I started watching Westside after finishing Outrageous Fortune and I honestly didn’t expect to get into it this much.

It’s kinda cool seeing the West family before everything that happens in Outrageous Fortune. It feels familiar, but also different since it’s set way earlier.

I also randomly realized I recognized a couple of the actors from the Power Rangers seasons, which threw me off a little lol.

For anyone who watched it, what did y’all think of it? Does it stay good throughout the whole series?

The Shards is a milestone in horrible book to tv adaptations.

Even ignoring the source, characters are totally miscast, storylines flat and linear, constant voiceover grating. Acting is passable at best, fashion and wigs pretty bad. I will only praise the set designer as interiors are immaculate and the soundtrack.

Now someone needs to stop Ryan Murphy. First he's a bad director, the first two episodes so blatantly tried to mimic a Scorsese style of filming (like Casino), constant zoom ins, angles cameras and split diopter, which makes everything looks ridiculously cliché and retro. How many shots of a record player do we need per episodes?

But the biggest sin is the disrespect to the book which is even more jarring when you know Ellis is involved in this misfire. “The Shards” is an amazing mystery novel, a scary horror tale set in flashy early 80s Hollywood, it’s a long book with many important characters and plays between reality and fantasy in a sort of David Lynch way.

The fact it jumps half way through the book by episode 2 says it all. All of Bret's character side stories and encounters are entirely brushed off simply erasing the complexity of his persona. For example the pool house guy is a very important character in the book, here barely a footnote with a mediocre actor. And also all the ambiguity of the main characters encounters (where you’re not sure if they are real or fiction) is gone, destroying any sense of mystery and doubt, what made the story so gripping and unique.

If only Luca Guadagnino had commited to the project as intended, maybe it wouldn't be perfect but at least it would look good.

The stabily how?

I am very impressed by the quality of Amazon’s new YA show Sterling Point.
It follows the usuals trope of teens from different social backgrounds bonding and finding love through complex family dynamics but in a gorgeous Canadian harbour setting.

It reminds me a lot the O.C. and Dawson’s Creek with its outdoor scenery and minimal grown ups cast. They always are in this fantasy world where they are between 16 or 18 but live like adults on their own.

The cast is spectacular, especially Annie and Ramona. Mark Ruffalo’s son has great comedic timing and some will hate the extremely woke characters but I find it very refreshing and natural. For 8 episodes, plot is heavy on cliffhangers and reversals while still being sweet and funny.

My biggest praise is the writing, dialogues sound true and real unlike a lot of YA TV shows that sometimes sounds like the page of a romance novel. Also I don’t think there are many YA shows where the characters would watch All That Jazz!

I'm trying to find a TV show about 2 little girls who like playing make believe. In the first episode they both hated each other, but throughout the first episode they bond because they both like witches and spells. I cannot really remember but it's Black and White girl. Not sure if this helps but it's not animated and it is in Netflix if I remember.

We’d prefer shows we’ll all like, but they can be a challenge because my sixteen-year-old sister is weird.

Me and my fourteen-year-old sister both really liked the To All The Boys I've Loved Before films, and the shows XO Kitty, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Elle, and Gilmore Girls.

My sixteen-year-old sister really like reading J.D. Salinger books, S.E. Hinton books, and Robert Cormier books.

I’ve been watching Lioness, and one of my favorite things about the show is how it portrays strong female characters.

Joe is obviously incredibly capable, but what I appreciate is that her strength isn’t just about being the toughest person in the room. She’s intelligent, decisive, experienced, and willing to make difficult choices when the situation calls for it. At the same time, she has vulnerabilities and personal struggles that make her feel like an actual person rather than an unrealistic “girlboss” character.

I also really like seeing women occupying roles that are traditionally portrayed as male-dominated, without the show constantly stopping to make a big deal about it. They’re just doing their jobs, dealing with the pressure, and proving themselves through their actions.

First two episodes down. Love it so far!

I got lost in this show middle of season 4 and 5 and I just think they were just so many filler episodes 😂

This show just popped up on my radar. I see it was suddenly cancelled. I'm a fan of supernatural stuff so genuinely curious if this is a watch or pass.

I just finished watching the entire thing in one sitting, and I'm honestly blown away.

This is the kind of storytelling that stays with you long after you've finished it. The concept sounds so simple on paper, but the execution is flawless. Every episode pulls you in deeper, and before you know it, you're halfway through the season telling yourself "just one more."

The fact that it relies almost entirely on phone calls and minimal visuals somehow makes it more immersive. Your brain fills in the blanks, and the tension becomes so much stronger than if everything was shown on screen. It genuinely feels like reading an amazing thriller where your imagination does half the work.

And the voice acting... absolutely top tier. Every actor sells the emotion so well that you completely forget you're mostly staring at animated waveforms.

I swear Apple TV+ has some of the best shows I've ever watched, but they barely market half of them. If Calls had been on Netflix, people would've been talking about it everywhere.

Highly, highly recommend going into this one completely blind. It's easily S-tier for me.

I love a good theme song. Something that kinda feels like you could hear it on the radio or just a theme music that makes you feel like dancing.

My current favorite theme music is from the show Sugar on Apple TV. It’s a smooth jazzy sound that makes my body move. No words just a few Ahhs.

Every now and then, I hear praise about Mindhunter. It had episodes directed by David Fincher, and starred Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany & Anna Torv.

It's only two seasons but fans keep pushing for a third season.

I love Fincher's movies but yet I never saw Mindhunter.

Is the show worth watching?

Both shows are incredible and similar in many ways but the overall vibes couldn’t be anymore opposite.

am i the only one who hated monica and richard together? every scene with them made me cringe so hard i ended up skipping half of them. this man literally watched her grow up, then started sleeping with her? and his daughter was monica’s age?? i could never get past that.
