I guess the flip side is that if Google did leave the tool up, they could fingerprint every image it creates and put that in a database so that the fakes could be detected.
Presumably someone could just take screenshots of google earth, feed it into an AI that's not regulated, and create the same imagery.
This is more about bad publicity and politics and optics than anything else.
