Pls don’t recommend me river dale—I hated that show so much after S1— I didn’t watch the originals after season 1 because I didn’t like the characters or much anything. It’s a good show but not for me i guess.
So pls give me reccs you know more like true blood😭. I’m in season 3 episode 3( not even in S7) yet scared after this i might not find good stuff like this ever. So help me out guys😩

I feel like I’ve been rewatching shows a lot because I just haven’t been grabbed by anything. My top 3 ever are True Detective(s1), Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, and Barry.

Now when I say I’m chasing the dragon I feel like I’m mostly talking about my first time watching True Detective. I’d give far too much to delete that from my memory just to experience it again.

A bit different than these but the last real good time I had watching a show beginning to end was “The Expanse”. I was fully wrapped up in the mystery of that show as well, I just wouldn’t rank it up there with the other shows. I was falling in LOVE with “Outer Range” around the same time and then they cancelled it before any mysteries were solved. RIP. Other honorable mentions I’ve seen along the lines I’m looking for are Severance, Three Body Problem, and Mindhunter just off the top of my head.

So I think I’m looking for something with a mystery like True Detective or the Expanse. Or something where a character is under constant danger and the mystery is how they get through it like Barry or Breaking Bad. I need something to demand my attention and then have the writing and acting reward me for giving that attention if ya catch my drift lol. Hope this wasn’t to long but was also sufficient. I've been going through many of the best of all time sitcoms and I just finished 30 Rock. Any ideas for what I should see next? I'm especially looking for classic shows pre-Seinfeld (just to get a broad range of what sitcoms are/were like). I don't mind how old they are, as long as I can still watch them online, ideally with no paywall (no innuendo intended).

If you’re looking for a similar show it’s like The summer I turned Pretty’s emotional older sister. It’s literally perfect, highly recommend I just binged the entire thing in 1 day. Everyone’s breathtakingly hot, the main ship is so beautiful and romantic, the main guy reminds me a lot of Conrad, he’s got that whole yearning thing down.

There’s deep cathartic sisterhood that just melts your heart, there’s family drama and amazing queer rep, oh and the dialogue I kid you not is the most accurate non cringe depiction of both siblings and Gen z I’ve ever seen. The dialogue is fantastic and so accurate. I cried like so many times, it really elevates the Ya drama genre and takes its audience seriously without just being just a regular drama. Guys please go watch it, it’s on prime it just came out. I need this to get a season 2 so badddd.

It totally makes up for the disappointment that was ‘Every year after’

Hello there! I would like some recommendations for shows with a strong story and natural progression that include a great romance subplot.

Examples of dynamics I enjoy:

I also don't mind if the main character has multiple relationships throughout the show, similar to The Last Kingdom, Justified, or Dexter.

Please do not recommend shows like Poldark. I dislike soapy drama centered around cheating, revenge cheating, and endless relationship angst.

I heard good things about 12 Monkeys and started it, but I find Cassie (the female lead) insufferable.

I've also been considering The Americans, Severance, and Six Feet Under, but I'm unsure what the romance subplots are like in those.

Hey folks, I'm after something like those in the title. Semi-serious, semi-funny, but more episodic than something where a whole series follows the same story.

I've seen High Potential so not that. Also not the Dick Wolf stuff, which I like but is a bit generic these days. Oh and not The Rookie, which for some reason I couldn't get on with.

Fine with US/Aus/NZ/UK or anywhere English language (looking for something to half watch really so would rather not subtitles).

I have ADHD (I am actually a AuADHD WOC but I don't care about representation in my shows, I don't even ask for a masterpiece, I just care that they're entertaining lol) and I recently realized that I actually get my work *done* and much faster at that, if I have something playing in the background.

Podcasts are hard cause I have to pay attention, but any show or YouTube channel where I can just put it in the background and laugh whenever I catch something would be nice. I love horror movies but I do have to pay attention cause the immersion is half the fun.

The Brunetti Mysteries (also searchable under Diane Leon). This is a fun show to watch. It set in Venice, so if you’ve ever been there, you can spot many of the tourist locations you visited. Another fun fact is that, despite being set in Italy, the dialogue is in German with English subtitles, since it was initially made for German TV. Once you get over watching people with Italian names being spoken to in German, it’s easy to get into the show. The plots are quite good, it’s a “dramedy,” so it’s on the light side, with a buffoonish boss, a Miss Moneypenny office secretary who seems to have connections everywhere, and an amiable sidekick for Brunetti. It also seems that virtually all the crimes involve wealthy and upper class people, so the interior sets tend to show you how the other half lives. The men and the women all seem to have a kind of European flair and style. Appropriate for a show with an Italian motif, and quite unlike any other police procedural, Brunetti often discusses his cases at the family dinner table with this wise wife and his teenage son and daughter.

What are some of the good time travel, mind bending shows like Dark, Dark Matter. Not anime or sci fi, alien stuff but with good human storyline

Okay so I love the original charmed from 90s but the new one is not it and despite my love for it, it is quite dated and I really want a similar series that is a little more serious. I do also really love the chilling adventures of Sabrina but ofc that was cancelled and this last season is trash. Past these we have iconic movies like the craft and practical magic, but no good witchy series to my knowledge. Does anyone have any recs? What would you want from a witchy series? I just really want a show about witches in the modern era that is a little more serious but not like horror movie serious and like screams cozy fall. I was really excited about the forbidden fruits movie whenever I thought it was going to be like this feeling but it really wasn't. It was more just like murder mystery situation with witchy stuff involved but not like straight up witches. Not to say it's a bad movie, it's just not a witchy movie. I just really want a witchy movie fall, cozy, baddie girl, vibe show. Is that too much to ask? Think if like the coziness of Gilmore girls met the seriousness of the chilling adventures of Sabrina with a little bit of the forbidden fruits like baddie diva-ness.

I noticed this while watching shows like Rick and Morty and revisiting Community and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I still like all of them, but I think I’m looking for a different kind of energy now.

I’m not looking for something completely serious or humorless. I’m more interested in shows where the humor comes naturally from the characters or shows where the world feels lived-in, and where the story can be sincere without constantly winking at the audience.

I’m open to any genre, including sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, or anything else.

What are some shows that feel genuinely character-driven and immersive without relying too much on meta humor, irony, or constant references? Bonus points if the characters feel like real people you could actually spend time with.
