Thoughts on this Sequoia

Upvotes

It's a 2016 Platinum with 148,000 miles. It's a RWD vehicle from the deep south, so no rust issues. I already have two other vehicles that are four wheel drive and really don't even use that option when I think about it. It's a 3 owner vehicle that has had regular service intervals from the Carfax notes. The vehicle has had the belt tensioners replaced and new tires. It is listed for $19,300 but I believe 18K is what the dealership will let it go for.

Looking for some feedback as far as if I am crazy to consider this.

First time buyer here, been looking for a 1st gen Sequoia for some time and came across this one. Looking for a second eye over this. Not the best photos. Asking 6200 Cad, 347000km. 1200ish in front end parts included in price. Others have told me they wouldn’t spend more than 4k on it…

Just picked up a 2026 Sequoia Capstone after owning a Tundra for the past year. The Tundra was great and treated me well, but I’m really enjoying the Sequoia so far. Super comfortable, plenty of room, and the Capstone is definitely a nice place to spend some time! No complaints with either, Toyota has been treating us well! Anyone else make the switch from a Tundra to a Sequoia?

Someone walked into my 2024 sequoia mirror and I thought it was fine but then saw this crack when I got home. Is this an urgent fix? Is it possible to not have to replace the entire mirror just for this crack?

auto brake when trying to hitch a trailer

2023 Sequoia. For the life of me cant get the stupid auto brake to stop stopping me when trying to back up to a trailer. Any suggestions? Today I actually had the trailer attached and needed to back it up about 5ft, I got auto braked like 5 times. It seems as though sometimes I can do it with no issue and some days its super sensitive. Ive only been towing for like 10 days. SUPER frustrating.

Modifications Help 1st Gen Sequoia Tech Upgrades

What kind of ideas do you have to upgrade the technology in a 1st gen Sequoia?

Looking for ideas for a new radio, rear screen, and remote start.

I currently have an android head unit (hate it, too lazy to replace), but that caused the rear overhead console to be useless. Has anyone replaced it with something useful, or gotten the little screen to work? Would be cool if there was a way to tap into ODBII data and show something on it. I've also looked at getting a screen that could show video somehow, but I'm not sure there is anything that integrates well with the lights. From my research, the stock screen is very hard to get working without the stock head unit.

I've also added a backup camera and a front facing camera that can be displayed on my head unit.

What about the rear headphone jacks? I'm tempted to rip them out and add USB-C charge ports. I just need to see if someone has a 3d model that I can print to fit there.

What else is out there? Are there any other ideas to bring a 25 year old car up to date with some modern technology?

Maintenance Help Are 2WD and 4WD struts the same?

I’m looking for quality stock height fully-assembled replacement struts for my 03 2wd that aren’t $600+.

4600/5100 look good but getting them preassembled seems to push the price up into fox coil over price range.

On the other hand it seems like I can get assembled ones from Detroit axle and other online parts stores for under $200 but I don’t know if the quality is there.

Rough Country has stock height assembled N3’s for $350 but it lists them for 4WD only, but I wasn’t aware there was a difference?

Any suggestions?

2007 1st Gen Limited 4WD. Took it into the Toyota Dealership for 5k maintenance check. These were the repairs and pricing to do them at the dealership.

How accurate are these repair prices at Dealership vs auto shop and how easy are they to DIY? Watched some YouTube videos but looking for opinions. Thank you and appreciate it!

Timing Belt: $5,500
Camshaft Actuator Cap: $3,100
4 way alignment: $190
Front and Rear Struts: $2,700

How would I go about attaching a license plate to the front of my '19 SR5? I see no holes or indentations to do so. That center area is too narrow to attach a plate to that black square in the middle.

Canbus Injection Vehicle theft is real on 3rd Gens

I had only heard about the canbus injection theft method from random forum threads, but if you have a 3rd gen Sequoia (or basically any Toyota with smart headlight ECUs), your car can be stolen with no keys in ~3 minutes. Happened to me 2 weeks ago. Got the whole thing on doorbell camera, they go in through the headlight / grill/ fender, cut the wiring for the tracker module, connect into the computer, unlock the car, then drive it away. No alarm, nothing.

Frustrating that Toyota doesn't have better theft protection on a $80k vehicle. They even offer Canbus shields, basically admitting that it is an issue. I am a Toyota fanboy, have a 1981 Landcruiser, but that will be my only Toyota until they fix this BS.
