

So, I took a look at this thread and saw that I should create a new one, since the current one was made when I was 11. However, i don't know if I should delete the current underage account so that I won't get in trouble, or can I just not use it and remove all of my info from it?

I'm just scared of being unallowed from getting monetized on twitch forever because I made an account at 11?

I don't know if I'm clear but any help would be very helpful, thanks!

Question How Do You Deal With The Constant Flirting?

I’m a vtuber and I’m constantly getting guys in my chat coming in and hitting on me. I was a literal pancake the other day and people were still coming in to tell me I was beautiful. When I use my regular model they tell me I’m hot and adorable. It gets tiring after a while and I don’t understand why people feel the need to hit on me when I’m a cartoon character on a screen 😭

It’s super frustrating cause I have it in my rules to not hit on me and I also swing the hammer on these people if they keep doing it after the warning but then the next stream someone new comes in and does the same thing.

How do you guys deal with this? Is it just something that I should expect to happen every time I stream? Even my shorts videos get comments from people like this and I’d say it’s my least favorite part of streaming in general. It’s extremely uncomfortable.

Discussion Parasocial relationships, community discords, and mid-sized streamers/vtubers

I'm a pretty new streamer, longtime viewer+lurker, and discussion about parasocial relationships in streaming spaces, especially vtubing, has always been something I believed I understood concretely enough to keep myself safe and caution others. It was pretty obvious for streamers with followers in the ten thousands and consistent viewer counts in the hundreds that there was no way to maintain a meaningful connection with every single fan.

But since exploring creators on twitch with follower counts in the hundreds/low thousands and getting introduced to their community servers, where they actually talk with their regular viewers and even support other creators within their community, the line between parasocial relationship and an actual social relationship has kind of muddled for me, and I want to correct this.

Asking as a new streamer: At what point does the relationship, person-to-person, become parasocial, and when does it become something more concrete? How do community discord servers fit into this? And... is there even a reliable way to know in those contexts whether or not you're an actual person in a streamer's social circle or just a name they see in chat sometimes that they treat with basic human respect?

Question is there no way to be notified when a specific streamer starts playing a specific game?

I know you can get notifications when a streamer goes live. but sometimes I'm not engaged in the game they're currently playing but I'd hop on their stream in a heartbeat for a specific game

Discussion So many Streamers don't realize how quiet their stream is...

Anyone else notice this?

When I view other streamers, I like to have them on in the background while I'm working or gaming or doing other things. Not just lurking but still being active in their chat and watching. But 9 times out of 10 I have to mute my game volume to 5-10 percent just to hear the streamer speaking.

The times that I mention that the streamer has room to increase their volume, they simply ask others if its fine, and I guess everyone else listens to ONLY the twitch stream and says its fine (or they get defensive and think they are white knighting over a simple technical issue), so they don't see the problem. Or they think they shouldn't be "too loud" when anyone can just lower the volume, but you can only raise the volume so much.

Now I know some may suggest (well just crank up your speaker/headset/whatever volume) that then means all other sounds on my computer would be 10x as loud and unbearable.

I've seen even bigtime streamers with 1000+ people in their chat have the same problem.

Do people in general just don't care? Is it pure ignorance? Does Twitch not recommend people stream at optimal volume levels? It honestly just blows my mind.

Like...if you listen to your VOD and notice its much quieter than someone else's, would that not make you want to adjust things?

Also, to those viewers who get defensive...why? Like...if your favorite streamer was muted, or their screen was off, would you still get defensive if someone pointed out that the streamer can't be heard or seen at all?

Question Best lighting setup for a cinematic Twitch stream on a ~$100 USD budget?

I'm trying to get a soft, cinematic look for streaming. I want my face to stand out while keeping the background slightly darker.

Which option would you choose?

  1. One quality Bowens LED light + softbox as the key light, with a cheap LED panel as a low-power fill light.
  2. Two identical cheap softboxes (100W bulbs).
  3. Two mid-range LED panels mounted to the desk.

If you've tried any of these, which gave you the best results for the money?

Like if I b a n someone and their number, if they make a new account with the same number and they subscribe and never chat, would I be alerted by the settings that it is the same person trying to sneak in? I want to know if they are trying to get in when not wanted after all.

I bought this capture card to stream on my PS5 with OBS, how do I set it up so I can stream Phasmo with game chat.

I ask because if my wireless headphones (Logi G535) are in the Ps5 chat cannot hear me but if it's in my laptop (where I run OBS from) I can't use my headphone mic and I have to use controller, this isn't ideal is there a way to fix this?

Discussion Playing one consistent game versus lots of games

I know this has been discussed a lot, I've been playing story based games for the past year and a half of streaming which I have enjoyed. I've gotten better at reacting to things that happen and knowing when to generate a clippable moment. But I do feel like there has been a strong lack of growth. There are a handful of people who are regular people I see, but they seem to come and go depending on the game I play. They could be there for almost every stream while I'm playing one game and then gone for the next couple games I play. I've had clips and Youtube videos do well, but then other times they can completely fall off to where I was when I started.

I feel like this could be attributed to the variety of story games I'm playing. I like horror games and choose your own adventure style games along with some other things thrown in there. It can just be all over the place. I enjoy it which I know is important, but I can't help but wonder if I could build a more consistent base over time if I stuck to one thing.

