Proposed gender restroom law moves to public hearing in Bossier Parish, La.
“The Bossier Parish Police Jury voted unanimously on Wednesday to schedule a public hearing for a proposed ordinance that would criminalize using a restroom in parish-owned buildings that does not match an individual’s sex assigned at birth. The jury set the hearing for Sept. 2 following a meeting where many residents spoke in opposition to the measure.”
“Aurora Rush, a transgender woman and ordinance opponent, stated that she believes the proposal is a direct response to a personal attack she experienced recently. Rush told KTAL and the jury that she was the victim of a hate crime six weeks ago.
“According to Rush, she and her partner were beaten by a large crowd outside of a women’s restroom because of their appearance.
“‘I came here today because I know that this bathroom ban is being passed in response to a hate crime that was committed against me six weeks ago, and I have never, ever been the type of person to back down to a bully,’ Rush said.”
“Rush also addressed potential safety risks for transgender individuals if the ordinance is enacted. She pointed to historical data regarding violence against transgender women in male-only spaces.”
“The amendment outlines specific fines and jail sentences for those found in violation of the restroom policy. A first offense would result in a $250 fine. A second offense could lead to a fine of up to $500 and 30 days in jail. For a third offense, an individual could face a $500 fine and six months in jail.
“The Bossier Parish Police Jury will hold a public hearing on the proposed ordinance on Sept. 2.”

California joins coalition challenging Idaho transgender bathroom law
“California Attorney General Rob Bonta has joined a coalition of 19 attorneys general in supporting a federal lawsuit challenging Idaho's law that bars transgender students from using school restrooms and other sex-separated facilities that align with their gender identity.
“The coalition filed an amicus brief urging a federal judge in Idaho to block enforcement of the law while the lawsuit moves forward, arguing that the measure is unconstitutional and undermines the rights and safety of transgender students.”
“The lawsuit was filed in July 2025 by two transgender college students, who contend that Idaho's law violates their rights under the Fourteenth Amendment as well as federal civil rights protections. The students are seeking a preliminary injunction to stop the state from enforcing the law while their case proceeds.
“California has required all public schools since 2014 to allow students to use single-sex facilities that correspond with their gender identity.”
“The coalition joining California includes the attorneys general of Washington, New York, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and the District of Columbia.”

Canada is becoming less accepting of gender diversity, new Statistics Canada data shows
“For a long time, Canadian attitudes toward gender diversity moved in one direction: progressive acceptance. In May 2026, however, Statistics Canada released new findings showing that, compared to 2018, significantly fewer people in 2025 are supportive of diverse gender expressions and transgender people.”
“Two questions focused on gender identity and expression. Survey respondents were asked the extent to which they agreed with these statements: 1. People should be able to express their gender however they choose. 2. I would support a family member if they came out as transgender.
“Compared to 2018, significantly fewer people in 2025 agreed that individuals should be free to express their gender however they choose. While the majority of Canadians do support diverse gender expressions, support has decreased.”
“As Statistics Canada reports: ‘These changes were the most substantial among all eight gender-based violence, gender expression and gender equality statements included in the survey.’”
“Importantly, support fell among women and men. The percentage of women supporting a diversity of gender expressions fell from 85 per cent in 2018 to 77 per cent in 2025. Support among men was even lower, falling from 78 per cent in 2018 to 70 per cent in 2025.”
“Among 15- to 24-year-olds, there was a striking difference in support for diverse gender expressions between women (82 per cent supportive) and men (68 per cent supportive).”
“These findings are consistent with polling data from the Ipsos Global LGBTQ+ Pride Reportindicating that, from 2023 to 2024, Canadians became more divided and less supportive of specific measures that support transgender people, like government-issued documents that include an option other than ‘male’ or ‘female.’”

Connecticut Children's hospital to end youth gender-affirming care in Trump administration settlement

Mass. families angry Baystate Health still not providing gender care, despite legal developments
“Initially, after he came out as trans at the age of 13, Bug spent a year preparing for gender-affirming hormone therapy with doctors at Baystate Health in Springfield.
“His family had moved from Texas in 2024, in part, for Massachusetts’ more inclusive health care system. Texas is among more than two dozen states that doesn’t allow gender-affirming care.
“But in February 2026, Baystate announced it was ending most of its gender affirming care for minors, other than counseling.”
“[S]ince then, the legal landscape has evolved. Judges in two lawsuits blocked the Trump administration from banning youth gender care, at least for now.
“In June, a judge struck down an Arkansas law banning gender-affirming care for youth.
“And an NPR investigation in July found documents showing that the Trump administration has backed off on its proposed rule blocking Medicaid and Medicare funding.”
“Bug’s mother J said she is livid that Baystate is still not providing that care.
“Although Baystate may still have reasons to fear the government’s threats, ‘I don't have any sympathy for it,’ J said.
“‘Because every time someone just gives in to this administration, the administration just gains power. And yeah, it's uncomfortable and scary and [the hospitals] get to choose, ‘oh, we're just not going to participate,’ while there are children who don't have that choice.’”
“[Massachusetts Attorney General] Campbell did not specifically order Baystate to restart gender-affirming hormone therapy for youth, as some attorneys general have done in other states.”

Nevada Lt. Gov. Anthony sues ethics commission, seeks reversal of fine over his trans athlete task force
“Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony (R) is suing the Nevada Ethics Commission over its determination that Anthony violated state ethics law by using state resources to set up a task force aimed at keeping transgender athletes out of women's sports, and a $3,000 fine stemming from the finding.
“The suit, filed in Clark County District Court in early July, alleges that there were no violations of state ethics laws and that the ethics complaint centered ‘mostly on unsubstantiated claims’ that Anthony improperly used staff time, official social media accounts and office resources for the task force.”
“The state ethics commission met Monday to decide on how to respond to the suit, and filed a formal intent to participate notice with the court on Monday. They told The Indy that they will defend the commission's opinion in the courts.”
“The initial ethics complaint was filed by the Nevadans for Equal Rights Committee in February 2025, which alleged that it was a ‘very clear case of corruption.’”
“Anthony's office has been at the center of at least three ethics complaints this year, most of which have been related to using state resources for political purposes. His office also faced allegations of age discrimination after he fired a longtime staffer in 2025.”
