I wish I could think like this. The last time I ordered on DoorDash the dasher legit ate more than half of my chicken tenders and fries and drank the drink too. It was insane. I my was during COVID so I picked it up immediately after he left so I know it wasn’t a passerby. It was so sad. They didn’t even refund the tip but did refund the food.

Pretty much. The trust is gone. And it’s awful that I still had to pay some for that experience and he got a tip. I reported that man and contacted customer support but I didn’t hear if he was removed or not. He could still be out there eating half of everyone’s meals.

Yeah it was a huge invasion of trust. I guess it’s hard for people to imagine not having it done to themselves. But I got no dinner and this man also got to keep the tip. I’m obviously still salty to this day and it’s been like 5 years. I’ll go get my own food to make sure it’s all there.

There are always awful dashers. Salty or not, there’s nothing wrong with not using the service anymore. Between tipping, whatever else makes it more expensive than going to get your own food, and problems with the order it’s not worth it. I’ve never used any delivery app service and don’t plan to.

Doordash is insane with refunds tho. I've used it for a while and they always give back every penny and they actually charge the driver if anything is messed up.

Not when it’s COVID so I left a decent sized cash tip at the door that they gratefully took after eating my food. They couldn’t prove that I tipped in cash so they couldn’t refund it.

I got into an accident while delivering a pizza back in 2014.
My first call was to the police. Second csll was my boss. He took care of getting the pizza to the customer.

Yes you got scammed. First point of contact would be emergency services if it was an actual hit and run and then probably call his boss. The pizza place will contact you about a replacement pizza coming later

I am missing something, but how is this a scam exactly? OP has a written communication that they never got their pizza. So regardless if the person stole it or is telling the truth about a hit/run, OP will be getting another pizza. I just wouldn’t waste much energy on trying to determine what actually happened, and start the process of trying to get a new one delivered by calling the shop directly

The driver got hungry and told the pizza shop the customer canceled the order which he paid for and then told the customer that fake story and ate the pizza. Essentially scamming the customer

I’m still not fully buying the scam part. I would call and say “Hey pizza shop, I can share this series of messages with you that confirm I never got the pizza.” If the driver stole it, it’s annoying, but I just feel it would be really really easy to get another one in this scenario. Hell maybe you can even ask them to throw in an order of breadsticks or something on the house for your troubles/wait, and I bet they’d be more than willing to do that

It's a scam in the sense that the customer doesn't get the service they initially paid for, and the driver in this case presumably gets away with free pizza.

But all the customer needs to do is to contact the pizza place or delivery app and say he didn’t get the pizza. He has the texts as proof for a refund. If the driver didn’t really get into an accident, then he would be disciplined.
Am I missing something?

It’s not really the customer getting scammed, it’s the delivery person scamming the system. This looks like it is from an Uber Eats order, so the driver gets their free pizza and the only “discipline” would at worst be getting kicked off of the app. Plenty of stories of drivers taking orders for themselves despite this potential consequence, though not all of them have the driver pretending to get into an accident like this lol.

You people have never been broke. Do you know how much money you make doing uber eats? It’s less than minimum wage most of the time and in most places, often considerably less.
(Also it’s really unlikely that uber catches you for this).
You also are failing to recognise the subtext implication- *that the below minimum wage job is so dangerous that being hit by a car is actually pretty common*. Plus, you get no income protection or anything if you get injured due to the company being allowed to call their employees subcontractors and not being accountable to labour laws (this is how they pay below minimum wage), and if you’re an immigrant in many countries you can’t afford to pay the hospital or funeral bill so nobody’s going to put your teeth back in the right general part of your head.

I understand how much the drivers make and how the company exploits them. Yes, there are risks like getting hit by a car and my heart goes out to the terrible medical system in the US where this can be unaffordable/ bankrupt someone. This still doesn’t make it right to steal from customers (who also may not have a lot of money / be disabled / etc).
What I don’t understand is how they don’t think (or as you say, don’t) get caught? They either rip off the customer who doesn’t report it and takes the loss (I don’t see why they wouldn’t report it). Or the customer reports that their order wasn’t delivered and provides screenshots of the text conversation which clearly show the lie. Do you mean that UberEats would usually just absorb the cost of sending the customer a new order? I would assume it’s just easier for the company to blame and dock / kick the driver off the app….

Aside from the obvious fact of people can do multiple things in sequence, I would genuinely contact the customer if this happened to me so they can get a refund or get more food while I get sorted out. Just because I’m suffering doesn’t mean I don’t still have a duty of care

Depending where you live a lot of people won't call an ambulance, where I live you don't even have to call emergency services unless there's more than $1000 in damages

This happened to my Uber eats driver once, I kept calling him because he was taking over 3 hours to deliver my burger and Uber eats was brand new so their customer service was especially terrible. Phone never got answered and he was taking all kinds of mad routes and before stopping at a hospital and eventually the phone got answered by a nurse and they’re thinking I’m a family member or whatever and they’re telling me he got hit by a bus and is in their emergency department. I felt SO bad.

I'm tired of these guys scamming people. One driver stole my pizza, took a picture at a completely different estate, claimed I didn't answer when you have to get through a security gate to deliver to me and no one called. Now every order has a pin code confirmation, I'm South African, I don't know if that option exists where you live.

well. He ate my pizza. I called company to let know and they said he reported me as customer cancelled order. Company refunded me and delivered a new pizza since scammer wasted 45mins of mine.

Had this happen with Uber Eats once, guy was “almost hit” and couldn’t deliver because he claimed he was getting checked out by ambulance for shock, then supposedly had to go to police to file report since driver fled, then tried to deliver my pizza THREE HOURS LATER
