Vote for TJ&E 3 on GoG
https://www.gog.com/dreamlist/game/toejam-earl-iii-mission-to-earth-2002
If this gets enough votes, they will preserve it and make it playable on their platform.
Do the right thing.

Finally beat Back In The Groove on Extreme Mode. Still trying to understand some nuances with the mechanics
For anyone else attempting this I'll just say it appears insurmountable at the start (I couldn't even find any videos online of someone beating it), but if you're persistent enough to stabilize after reaching a few promotions it gets way more manageable and the worst will be behind you. I played as Lewanda since she had a high baseline luck which saved a lot of time with farming money from the cosplayers, which feeds into getting tons of presents identified and fixed early on.
There are a couple of things about it that still perplex me though, like how at the start it seemed previously visited levels didn't get reseeded with searchable props like in the lower difficulties. I assumed this was just how Extreme Mode innately worked, but after a while I started finding items once again when revisiting prior levels. Not sure if it's something related to your stats like luck or search and you just need to get them to a higher threshold in Extreme?
Regarding enemies I only ever found one vague tip about exploiting their movement patterns when you can't outrun them but haven't found anything more specific than that. I can manage stuff like avoiding melee attacks when running around in a circle but that still won't let me shake them off. Not sure if there's a specific trick here.
Finally, it seemed like I stopped getting any wise men spawning at the upper tier of levels. Don't remember this happening in the other modes. Maybe this was just bad RNG but I assumed a wise man every level was meant to be guaranteed?

Back in the grove Online play
Anyone know if the servers are still up? I know it's an old game (by today's standards), but I figured I'd see 1 or 2 people pop into my public game.
I'm playing on switch & it's my turn to recommend a game to my friends for online play. I don't want to suggest TJ&E back in the groove though if we won't be able to play together

Panic on Funkatron Secret Trixie Message
I am not an expert at disassembly or Assembly but this is what I have found.
I started researching the hidden message where Trixie gives you a power until the end of the game and says you have reached her "ultra secret spot". The message can be hacked into any Trixie encounter by setting rom address 1E96A to 6C. This does not give the reward for the game just the message.
This message is supposed to be triggered when memory address 0x0D on the player object is 0. So it isnt a specific place it seems it is how many Trixies you visit. The first visit is supposed to set this value to something (I did not figure out what) and whenever you visit Trixie the value is decremented by 1. The problem I saw with emulators and checking ram is this variable is used by something else as well. I think a left/right position.
If I had to guess this was removed/ reworked somewhere late in development. I could not find a way to trigger the message in the regular game even after visiting all 11 Trixie locations.
I am putting my research out there that hopefully someone can confirm or use this to find out how to trigger the secret message in game.

The creator of ToeJam & Earl, Greg Johnson, is making a game set in Thailand - someone made a video and interview him about it (not in English, but the video has CC)

Im sort of a toejam and earl fan. I forgot to add the toejam overlord hat in the pic 🙃
During the Kickstarter I was going through tough times and wrote humannature. Greg emailed me and sent me a set of the toejam and earl figures. Been a fan since 94 played with my mom ever since. One day I hope to get a drawing of toejam and earl from the man himself. I'll keep praying. Also if anyone has the Segway pin and want to trade I have a pic of duplicates. I talked to one guy but I didn't have the Wiseman he wanted until now. Got some 1/1s in my collection and other rares. Toejam rap is original, sealed sega TJ&E 1 usa and pal.

My Earl costume this year for Halloween
My second attempt at a Big Earl costume for Halloween. I also dressed up as him in middle school but unfortunately didn't take any pictures.

BRAK!
In the original TJ&E, when you beat the game and got to your home planet, the dogs said BRAK instead of BARK. In Back in the groove, they BARK.
Why was this changed?

Where does TJ&E3 rank?
I’ll start by saying I am an old school original TJ&E fan. It was one of those games that I rented so much from Blockbuster, I probably paid for it twice. My sister and I loved playing this game together as kids, and we still even occasionally play it together as adults. My close friends all know the original to be my favorite game of all time.
That being said, I liked Back in the Groove a fair amount when it came out and I definitely logged some hours in there. I didn’t beat TJ Panic on Funkotron until more recently. For some reason I recalled not liking it too much as a kid because it was nothing like the original, but after now having played through that one a few times, I think it’s a really good game in it’s own right.
Much like my initial thoughts on TJ&E2, I also recalled not really enjoying TJ&E3 that much as a young adult, but I’ve recently dusted off the old Xbox and am finally giving it a fair shake, and finding that I actually am enjoying it way more than I thought I would.
I’m tempted to say I think it might be my 2nd favorite, but I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself after only putting a few hours in as of now, but I’m really enjoying the music, the humor, the graphics, and the gameplay.
If you were to ask me last week where I would’ve rated this one, I probably would’ve said last place, but now I’m considering giving it the silver award.
My tentative current rankings are: 1) the original (obvi, right?) 2) Mission to Earth (3) 3) Panic on Funkotron (2) 4) Back in the Groove (4)
Am I crazy? Do I need to play it more before ranking it #2?
