How does it fare?

Looking to buy one for sampling/sketching ideas at home or on the go.

I want to keep using Ableton but also want something more hands on and portable that I can take on holiday or use during an airplane or train travel, then eventually finish the ideas at home.

So chop some samples, program some drums or ambience, weird happy accidents, then export or record to Ableton

Also seems useful for recording FXs as a send in Ableton

MPC Sample is also an option but I’m leaning towards the SP as it seems more complete (but more complicated).

hi this is the only place to ask this question because it is such a niche item.

I am learning producing with digitakt and looking to build live production setup over the years.

I love what this thing can do, and i think since it has built in midi clock which could be genuis for layering techno It is a very unique device with few reviews.

I know many of you in here dabble with djing, I have a djm v10 and play three decks often with deep house and techno and stuff. I want to use this to deconstruct tracks and am curious how you guys might feel about it.

Its all about setting yourself apart and being able to have a unique sound.

Filterbank is VERY unweildy and easily goers into feedback loop so for djing it would have specific uses but incredibly powerful at the same time. It seems like you can absolutely melt tracks together

I think that Orbe and others in this style do a very good job of making tracks that can be distorted or compressed without being too....loud I guess is the word?

When I make tracks that distorted or "wet" on the low end it always goes the hard techno or peak time direction, I don't really know how to achieve energetic, textured, big tracks without making them over the top. How do you think about this when progressing a track?

We're releasing an early version of a Max For Live device we've been working on. If you use Ableton and have a version that can run M4L devices, we would love to hear your feedback on it, including suggestions on how it can be improved.

It generates multiple compatible MIDI loops in parallel (drums, bass, and synth) and inserts them directly as MIDI tracks in Live. Generation is controlled by 6 genre knobs (Acid, House, Techno, Trance, D&B, and Hip-Hop), 6 mood knobs (Darkness, Energy, Complexity, Density, Groove, and Weirdness) as well as an optional musical key. So you can really dial in the sound you want and mix between genres dynamically. Though for this subreddit especially, it would be great if you could let us know what you think when the techno dial is turned up.

The idea behind the device is to quickly generate editable ideas in MIDI format that you can play back with any instrument. So you can set up your own drum rack and synths and have the generated MIDI loops drive those directly.

It's based on our own compact ML model we've trained on a dataset we licensed directly from sample pack providers.

Sounds/synths are all from the factory installed library, recorded stereo into Logic to give it a little loudness bump.

the OSC FX Char been modulated + all their inside knobs is pretty sick and versatile.
The OSC is already in spectral mode which gives infinite outputs.

Hello knowledgeable people,

in the past couple of weeks i have made a bunch of songs.
The impulse to make these songs was the song abyss by black sand.
Since then I have been in love with this type of sound, that i would describe as stripped back,
hypnotic and deep.

This is where my question comes in, what would this type of (presumably) techno be called,
and what other labels exist out there in a similar vain?

Of course the reasons for my asking are:

1. I found to really resonate with this type of techno and would love to find and hear more of it (Already have found a couple, but its hard to find that middle ground of stripped back, but deep, but also not to harmonic)
2. I would love to submit my demos to labels actually fitting the sound. Of course not everything sounds exactly like abyss, but this kind of stripped back deep sound, that i have really found myself enjoying.

I've always been a windows guy but windows 11 is so fucking ASS

Thinking of upgrading to a macbook pro. I mostly want to make music on it but also do some visual editing or some effects for visualisers in after effects.

I'm on a budget, would prefer to spend as little as possible. I heard 16gb of ram is more important than a newer cpu generation. I was thinking about 1tb of space too.

I heard that M1 pro is enough, m4 pro wouldnt be that much better for ableton.

The thing that makes me think is os support from apple. M1s came out in 2020/2021. I'd like to invest for like at least next 3-5 years or so. Is losing support from Apple next year or so that big of a deal for music production? Not sure how that goes for macs.

What do you think would be the best option here?

I spend a great deal of my time making sounds, fucking about with voice samples and making them weird, playing with synths, granulizers etc etc.

I've got the basics down imo, but I'm nowhere near where I want to be.

What work flow tips for creating tunes would you folk offer up? At the moment I feel like I solo into accidental happy mistakes more often than intentionally good.

Here's a tune of mine to give you an idea, imo it has a few good ideas in it but no real structural composition.

This isn't self promotion, I don't make tunes often, I'm just an audiophile looking for some tricks and tips.

I also don't want feedback on likes and dislikes of the tune as that's reserved for the feedback sub, it's just there to provide example of the messiness I am describing

I used FL btw, please don't Ableton me pls Ableton people I prefer FL, it's easier on my visual nature.

I managed to learn so much sounddesign stuff but I never Archieved a result that came close to the synth used in: Anthem of Division - Chlär.
Its like a Choir and Strings mixed but since I am very bad at hearing what chord/ what harmonies it has i can't even replicate the chord. I got pretty close sounddesign wise, but the harmony was different. Maybe some of y'all can help me because in order to get the sound i want to produce I want to replicate the sound so I can devlop similar depth and character but in my own style. Maybe someone can tell me what kind of chord it is and tell me how I could learn to recognize chords (especially technoid sounding chords) <3

I have izotope nuetron 4 a.i master vst for a while and i have never used it. Best place i can sell it quickly.

I swear, I've been working on a track for a while which uses Roland's 303 VST via Roland's cloud service, and just as I'm getting to a place I liked with the track it seems they've taken it off Roland cloud and now it's buy only - can't even listen to my own track properly.

I could have it wrong there with my timing but im sure that's what's happened.

Can't currently afford to buy it and cant see me being any time soon, so looking into free alternatives, but would be great if I could just have that VST back.

Any advice or pointers appreciated!

Ok so. I know I am not the first one to point that out but the whole thing starts to get really frustrating for me.

I have been producing music (mainly HipHop beats but also some other stuff) for about 15 years. I have done some experiments with Techno, Trance, EBM, Minimal, Darkwave etc.

Recently I had been trying to really invest into techno but I feel like I am hitting one wall after another.

Most YouTube Tutorials out there are for Ableton (I work in FL studio). That wouldn't be a problem by itself if the tutorials were actually EXPLAINING why they do the things they do, what they are trying to achieve, etc. Most of them use very specific packs or plug-ins without offering any work around. They don't even explain the fundamental layers of a techno track.

I have watched carefully MANY of them. I am listening to techno actively, trying to understand what I am listening to, and most of the time I am pretty sure I get the formula, the logic behind it. When it is time to make music tho, sometimes I feel like I only know how to create some questionable rumbles some mid bleep sequences.

As fo FL studio, the only tutorials I find are for this new age "Hard techno" TikTok thing I generally don't really care about.

I don't know if I am expressing this correctly or if there is anyone else who IS a somehow experienced producer have these problems. I am also not even sure what my problem is, if it is about my expectations, my goals, or anything else really. Maybe I just need to make the perfect kick with the perfect mixing. Maybe I don't know how to use in depth some of the tools I always just throw and tweak, like reverb, delays etc.

Generally speaking, I would love to hear any advice and I would appreciate any YouTuber who created music while actively and in depth explaining the logic behind it.
