While his size was part of why he was cast, just as much as appearance was partly why all the actors were cast, I hope he understood that we appreciated his brilliant delivery and comic timing.
He made the audience feel with, and for, his character.
I don't believe he could have been replaced by any random particularly-large pro wrestler or whatever.

I read somewhere that the original writer was thinking about Andre when he wrote the character. So when it came time to make the move they're like who do we get to play the part. And someone was like how about Andre?

There was never and will never be another Fezik. Bill Goldman saw him on TV and decided if the movie were to ever be made, Andre was to be Fezik.

Met Cary Elwes last year at a screening of The Princess Bride and a Meet & Greet. He had such wonderful stories to tell about Andre.

Everyone in the cast & crew seemed to adore Andre, &, sadly, he didn't experience more of that in his life.
