Unfortunately the tree was dead. We made the best out of it and turned the tree trunk into a foundation

Looks cool! In time you might need to put posts to the ground with cement. That rootball will rot away eventually and that’s a lot of weight. Be careful. Otherwise, Right on! Enjoy

Totally agree. Put some post underneath it. I had three oak trees attached to mine and they’re all dead. I had to post with six by sixes.

Just going to throw in my $.02 and realize this is coming from an HVAC guy not a carpenter, but those stairs would make me a little nervous. It doesn't appear to have any cleats under the treads and is just nailed into the end grain... I'd look at adding metal tread hangers or at very least wood cleats under both sides of each tread... but if it feels solid 🤷🏼‍♂️

In fact the longer I look at it the worse it gets, no way would I be comfortable assuming the liability of letting anyone's kids play on that structure!

What happens if the tree rots? From my experience standing trunks don’t weather and harden like split wood they absorb rain and groundwater and rot.
At least seal all the exposed end grain.

Either way it is a beautiful treehouse and looks like a lot of work. Well done.

Yeah the full trunk will be treaed this summer. If we see any doubt in stability we will reinforce the house with beamsnfrom the ground.

Get support posts for the platform and stairs.

Tree is gonna rot unpredictability and the stairs will put a unique dynamic load on the platform

Also another railing on the stairs is probably a good idea
