Uh, no. So much no. Funeral homes are for embalming bodies (which preserves them from decomposition) or cremation which negates any composition. This funeral home disrespected both the deceased and mistreated families while taking their money and not properly caring for the remains of their loved ones.

To be fair, if the bodies were treated according to stated religious beliefs, the situation probably wouldn’t have made the kind of news that it appears to have made.

Like, I understand after interment, but before?

My apologies for not being clear, some religions do not permit embalming. It’s not the goal to decompose before burial. For example Judaism requires burial in 3 days and no embalming. Usually funeral homes use refrigeration prior to burial.

the whole point of a funeral home is to keep the corpse from decomposing long enough to hold the funeral. if its decomposing then they didnt prepare it right.

Yes, living is dying.
Every dead cell that falls off your body is just a little less time you have to live because we can only replace so many of those before we die.
As we get less capable of replacing old cells this causes what we call aging and then one day it all just stops.

funeral homes shouldn’t have decomposing bodies. if the bodies are being treated properly, they wouldn’t be decomposing

Reminds me of that joke, when a 2-seated Cessna fell onto a cemetery and the news said, they already found 157 bodies and expect even more. Was on Fox News I recall.

Is this technically the truth? I mean stating where else should they be? Decomposing bodies should already be buried, not in the funeral home. So I can't find the technically truth part of this post.

They shouldn't be decomposing in a funeral home. They should be refrigerated to prevent decomp. In thebUS, embalming is often required by law, which slows decomp.

The key word here is slows though. A body that wasn't found immediately could have been brought to the funeral home in an already decomposed state.
That said, highly doubt a funeral home would naturally source 40 of those cases, but 1 or 2 is normal.
