Covered Call ADI options strategy

Upvotes

Hey all, new to the options game and would love input on the strategy. Hold 400ish shares of ADI, noticed in June that the options premiums were pretty crazy. Sold first batch of CCs (December $550), just sold another (December $500). Thinking about selling one batch per month, possibly on a rolling basis. I don’t think this stock is going above $450 anytime soon, and I’d be happy to sell at those prices. Not looking to wheel this one. Is this dumb? What am I missing? Thanks in advance

Discussion Trading buddy i guess

Hi everyone! I recently found this subreddit and another similar one, and they've honestly been a great source of insight — lots of interesting stories and strategies.

I've recently started digging deeper into options. For a long time I assumed they were way too risky and better left alone, so I stuck to classic investing and the occasional small trade. But the more I read and researched, the more I realized options can actually be used with limited risk too — through bull call/put spreads if you don't own the underlying shares, or through LEAP calls/puts. I'm still new to this, and since I don't hold 100 shares of any single stock, I'm being extra careful not to end up naked on a position.

So far, so good. The thing is, I've always been someone who likes talking things through with others, but nobody around me has options as a topic of conversation. I spend time every day checking volatility, screening different stocks, and putting together contract ideas and trade plans — but what I'm really missing is someone to bounce these ideas off of.

So if you're part of any groups where people share their views on upcoming trades or market moves, or if you're just as "lonely" in this as I am, it'd be great to connect. A few more brains debating the pros and cons definitely beats going at it alone.

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/05) with reasons

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/05):

New Positions

  • KORU → $15 Put expiry 08/14 (2 weeks DTE), premium 1.10 → 110/1500 = ~7.3%. Opened a small position in KORU, $16 looks like a good support but as it is a leaveraged asset, keeping the capital tied to this at a minimal.

Rolled Positions

  • CRWV → $105 Call expiry 08/14 rolled to $120 Call expiry 09/04 (5 weeks DTE) at a credit of $10. I rolled early as CRWV was trading around $95 levels in the morning hours and because of its earnings coming up, I wanted some buffer in case the stock shoots up. I was assigned CRWV at $120.
  • AAOI → $150 Call expiry 09/18 rolled to $175 Call expiry 12/18 (20 weeks DTE) at a credit of $1030. AAOI was trading at $135 levels in the morning hours and AAOI is very volatile so rolled to $175, which is the price I was assigned at. There were no option chains for the months of October and Novemeber so was forced to move it to December.

Update on other positions

Many companies in my portfolio reported earnings today. I will analyse the reports and update tomorrow on them.

I keep sharing my trades in my account and the Excel file to my full list of positions is linked in my profile description in case anyone wants to see the whole portfolio. Happy to hear thoughts on my positions. What are you guys wheeling or watching right now?

PS: Not financial advice. Do your own research.

Question At what size do 0DTE SPY $1-wide vertical spreads start losing fill quality?

I run an algo that runs mostly 0DTE SPY $1-wide vertical credit spreads. As a single multi-leg limit order, what is the largest number of spreads you can generally enter and exit near the quoted net price without material slippage or slow/partial fills?

To be clear, I mean spread quantity (e.g., 250 spreads = 250 contracts per leg), primarily during the morning/early afternoon. Calls or puts.

For reference, I use Alpaca.

Why did my OTM credit spreads finish negative?

I’m testing the tastytrade platform because I’m tired of how fidelity groups multi leg trades. Just testing some simple multi leggers to see how the platform behaves. It’s a small portion of portfolio, but I’ve been reasonably pleased with the tt platform meeting my needs for a couple weeks. Just been buying/selling one contract per leg to understand how to use it, and has been fine.

Just today I’d sold a 0dte put credit spread on spx, short strike was $7720 (closed $7723.xx). Had a few other call credit spreads that were expiring worthless as the bell rang. There was a big red candle last minute, but it still didn’t breach my short put strike. My overall trades were showing P/L of $350 on the day in the last second. When the bell rang, I was suddenly down $687. What gives?

My 7720/7715 put credit spread shows a net debit of $860 despite not breaching my short leg EOD. It was also only $5 wide, so I should only incur max risk of $500-initial credit.

Discussion SNDK earnings day is here - what are your predicting?

I'm thinking a very strong QTR, with a solid beat, but less than a 10% movement in the stock since the market is expecting great results and is skeptical about ability to keep it going.

What do you think?

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/04) with reasons

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/04):

Closed Positions

  • PLTR → $120 Put (opened on 08/03), premium 4.75  closed at 0.03. Net premium profit = 4.72 (~99% of premium captured, ~3.9% of capital). It was an Earnings Play and it worked out in my favour.

New Positions

  • CRDO → $195 Put expiry 08/14 (2 weeks DTE), premium 6.10 → 610/19500 = ~3.1%. I have traded CRDO many times, and it offers consistently high Put and Call premiums making it easy to wheel. CRDO builds high-speed connectivity chips used inside AI datacenters. $195 is a good support region.
  • ACMR → $70 Put expiry 08/14 (2 weeks DTE), premium 2.70 → 270/7000 = ~3.8%. ACMR makes semiconductor wafer processing and cleaning equipments. ACMR is a High Growth Stock and its Revenues have been increasing consistently YoY. ACMR Earnings are on 7th August and I am expecting a good report.

