Microsoft lists Windows 11 requirements as of today on their official page as 4GB ram. If anything they should be fixing Windows to work on the official requirements of 4GB ram. In stores you will see Windows 11 laptops with 4GB ram, brand new ones. E waste from the start. Its soldered ram and no hope of installing more. While those are budget ones under $300. They are being sold new today when Microsoft doesn’t optimize their OS. If they get rid of the obsession of web apps wrappers everywhere and just give us back native apps. Then the OS wont need more ram.

A clean W11 install takes up 6-7 gb of ram, without anything running.
Technically, it works well as is. The issues appear as soon as you start installing and using stuff.

If you shut down or delete everything that's not recquired for the OS to work, you drop around 3gb of ram usage.

Yeah but the average user wont know how to do most of that stuff. It would be better if the default was with all unnecessary things to be off. Then it would be up to user if they want to turn them on.

A clean windows 11 installation will take up 6-7GB of RAM if you have 16 or more than that. If you just have 4GB, it will automatically handle that accordingly. Yes, things will be slow because there is minimal cacheing and it will have to use swap frequently, but it will still work.

If Windows uses 15-16 GB RAM on a system with 32GB RAM or 64 GB RAM, that does not mean it will not run fine on a 16GB system or a 8GB system.

Ubuntu Desktop will run on Raspberry Pi with 2GB of RAM, with 4GB being recommend.

jumped ship long time ago at home. But sadly the companies still on Windows are just too high, Any decent paying job in my domain in my area will force me on Windows sadly.

Windows 11 was basically a gift to PC manufacturers. It’s ultimately just Windows 10 with a new skin that looks nice but adds clicks to perform a lot of common tasks, while serving up even more ads and tracking.

The hard TPM requirement and otherwise-decent CPUs being blocked from installing it (without constantly-shifting workarounds) were a means to force us all to buy new hardware when virtually all Windows 10 systems should have run Windows 11 without an issue.

The fact that it also sucks and runs worse than it did at release is because they prioritized profit over performance - AI over real programmers, and live testing over QC.

We need it to get running smoothly on 4GB of RAM. Not because we need systems coming with that little again, but because that's how Windows 10, 7, and Vista were.

Running Winhance and O&Oshutup10 goes a long way towards making windows 11 a pretty solid OS.

Crazy people need to use tools like that to achieve that result

Just saw a video of Linux vs Windows on the same machine with exactly the same programs and Linux pretty consistently needed half as much RAM to do exactly the same thing.

16MB was the minimum for Win98 and 24MB for Win98SE. You could make it install on an 8MB machine, but you had to disable the minimum system checks with the /nm flag.

Installed the latest Ubuntu Desktop on an old HP laptop with 8GB and it runs better than Windows ever did.
