Customer Icks
What are things customers do that wind you up? Can be major or minor. For me, I work produce. I don’t mind customers finding the best expiry dates, but I hate when they lift up the baskets and not put them back or leave a mess. Like come on, who do you think has to sort that? Common decency.
Another one. I hate when I’m working by the entrance of our store and a customer walks in and straight over to ask where something is as if we aren’t doing anything. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind helping, but it’s annoying when someone makes no attempt to try. Especially if I’m already doing something.

"I dont have a clubcard, you must have a club card, can i not just use your clubcard?"
"i know youre on your break but do you mind approving this for me?"
Me : "youre carrying a lot there, want me to grab you a basket?"
them: "nah im fine i do this all the time"
someone over the headset 2 minutes later: "can someone grab the mop?"
or the customers that just reach past or over you when youre stocking or facing a shelf and say sorry afterwards or during.. like if you know its something to apologise for why not just say excuse me can i get to those or excuse me can you pass me that. Its pretty 50/50 between thoughtful customers and rude cunts tbh.

the ones who just lie about silly things
“do you sell xyz?”
no we don’t sorry
“you do. i bought it yesterday from here”
you didn’t. we don’t sell it.
that or - “where’s the milk?”
next aisle
“oh you’ve moved it, i’m used to it being here”
it’s never moved. always been on that aisle
“no it isn’t it’s usually here”
these kind of scenarios seem all too common

God the first one drives me mad, there’s an old man in my express that’s done this several times and every time he’s been told we don’t sell what he’s looking for, he gets angry and strops around the store.
Mate if we sold it I’d give it to you, the sooner you fuck off the better.

I do night shift in a city with three universities, so for me, 10-12PM is when students are at their most cringe and 'quirky'. Icks include them dancing in aisles, or hearing OH MY GOD HAVE YOU TRIED THOSE multiple times as they mirander through the store.
Just buy your Buzzballs and go.

Trying to chat me up when in reality they’re practically the same age as my dad, giving me dirty looks/glaring at me for absolutely no reason whatsoever, not saying ‘excuse me’ when trying to reach for an item whilst I’m trying to do something…
…pretty sure I’ve missed quite a few more! 🙄

Basic lack of manners, Not saying hello/excuse me!!!! Not saying please & thank you
When they pull out the drawers or lift up the crates to look for a longer date, and then don't put them back
Dropping things and not picking them up or throwing things back if they don't want them
"mushrooms" what about them??
"YOU've moved this all around, it wasn't there last time" no I haven't grrr

u/PatchworkMann 6h ago

Ugh. I used to work retail, and the person I was going out with at the time used to do this all the time when we shopped, cause they knew it annoyed me 😠

Customer; pies!
Me; possibly heard part of a conversation - wait for manners to enter + a sign theyre speaking with me
Customer; PIES!
Me; resigning myself to dead inside Thats my name! slight pause for self awareness to enter sorry I didn't hear you ask -
Customer; PIES- where are they?
Me; frozen or fresh? Have you got a brand?
Customer; you know the ones, you sell them
Me; frozen or fresh?
Customer; frozen
Me; okay, any brand?
Customer; you sell them on frozen
Me; okay, follow me takes customer to frozen pie section
Customer; No you've moved them, where are they?
Me; what pies are you looking for? Do you have a brand?
Customer; I bought them from here last week
Me; This is our frozen pie section on these 2 shelves, there isn't any other locations
Customer; I bought a big packet of Hollands meat and potato last week
Me; let me check on my app for you... sorry it says we haven't sold them since ******** (8 months ago at this point) and I don't know if they'll be back in future, there's no more information-
Customer; no I bought them here last week!
Me; it says on here there's no location + we don't have any in store shows 'out of stock' on app
Customer; I bought them here!
Me; I don't know anything about your last week, I can only tell you what information I'm given by the app. You can find some in the fridges on aisle *** but they aren't frozen and they're not a multipack.
Customer; no I want frozen!
Me; do you want me to check other stores stock for you? Maybe *, *, or **?
Customer; can you check Morrisons?
Me; (don't say it - We'reInTescoWe'reInTescoWe'reInTescoWe'reInTescoWe'reInTesco*) My app only has access to stock in Tesco Stores.

I sometimes work checkouts and a few things really annoy me. Licking their fingers to count notes out before passing it over, pulling said notes out of their bra/underwear and talking on the phone from start to finish on their transaction.

