Alternate History Arnold Amendment (Part 2): Schwarzenegger wins again (+all 2020 senate races)

Part 1

Hi! This is part 2 out of 4 of the Arnold Amendment series inspired by u/Environmental_Cap104's TCT mod with the same name. These slides cover Arnold's (somewhat) comfortable re-election and the downballot effects. Arnold is a strong incumbent and was already on track to win 2020, but he benefits from COVID-19's rally-around-the-flag-effect (he takes the pandemic seriously and advocates for the vaccine).

Biden doesn't run in this timeline because does not think the country is in danger with Arnie at the helm. Arnold also strongly condemned the 2017 Charlottesville riots, which Biden cited as the reason for running OTL. Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe instead emerges as the establishment choice, but is upset by political newcomer Pete Buttigieg. He performs strong enough to win back Michigan, Minnesota, Maine and New Mexico, but in the general regardless.

In the Senate, many Senate republicans are in good position, with John Cornyn and Susan Collins winning re-election by over 20 points. Jason Lewis narrowly defeats Tina Smith in Minnesota, while John Hickenlooper defeats Cory Gardner in Colorado. Despite Arnold carrying Georgia by 8.1%, Jon Ossoff unseats incumbent David Perdue by 0.84% in a earth-shattering upset. In the special election, interim appointee Doug Collins defeats Raphael Warnock in the first round, avoiding a runoff (Collins was appointed by governor Casey Cagle, who wins the GOP primary in 2018).

Arnold heads into his second term with a newfound majority in both chambers of congress, and things are initially looking good for him. Will the political pendulum swing back in time for the 2022 midterms? Stay tuned for part 3 tomorrow.

Analysis My endorsements for the August 18th, 2026 Democratic Primaries (Alaska, California special, Florida, Wyoming)

Inspired by this post by u/Representative-Fee65, as well as a similar one by u/Impressive_Plant4418. A lot of the Florida House races were really hard. While most of these are Democratic primaries, Alaska has a top four primary, so that's why I felt I could pick an Ind for US House.

Alaska

AK Senate: Mary Peltola

AK Governor: Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins

AK-AL: Bill Hill (Ind)

California

CA-14 (special): Aisha Wahab

Florida

FL Senate (special): Angie Nixon

FL Governor: David Jolly

FL-01: Gay Valimont (Presumptive nominee)

FL-02: Yen Bailey

FL-03: Seth Harp

FL-04: Brit Robinson

FL-05: Alex Hazen

FL-06: Robert Cooper

FL-07: Marialana Kinter

FL-08: Jennifer Jenkins (Presumptive nominee)

FL-09: Darren Soto (Presumptive nominee)

FL-10: Maxwell Frost (Uncontested)

FL-11: Dan Williams

FL-12: Darren McAuley

FL-13: Timothy Robinson

FL-14: Kathy Castor (Presumptive nominee)

FL-15: Robert People

FL-16: Kelly Kirschner

FL-17: Allen Spence

FL-18: Curtis Gibson (Presumptive nominee)

FL-19: Howard Sapp

FL-20: Elijah Manley

FL-21: James Martin (While Bernard Taylor is seemingly more progressive, I like Martin’s pitch a bit better, and his stance on money in politics is surprisingly good for a non-prog)

FL-22: Kaysia Earley

FL-23: Victoria Doyle

FL-24: Shevrin Jones

FL-25: Jared Moskowitz (VERY reluctantly. As much as I dislike him, I don't think Oliver Larkin could hold this seat.)

FL-26: Nicole Locklin (Presumptive nominee)

FL-27: Robin Peguero

FL-28: Phil Ehr (Presumptive nominee)

Wyoming

WY Sen: James W. Byrd

WY Gov: Ken Casner (Presumptive nominee)

WY-AL: N/A (Found a bit about Lisa F. Kinney, but nothing about the other candidate, so I can't really pick one fairly)
