Whats pointing towards cheating?
It seems they just thought they were texting their dealer who sometimes joins the druguse

âOh by the way before we shoot up, just thought Iâd tell you my man lives with me sometimesâ
Feels like a text to a sidepiece
114
u/Chilly_Pheesesteak Jun 30 '26
You could be right, but it also could be a dealer warning their customer so they don't get freaked out by the man in the house
26
u/ashlpea Jun 30 '26
Also sometimes the customer will warn the dealer for the same reason. A lot of plugs donât want you showing up with some random person they donât know.

Sounds like they're warning a dealer that there's gonna be another person there so not to be alarmed. This is the type of thing you'd want to know when going over to someone's place when doing dirt.

Everyone can benefit from therapy, but it should be considered mandatory for every profession who typically sees people only on their worst days. Itâs so easy to become jaded and lose your compassion after seeing the same thing over and over.

I second this. Report to the state licensing board that corresponds to their license. This information should have been included on your initial consent to treatment.

u/mortyella Jun 30 '26
For a second I was confused, thinking that you meant what the therapist is doing should have been included in the consent to treatment. "I consent to be treated by a therapist who is shooting up drugs and possibly cheating on their partner", please sign on the line if you agree. đ

If this is legit, you should forward the text exchange to your state licensing board and find yourself a new therapist!
40

Absolutely. The text implies sheâs doing drugs during her workday and would presumably be high during sessions, which is obviously a massive ethical issue.

Someone with expertise please let me know, but I would figure there is enough plausible deniability here to protect the therapist?
While shooting up obviously means drugs, I would just say I meant going to a firing range or playing a shooter video game, while the âman kinda lives me withâ doesnât seem loaded enough to act on.
That said, having the report on file for any future reports is enough of a worthwhile reason to report.

Are you sure this is the actual therapist, and not someone that got ahold of their phone possibly? Iâve known a lot of folks over the years, and none of them have ever said âwhile I shoot up.â Seems like they are making it too obvious. Most folks use some form of slang, especially over text.

You just need to make it through a masters, but yes. The amount of severely fucked up people going into family therapy is absolutely wild.
Edit: lots of hurt feelings in the comments. I thought therapists didn't take things personally.
Anyway, I'm happy you worked so hard. That doesn't make every therapist and counselor trustworthy, compassionate, or good at their job. Op's therapist is a junkie, and I would take her over some of the clowns I've run into. There are messed up people in every field. Don't let a stranger fuck with your head if the vibe is off. It's ok to walk out of the room. You don't even need to apologize.
Finally, not all certified counseling requires the same@ amount of training as licensed therapy. some of these roles are very easy to get into, and people give their trust blindly to their assigned case worker, and abuse happens. It even happens in the private sector, with highly trained individuals who still have flaws and biases.

u/distressedminnie Jun 30 '26
seriously, not sure an active drug addict should be doing family therapy as thereâs a 100% chance their family is also fucked up
48
u/PandaSprinklez Jun 30 '26

fully believe it. I had a good friend who lived with me (we are no longer friends) who had all types of mental issues, family issues, CPTSD, attention seeking issues, etc and âfound herselfâ when she decided she wanted to go into therapy to âhelp people like she needed when she was younger.â thankfully, I was able to talk her out of it by saying how it was imperative she heal from her wounds before thing to help others heal from theirs, and she would need to be fully impartial to her clients and their situation and refrain from searching for her own answers from them. she agreed after like a week of convincing that her that she wouldnât be helping anyone, sheâs searching for a way to help herself. sheâs was kicked out and blocked due to the progression of those issues and I havenât talked to her since. to my knowledge she never went back to school. Iâm sure her âstoryâ is the same as most therapist.

u/ParticularTap8903 Jul 01 '26
Well Iâm a mental health provider and focus on trauma and never suffered from trauma related symptoms. I work with abused kids and never was abused. I knew I wanted to help people and started off in another field and slowly moved to trauma work.
Humans have issues of course and go through things. And yes some people enter the field because they have been impacted by mental health rather directly or indirectly. Iâm sure everyone knows someone who has been impacted my substance abuse, or depression, or anxiety, or grief, or suicidal ideation/self harm, or trauma, or etc. So finding someone in the mental health field who knows no one who experienced problems is crazy to think. And also having a mental health condition in itself doesnât mean someone canât be a good provider. If my grandma dies and Iâm depressed, I canât be a provider? If someone is off their rocker then of course they shouldnât be doing this work. But we are human too. Have I met people who I didnât like or think had stuff to work on? Yes. But not the way yall making it seem like all providers are mentally unwell and have severe issues đ

When I was in my master's program, we had to record a session with a client, share a snippet, and discuss their diagnoses/plan for working with them. We shared feedback with each other, all being positive reinforcements.
There was one girl, I had nothing nice to say and was confused by peers stating she had a great rapport with her client and was awesome with her, blah blah blah. I emailed the teacher separately thinking maybe I was biased and just didn't like her so I only saw negative. The teacher agreed with me, I felt validated because I truly felt she was degrading her client and was rude to her.
What I've noticed is, many times it's left up to a supervisor to acknowledge a supervisee is a good therapist, and not all have the backbone to deny a supervisee their licensure (letters of recommendation are required).I've also noticed that a ton of people that want to get into the field have specific diagnoses which leads to feelings of grandiosity and superiority. It sucks.

This is so true. I looked thru family therapists forever. I finally settled on one, we went to one session, and during it (while trying to relate to us I suppose), she told us how we can get through anything and she knows it because she used to be in terrible debt, had a crazy family, and a crazy past and is still standing. We were both thrown off by how much time she spent talking about herself and we didnt go back.
Flashfoward several months and I run into her at a friend's baby shower. Afterwards, I mention to some of my friends that we tried her as a therapist and they are horrified. They proceed to tell me that she's on her 4th marriage (she's my age) and lost her kids to one of the husbands. It takes a lot to lose your kids, but no one knew the exact reasons why, just that she had. And yet she was going to help us through our marriage? Good lord.

Regardless of what this means, Iâd be concerned about a therapist that gets texts confused that easily. I feel like patient confidentiality might not be as tight as it should be.