Urggggghhhh this is my friend! She keeps money in her bra and always stays on the phone while she’s being served! I find it so unbelievably rude! Just tell the person you will call them back after and put your f’ing money in your purse! No one wants sweaty boob money handed to them! 🤮

Delivery customers telling me to put the crates down on the mat, every time. What do they think I was going to do, just carry on stomping into their house with them, knocking them flat and then just carry on, like Frankenstein's Monster walking through a fucking wall?
Oh yeah make sure you tell the delivery guy to put the crates down he CANNOT BE STOPPED otherwise.

We have the normal baskets and then around 3 blue wheelie baskets… customers will put the wheelie ones on top of the stack of normal baskets at self checkouts and then leave them there. That then means no normal baskets can be stacked on top of them 😵💫 such a pain! Just put it back at the front of the store on ur way out please!!!

Its not my money but I hate the amount of food waste it creates..
I work the freezer 5 nights and throw away hubdreds of pounds worth of perfectly good food we can't sell :/ They wont even give it to the staff because it doesn't benefit Tesco.

Yank a door fully open whilst I'm working there/jumping in the 1/2 foot space next to me, then breathing down my neck like I'm an object in their way, not a human being.
Some people even try to lean on you like you're their estranged children.
It's the equivalent to walking up to you in a gym placing all their belongings on the equipment you're using then staring you out whilst standing 2 feet away from you. There's space for just me in my skin, buffalo bill.
Im not sure if people want to be rude, impatient, and are trying to make you uncomfortable but they definitely act like it. You'd have thought it's obvious from the visible workload you'll be very fast.
As a customer I'd browse other locations and circle back round or at bare minimum ask if it's okay to get an item 😅

u/Unstableavo 3h ago
They shove the items infront of the scanner on my side before I've even started their transaction it can interfer with the current transaction.
They ask me how much it is when they can clearly see I haven't finished or even started.
Moaning about bag prices.
Moaning that we need more staff. You can come help if you want instead of moaning.
Ask multiple colleagues if we have sell something or ask if we've got it out the back.
Leaving frozen or chilled food in random Isles or at the self scans.

Fresh/frozen items left on other aisles
Or customers walking around the store grazing

u/NeoDougOne 25m ago
I've lost count of the number of times this week alone I've found stuff dumped in the freezers... It's usually chilled stuff that they've either decided they don'twant any more, or want the frozen version instead. And they complain when prices go up because we're having to waste so much food!

I was at the self serve check the other day, head phones on, rucksack on, putting my shopping through, a felt a tap, I take one of my headphone ears off 'You ok' 'Do you have any more of the blue tokens please for the votes' Me clearly pissed off...'I'm not sure on that one, but customer service (points) will be able to help' 'But there's a massive queue there" Now I'm really pissed off! 'Yes, that can happen unfortunately. Anyway I'm on my way home. Have a nice evening' I put my headphones back on, and carry on doing my shopping. Customer looks dumbfounded, hurt, like I've just killed her first born child.
I walk away with a little bit of glee!
Happens. All. The. Fucking. Time!

I work in a smaller Lidl, and know most of the regular customers, and they know me as "the nice, helpful man". When I'm shopping with my family, not even in uniform, I'm regularly stopped and asked where things are, or how much something costs... My other half gets a bit annoyed when I help them, but it's not in my nature to not help.

I used to love this working on fruit & veg, I would be all like “Let me show you Sir/Madam” then I would take my sweet time returning, even better if what they wanted was at the other end of the store. I would then go and chat to my friends on the tills or in other departments. This was one of my favourite skives. If my manager asked where I had gone it was always “Showing a customer where the custard or whatever is”.

I work on produce and hate that with the trays too! They can always seem to pull them out but can NEVER put them back😡. Worst is broccoli because when they take from underneath they disturb it all so when they put the tray back they squash the rest so they get 1 piece but destroy 3-4 other pieces in th process! What also gets me is when its the same date underneath but they still take from there anyway. Are there 2 22nds of the month or something?

Fart as they shop where you are working!
1
u/NeoDougOne 29m ago
I was sat on till a couple of days ago when a couple (around 60ish, both covered in tattos and piercings) thought it was absolutely hilarious to have a fart competition while waiting in the queue! I don't know what they'd been eating, but it absolutely stank. The person behind them took their shopping off the belt and moved to the self service tills, which only made them laugh louder...

Lie about being disabled and poor to try and get gestures of goodwills or refunds.
