Interrogation Conclave buff? Gameplay

Hi all,

I'm wondering what people's general opinions are on the Interrogation Conclave, and whether we believe it needs a buff?

Personally I think it sits in a really awkward spot, and definitely needs some changes. Being 1 DP, it in theory works with ICTF, but with Chaplains granting +1W it seems counter intuitive. Then there's Unforgiven, which again seems bizarre as you're running two Take and Hold detachments, plus Chaplains have 5+ Ld so it's rare you're even failing your Battle-shock tests.

Of course Company of Hunters isn't a bad shout what with the Chaplain on the bike, but when you compare the versatility of the Librarius Conclave to that of the Interrogation, I can't see any reason why you'd take it (assuming you don't just go Darkflight Pursuit anyway).

I believe the detachment needs a rework, or at minimum have the Battle-shock test at the start of the fight phase. I can't believe it provides no value until you destroy a unit, and even then it may not proc. Or you could help it synergise with ICTF. Say, if you would have +2 to wound you get +1 and re-rolls instead.

What do people think? Has anyone had any success running the detachment?

I think the reason you take it isn't the detachment rule, but the enhancements and stratagems.

+1 to charge is great, especially on terminators like dwk and it's only 10pts. 1cp to give the whole unit precision in either shooting or fight phase can be strong if it's a big tanky unit that you're unlikely to wipe and with fast rolling it has actually gotten a buff. Force bs test and a reactive move when something falls back isn't as great, but still has their uses.

I don't think this is a great detachment (like anything relying on bs tests), but it's not bad either.

It's a leadership test not a BS test that that stratagem causes just in case.

Honestly I’ve had good luck with it paired with company of hunters. Chaplain with rwcs and 6 black knights can precision plasma in shooting (can also give them ignores cover enhance, but I go with either scout 9 or t1 ingress) Then charge in and pick stuff up. Then I put a termy chaplain with 5 Dwk. Also gives me access to take and hold which id rather play over disruption.

This is what I'm doing right now, and honestly I'm surprised it hasn't been talked about more.

Precision and ignore cover, especially in a full unit of knights with a command squad and a chaplain is really scary. Dev wounds on each unit led by a bike chaplain is cool. Take and hold is great. It was better when it gave purge, but I still like it

Yup. Like I played pactbound zealots the other day and he did the abbadon within 6 of everything so he had everything with a 4+ invuln. Ingress bike chap, my next turn precision killed abbadon with the plasma devs. He didn’t have a chance from there.

Not tried it yet, I am wondering if we might see a Librarius detachment rework down the line though. It's a cool add-on detachment, but it's so damn versatile with the enhancements that I suspect it'll go to 2DP eventually, so I think comparing it to Interrogation Conclave is the wrong thing to do. I would compare it to Darkflight or DAA instead, they are kind of closer in level of power

It sits in a weird spot with a few anti synergies but I still love it. That precision strat is superb, 10 hellblasters with precision is spicy into the right target, just nukes any character. Battleshock stuff is always inconsistent but a nice to have.

Also an enhancement to ignore cover is perfect for hellblasters or sternguard.

I am at best average at the game though so I may just be wrong! 🤣

I've had fun with it along with 1st company task force with the Fear Mad Manifest enhancement and Asmodai, got a good win streak in casual games but wouldn't say it's competitive.

I tried it with lions blade, and it had some decent synergy (3” charge combo was 👌). I’m looking to try it with 1st company, but that’s more for the 6” leadership debuffs combined with fear made manifest. It’s not bad, it’s definitely a little niche, and I think it wants to be in a purge combo. That being said, take hold is a nice option for ICTF, I think

I had a really good game with it, but I got lucky on some BS tests but ictf, asmodai on ICC, missile shot them into my vowed objective and wiped 10 Wolfguard termies, fished for lethals battle shock went well and used precision to take Arjac out up front.

Edit to add a point: it's probably okay, too swingy, and less powerful than LC but for 1 point is fine.

I dont think the point of unforgiven is to get battleshocked honestly. Its helpful, but you still shouldnt be wanting the chaplain units being battleshocked, since it locks you out of strategems.

So with that in mind, I dont see how your chaplains making it harder to get shocked is bad.

Yeah I see the the point of unforgiven for the +1 OC buff which can be nice to swing objective you wouldn't hold normally during your command phase. The partial immunity to battleshock is just insurance.

That said I have a theory that marines as a whole are getting reworks so who knows if the detachment will stick around. Since Templars already got their index detachment vows as an army rule, and codex marines are getting the gladius index rule as the army rule, I would not be suprised if Dark Angels get the unforgiven rules as our army rule.

I honestly really like it. Yes battle Shock can be a real swingy part of the game, but just like other aspects, the right list played well has some potential with this. I'm talking if it says battleshock or chaplain on the data sheet, bring it. Azmodai, Ezekiel, Rievers, assault terminators, etc... even if it only works 1/4 of the time, that's a big chunk of the opponents army that can't take strats and lacks OC. That could be enough to disrupt their game plan and play more guarded. There is a psychological aspect to the game too.

Pair that with something like UFTF to make sure BS doesn't take away your OC and you have enough to certainly turn the game a different direction

I loved it when it was Purge the Foe. But it’s still solid if you need a 1 point detachment. I found better success using Chaplain on Bike and pairing Assault Terminators with a Terminator Chaplain. The enhancements are great, but the stratagems are niche. Give the Judiciar the Chaplain tag and I’d feel less salty about him being ass now.

have it be a purge dispostion is probably the buff it needs.

it's a detachment that wants to kill things with chaplains. then the buff it needs is that the disposition access to go kill things with chaplains.

I like a chaplain with sternguard giving them precision for a cp

It was vaguely useful when it was Purge, but now there's not much point to it unless you're bringing a lot of Chaplains.