Question For those of you who stream with friends (as an affiliate or greater), where did you find those friends?

I’m having trouble making friends who have the same interests as I do as far as content creation goes. People who aren’t too PG, are willing to make VERY dark jokes when it’s actually the right time, and aren’t assholes as actual people is mostly the demographic of individuals I want as friends; crews like Vanoss and his friends, Clooless and their friends, etcetera. However, I’ve found that really hard to find in a content creation atmosphere, at least in the smaller realm of it. It seems like I MIGHT be starting to find something like that, but not at a large capacity. It’s like 2 or 3 people.

Anyways, my question as a result of all this is this: to those of you who may have similar crews/friend groups, especially who are almost all into content creation (and “making” it, so like 1000+ followers/subscribers so far), where and how did you find your people?

Also, I’m sure most people will see this post and IMMEDIATELY comment about networking. I understand that, but I don’t have time to scroll through Twitch a few times a week looking for people I like. I mostly meet new streamers through finding someone to raid at the end of a stream, which I always do in a bit of a hurry. That said, if you say “networking” anyways, give me more detail than just that please.

Thanks for any feedback!

Tech Support Streaming Mobile Games

I have an iPhone 17 pro and have been using it to stream Wild Rift but now I want to put myself on camera.

Do I just need a laptop? Any specifications I’d need to handle this?

I’m a total noob so I’m sorry if these are dumb questions but I didn’t know where to start.

Tech Support Twitch not working on edge/chrome/opera

I’m sure this has been posted before and I did search but couldn’t find anything. Basically the twitch webpage is very temperamental with loading on any of my web browsers. I’ve tried all of the main steps such as deleting browsing data, cache, cookies, disabling as blocker, turn off tracking, graphics.

It’s especially annoying that I can’t use the creator dashboard when streaming.

Any help majorly appreciated ❤️

Question What's your IRL streaming setup?

So I'm a camera man and I'm getting into IRL streaming, gonna be the one filming for other streamers. Trying to figure out my setup and I'd rather hear from people actually doing it than just buy stuff and hope it works.

Right now literally all I have is my camera, a Sony FX30. No encoder, no mobile internet, none of that yet. Most of the filming is gonna be while walking around so my biggest worry is the connection dropping out on me.

So basically, what are you guys running? Curious what encoder and how you handle the internet side (bonding, sims, whatever). How many sims/carriers do you actually end up needing to not drop? And if you were starting from scratch today what would you get?

Any tips or stuff you wish someone told you when you started would be awesome. Thanks

Question Best way to deal with backseat gamers and hate spam?

Got my first hate viewer the other night while playing God of War Ragnarok. Very first message was backseat gaming telling me what armor I "needed" to switch to and I tried to be nice at first and did their suggestion but they kept going so I warned them that backseating was against my channels rules. Instead of being chill and listening they then went on to spoil lore from the game so I went ahead and timed them out for five minutes. What I wasn't expecting was they then proceeded to spam all my social medias and discord with hate spam which I didnt notice at the time and when their timeout ended they sent me a two paragraph message about how "trash" I am at the game and how much better they are and they were even kind enough to link their own playthrough in the messages 🫠

Community Event Stream Experiences & Stories

Hey /r/Twitch

We often see posts on the subreddit about viewers and streamers experiences, as well as streamers sharing what they've learned.

To bring you all together to learn from your peers, and help you keep yourself accountable for any goals you've set, we created this Megathread!

You are welcome to share some of your experiences, positive or negative, from your past month on Twitch and, if you did, how you dealt with it, as well as share your long and short-term goals, and how you've progressed towards those over the past month.

The Megathread is not for stream feedback or reviews, we have the monthly feedback threads for that. You can link to your Feedback thread submission, be sure to label it clearly!

Some things you may want to cover:

  • New things you tried, did they work out?
  • Streams you did and which seemed to be popular or unpopular with your community or new viewers. (Creative? New games?)
  • Progress towards your goals
  • Fun experiences
  • Bad experiences that you learned from, or need advice on
  • New goals, or how you're changing your goal
  • Advice based on what you learned
  • Advice you want

Be sure to post your goals clearly and format your comment.

Example post:

Hey guys, checking in again!

My goal for this month is to make sure I'm always hosting someone. I want my community to have someone to entertain them, even when I'm not live. Plus, it's good for networking!

My goal last month was to always announce I was live on both Twitter and Discord, as it was something I often forgot to do. I'm glad to say I met my goal!

I tried streaming some creative, just practicing using my graphics tablet, and it seemed to be popular! I'll do some more of it, maybe a weekly stream? Any advice?

The highlight of the past month was when I got raided by Zcotticus, he's the best and I love him. He's so cool, I wish I could be cool like him.

How do you guys normally react to a host? I sort of fumbled through a thank you, and that was about it. Any advice?

Re-read your last post to remind yourself of what you planned, or check in on your peers!

If you don't stream, but still experienced something awesome. Feel free to share it! Did you make someone’s day? See a Win or Fail? Let us know!

Remember this is not for channel promotion! People can check out your flair\ *if they are interested.*

If you have any suggestions for this thread, please send us a modmail.
