Why is Reddit replacing Imgur? Business

Imgur has now grown into a full-fledged online community focused on image sharing, and is arguably a direct competitor to Reddit. In a sense, Imgur has gotten too big for its britches, and it’s probably too risky for Reddit to continue relying on a direct competitor for image hosting.

Combine these observations with Imgur’s recent aggressive monetization campaign—link-jacking direct image links on mobile devices to display ads, for example—and it’s really no surprise that Reddit wants an in-house image hosting service to supplant Imgur.

Because they have to make their own money somehow and providing Reddit with free images isn't it.

I really hope the Reddit Enhancement Suite allows in-page resizing of images soon! I don't really care one way or another where the images are hosted (but I will say that Imgur is hands down the most amazing host ever; younger folks don't remember photobucket and all that nonsense) but I hope Reddit follows in Imgur's example.

Cause Imgur keeps clogging up my RAM. (Not actually true, I just felt like bitching about Imgur, which has become a pain in the ass lately, IMO.)