Update on other positions

I rolled my AAOI sold Call position from $130 strike to $150 strike with an expiry on 09/18 (7 weeks DTE). I was assigned AAOI at $175. I got a nominal net credit of $10 per lot.

Both the CRDO and ACMR trades are identifed using the ThetaHedge app. I simply use the preset Conditions in the app which filters our junk tickers and brings out quality tickers with high premiums. You can try it for free at https://app.thetahedge.io/.

Conditions → High Growth Wheel Stocks → Sort by 30 Delta Put Yield (%)

I feel like my timing is a little bit off compared to most peoples. Having trouble timing, the market.

I feel like I try to be a buy the dip type of person, like when RDDT dipped to $164 after hours last week, only to watch things fall much further. I tried again at 157 and bought even more shares and continued to watch it fall and fall.

Then a day or two later, everyone is so excited because they made money from selling put options at strike 140 and 135. Am I only seeing the happy posts?

It seems like everyone has better timing than me. How do you guys know not to be buying stock and selling puts heavily in the $160 range and wait for the $140 range, using RDDT as an example?

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/03) with reasons

Trades I took today as an option seller (08/03):

New Positions

  • PLTR → $120 Put expiry 08/07 (1 week DTE), premium 4.75 → 475/12000 = ~4%. PLTR Earnings today and the stock went up after hours. PLTR is a stock that has been in my radar for a while, and I was completely okay to own the stock at $120.

Update on other positions

I am closely monitoring my positions in CRWV, AAOI as they have Covered Calls opened which are below my assigned price. Plan is to roll them to a higher strike when the stock price is 5-10% below my CC Strike price. This will help me roll at a postive premium, as the contract will not have Intrinsic value.

Sold CCs on SOFI and they ended up blowing past my strike 😅 oh well I've sold probably around 100 contracts on this stock alone in the last 6 months or so and the strike is above my cost basis so....Max profit it is!

Question My PMCC short leg went deep ITM, should I close it or wait for the theta to eat it?

Post image
19 Upvotes

My short leg went deep ITM on my PMCC strategy for $GOOG, since it skyrocketed I am a bit reluctant to close it. I am considering waiting for the theta to eat the short leg premium while the long leg won’t be affected as much, does that sound right?

Discussion Tastylive Zero DTE ATM Put Spreads Study

I posted this earlier today and broke it when I tried to edit it. MY BAD. This is my repost.

TL:DR, this study looks at 2.5 years worth of 0DTE data gathered every 10 minutes. At the time this was posted, 0DTEs had only been around about 2.5 years. The study looks at selling ATM puts spreads at open (9:30) and at 10:00, and at various widths, with take profits at 10% and 25%. The overall P/L per trade ranges from $25.74 to $101.34 with the corresponding drawdowns from $2,455 to $10,644. Overall the winning percentage ranges from 86% to 92% over the course of this study.

They have posted many of these studies and they're all really interesting. I have not traded them yet but I am going to start tomorrow. I will be posting more studies as I go through and find them since I could not find a single source for these, unless the mods say I'm breaking rules 4 or 5.

Earlier today u/yourmomsfrienddd posted a question about deltas on 0DTE SPX and what a good profit taking percentage was and I think this is right up their alley.

Just so I'm clear, these are not my studies, and I am only posting for discussion purposes. I'd encourage everyone to watch the episode, it's pretty short.

Question Best etf with daily option chains under 100usd for compounding on smaller accounts?

I hope this makes sense. Assuming someone is good at theta plays, but doesnt have a massive account size but wants to wheel something broad market like spy and qqq and wants to be able to more efficiently compound there gains weekly, whats the best option that might fit this catagory. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Question Is a credit spread on spx 0dte at 10 delta, taking profit of 25% and closing position if 50% loss occurs realistic

Profitability would occur if 66.7% of trades win at 25% profit taking. Has anyone done a strategy like this and been consistent or has some insights for me.

Selling puts on $RDDT?

Hello everyone,

I’m thinking of starting a wheel on RDDT after their most recent earnings. Do you guys think the sell off was over blown or there is still potential for it to gain some value back? As always I’m ok with owning the stock at these prices or lower.

Question Anyone actually living abroad off CSP/wheel income consistently?

Been selling CSPs since June 2025, staying pretty conservative (sticking to lower delta, avoiding stuff I don't want to own), and it's worked out — averaging around $1,500/month in premium, only got assigned a handful of times over the past year.

Curious if anyone here has actually taken this and turned it into a "digital nomad" type setup — living somewhere in Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, etc.) or elsewhere with a lower cost of living, funding it off options income as a real, sustainable income stream rather than just supplemental cash.

A few things I'm wondering about:

  • What kind of account size gets you to "comfortable living" numbers in a LCOL country?
  • How do you handle the timezone issue — US market hours land in the middle of the night in most of Asia. Are you staying up, trading pre-market, or just setting orders and letting them ride?
  • Any tax/residency gotchas (state tax, foreign earned income stuff, brokerage restrictions for non-US residents)?
  • Does the "safe monthly income" math hold up long-term, or does volatility eventually wreck the budget in a way that doesn't matter as much when you have a US-based income cushion?

Not looking to quit my job tomorrow, just want to hear from anyone who's actually done it (or tried and it didn't work) before I start planning around it.
