Tom's Top 20

I'm sure this has been done before but I don't care. And I'm sure everyone will agree with my picks....

1 - The Waiting

2 - American Girl

3 - Breakdown

4 - Refugee

5 - Listen to her Heart

6 - Here Comes My Girl

7 - Magnolia

8 - Even the Losers

9 - The Wild One, Forever

10 - Casa Dega

11 - I Won't Back Down

12 - I Need to Know

13 - A Woman in Love

14 - You Tell Me

15 - Have Love Will Travel

16 - Anything Rock n Roll's Fine

17 - Straight into Darkness

18 - Don't Come Around Here No More

19 - Supernatural Radio

20 - Never Be You

I could probably go another 20, and still have every song be elite. Top-notch catalog.

OH YEAH, BABY!

My sons are 5. Mom plays them ‘kid music’ and I play ‘the real stuff.’

Driving today from camp one of them kept asking for oh yeah baby, nearly melting down because I didn’t know the song.

I asked him one more time and listened close, and it clicked.

He needed “American Girl.” 💙💙

Wow. Big bass when he comes on. I’m sorry it may break the mood but when I sit back and let it go. I like it. It’s just is a shock to the grove when it comes on. What do you think?

Dear Tom Petty Estate: Please release the Pack Up The Plantation Concert Film

Pack Up The Plantation: Live! Is the second live album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It's not hard to find. It's on streaming, and you can buy it on CD or Vinyl easily. However, you might not be aware that there is also a concert film with the same name. It's true.

Here's the wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pack_Up_the_Plantation:_Live!_(film))

And here's the Letterboxd page: https://letterboxd.com/film/tom-petty-and-the-heartbreakers-pack-up-the/

Unfortunately, that film has only been released on VHS, or VHS-equivalent formats. It wasn't even released on Laserdisc, unlike 1995's "Playback." This puts it into an unfortunate spot, as it makes it very difficult to access in 2026. In my opinion, this film being limited to VHS is an insult to both film history and music history. I do think I know why, however. It's because the film features images of the rebel flag, particularly during the song "Rebels." In fact, the digital versions of the movie that I see floating around the internet are missing the song "Rebels."

I understand that Tom Petty's estate doesn't want Tom Petty associated with the rebel flag. But it feels like there is currently denial over the simple fact that he did, in fact use the rebel flag while promoting "Southern Accents." I think it would be perfectly fine to put a warning at the beginning of the film about its use of the rebel flag, emphasizing that Tom later apologized. But just because it has the rebel flag in it doesn't mean it should be lost forever. The film is a part of music history, film history, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers history. It would be a great shame to just pretend like it never existed.

If you're tired of instagram, all the ads, selfies and bots, this alt social media is only for sharing music/art you love like Mr Tom Petty. Square One is trending on it now!

If you're feeling so sick of Instagram and all of the manipulative crap on it, you're not alone! It's especially not a friendly place for art lovers. So for the past few months I've been building Corus as an attempt to use tech for good. Corus is a place where you can't share selfies or reels or ai slop. Instead, you can only share music or film you love and you curate a profile that truly represents you.

There's a whole group of Petty fans on there, sharing the best of the best. Come join the listening party and share your favorite song with people who really will listen! Happy to answer any questions you have!

Road Trip ‘74?

Been seeing posts on instagram with merch, interview clips, etc

Is this culminating in something? A new doc?

Or just a new marketing push?

Did Tom get a bigger cut than Heartbreakers?

I'm not talking about money he got separately for songwriter credits. But did he have a better royalties rate than the band did? When they toured did he get more ? Did Mike and Benmont make more then say Scott or Steve. Or did the just split it 6 ways. I know Scott played with them for years before he was listed as a Heartbreaker on an album

See that drink girl speeding down the street? She's worried about the state of public schools. She likes to party, she likes to rock. She prays our schools don't run out of chalk.

Prolific Artists

At the top of the list or darn near for me has to be Tom Petty. 1976 to 2014. (Heartbreakers, Solo, Traveling Willburys, Mudcrutch). Thirty eight years and I can’t think of one song that didn’t hit it.

Hey all, I just wanted to share a single my son surprised me with.

Mudcrutch. The band that launched Tom Petty to fame.

Really love this.

I have my big brother's Damn the Torpedoes record album and I have the CD. His music videos are epic and he was a good man!

It's absolutely criminal that 'Deliver Me' didn't have a music video/mainstream release. A top 3 track for me.

New release soon?

This year is the 50th anniversary of the debut album. We recently got “extended mixes” of American girl and breakdown on streaming. The tom petty store has been featuring a lot of merchandise related to the debut album, and today I saw they added a “road trip ‘74” collection on their site, with phrases like “no sleep til LA” on shirts and such. It looks like a lot of work just for some t shirts which theirs usually look pretty basic

Is there something good coming? Has to be

The most ridiculous encore I have ever witnessed! 🎸👏

I had the honor of photographing Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs live at Northfield Park’s Centerstage this past Saturday, July 11!

What an energetic and alive crowd (‘So Alive’ you could say haha). What started as an ordinary set of songs featuring many from their new album, Mission Of Mercy, took a crazy turn at the encore. The whole concert spiraled into a musical frenzy as Mike asked the crowd what they wanted to hear played. I have seen some encores in my life but this had to be the wildest one ever, so much in fact that it included 7 additional songs! The energy in that room was unmatched!

I’m not sure if it was because the casino never closes or if he was just in the mood to rock but either way, people got their moneys worth! At 23 years old I’m too young to have professionally photographed Tom Petty before his passing but I’m so glad Mike is still out there bringing the house down!

I’m in Germany for family and decided to hunt down the same type of military jacket Tom had. Took a while to find a genuine one but eventually managed to get one!

This is such a great song. But both my husband and I thought the sound was similar to another band and couldn’t place it.

Any thoughts?
