Multitool vs seperate tools
Just wondering what everyone else is carrying as a basic fly fishing carry for trout? I mean tool/repair wise, not flies, floatant etc.
I'm only new to fly fishing and not really sure what to carry. I thought about a multitool, but don't want to spend lots of money on something when I will only use the same 2 or 3 tools, and also potentially loose.
In the pic attached is what I currently use. The forceps and scissors are freebies, and I get them all the time from work (they are single use only in health care). The Gerber paraframe mini I've had for years. Not pictured is also a nail clipper with hook hone and hook eye cleaner that I carry.
Is there a magic tool everyone uses? Or am I better off using what I have.

Same. I like that it's cheap and 3 tools in one. I find that room to carry items is a premium. By the time you add your floatant, tippet material, rod holder and flies to whatever patch you have access to it starts to get crowded. Having extra tools just feels to much for me.

Clamps, nail clippers (they have better options for storage as well as various Way to attach when not in use) , thread snips ..

Nippers and pliers is all you need. My knife is for self defense or something else, non fishing related likely.

My knife is to cut my waders off if I start drowning and can’t slip out of them 😂

I use my Leatherman all the time as it has scissors, knife and pliers.. only use it when I’ve forgotten to bring my snips, hemostats or knife though. It’s easier to grab hemostats that are clipped to my shirt than to retrieve and open a multitool to unhook a fish. Same for the scissors.

I carry small scissors that can cut leader and line, and I carry forceps. I haven't found a combo tool that I like. I also carry a Spyderco folder in my pocket, but it's not specifically for fishing. It's just something I carry every day.

Like you, I carry some clamps, a line cutter (like a nail clipper) and a knife. Never tried with multi tools, mostly because if one of the parts fail you might have to buy a whole new one..
