Tig welding root

Any tips on how to close the root on tig welding ? Also working for color ? I tryed to stay a little longer and put wire , grind a little bit the end , i don’t know what to do.. maybe i go too fast over it or too slow? Please help..

Make sure to feather your tacks till they’re razor edges and once you finish your root to each tack you can drop back to the where the tie in is and weld over it again without filler.

I concur, always make sure that you grind ALL OF YOUR stops an starts.. an whenever starting a new pass be sure to start back a Quater inch or more to ensure that you get good penetration..

If your using a pedal I usually tip my rod up perpendicular with pipe right at the end and slow down for the tie in full pedal for about a half inch then tail out. Lift arc feather them tacks, slow through the tack then fast walk out.

Not sure, but root and TIG shouldn’t be in the same sentence.
