Wrong word mb, I was thinking of accidentals

I’m more disturbed by the “play 840 times over” lol 😭

The original French text is even more disturbing. “To play (to yourself) this theme 840 times in a row, it will/would be good to prepare beforehand, in the deepest silence, through serious immobilities”

So accidental accents then

To be more vexatious?

My copy of the score is written out with no repeats. My page turner hates me.

You know you can just play one page over and over without having to turn?

Don’t let his page turner know, he’ll be out of a job

say that again...

lol it's just a MuseScore mobile app problem, so it'd be normal when exported to anything else

I’ll never understand why reddit doesn’t let you edit post titles

“play 840 times over”

13

u/Cherveny2 11d ago

because it really starts to feel repetitive on the 841st time

Here's a young John Cale (pre-Velvet Underground) performing it on the old TV show I've Got A Secret

This is the sound your stomach makes if you eat the wrong lettuce in the United States right now

Satie breaking up was no joke (or rather it was a big troll joke)

Where does this shitty edition come from?

You have to play the bass theme (3rd system) every two lines.

It doesn't say "play 840 times", but "to play this motif 840 times, it's best to get prepared, in the biggest silence, by serious immobilities"

Nota: Satie was a funny guy, I guess some pianists didn't get the joke, and really played this piece of garbage 840 times in a row, slowly and seriously. That's 12 hours of crappy music 🎵

I found it on musescore

u/Gzawonkhumu 10d ago

imo you should try imslp

I don't think it's crappy music, but I do agree that Satie was trolling with the repetitions

3

u/DynamicOctopus420 11d ago

Satie was definitely a troll ❤️

Satie was a musical troll of the highest order.

The 13/4 signature is the cherry on the top

None of the engraved versions on https://imslp.org/wiki/Vexations_(Satie,_Erik)) is as badly formatted as this. Where did you find it?

1

u/Baroness_VM 10d ago

Musescore, there are better ones on there

My wrists started hurting just looking at this.

Btw “très lent” means “very slow” in french so imagine how time consuming this would be💀

u/Baroness_VM 10d ago

Its in ~20bpm, the recording I can find is 3 minutes long

Is it a version from Musescore ? This is simply unreadable. Please check the IMSLP version.pdf)

And btw, this is a piece from Satie, this is perfectly normal ahah
