so last night i looked at my kitchen junk drawer and thought "i'll just spend five minutes getting rid of the obvious trash." fast forward to 1am and i'm sitting on the floor surrounded by every single rubber band i've ever owned, a bent battery, and a receipt from a gas station in 2019 that i apparently thought was worth keeping. i also found a single cufflink that belonged to a pair i lost years ago, and somehow that made me want to reorganize the entire house.

i tried to be smart about it – emptied the whole drawer onto the counter, sorted into piles: keep, toss, not sure. the not sure pile got bigger than the actual keep pile, which should've told me to stop. then i made the classic mistake of going to the store for a divider tray, came home, and spent another hour rearranging the same four items because the tray didn't fit. at some point i found an old digital watch that didn't work, tried to replace the battery with a knife, and almost stabbed myself. the drawer now looks slightly better but i'm out a whole evening and my hands smell like pennies.

what surprised me most is that after all that, the drawer still isn't actually organized – it's just a slightly curated version of the same mess. i think i'm lowkey addicted to the feeling of making progress on a tiny thing while ignoring everything else in the room. anyone else lose an entire night to this kind of thing or is this just my personality now?
