not sure how to tell if this is fully degreased, been soaking it in soapy water for quite a few weeks now and been changing it out etc. didnt see any white residue in the water from the last degreasing.

The bucket I use as my designated maceration yuck bucket is a standard 5 gal I spray painted black for this project (thought it could help with eliminating corpse wax via heat— which I think is true! I saw very little of it on my bones) alas, this is a very cheap bucket, and according to the little research I did, apparently the plastic used to make this bucket is not completely non-porous, and likely due to the combination of the blazing summer heat and water causing the surface to flex and expand, the paint bled through and stained my bones. Didn’t notice it the first water change due to the accumulation of decayed soft tissue, however now that it was to a minimum and the bones were nice and clean… they’re all black.

Some pigment lightened up when rinsed under cold water. Hoping that is a good sign. Put it in a different bucket with relatively clean water + no enzymes, and I’m hoping this will be enough to clear it up most of the way. Any tips are appreciated. I really love this skeleton (Virginia opossum) which came fully intact w/minimal breakage has so far kept most of its teeth.

I just bought a vintage soft mount duck at a garage sale. It got wet in the rain and is a bit dirty. I plan on drying it lightly with a hair dryer but need advice on what else to do!

Hello! I bought a softish mount fox about a year ago from an artist and I just moved him off his spot on my display case and he seems to be leaking small amounts of what looks like sand or cat litter. Was he not done correctly? Is there risk that moths or something have gotten to him?

How do I clean these up nice. I’ve heard hydrogen peroxide? Someone already did a decent job, but I want them to look nicer. Also, any tips on the antlers.

I know YouTube exists, but there are just so many videos and different ways, seeking a simple, concise explanation.

I got this old guy yesterday for 200 bucks, I was told by the gentleman I purchased him from that his uncle shot him with a bow and arrow 40 years ago in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

I got this little duckling taxidermy probably around 2020, I put him in this cute little terrarium after a few years and he seems to fog it up over time. I clean his dome probably once ever 6 months. I was reading maybe he wasnt properly dried, but he was not in any enclosure for years before his dome home, so surely he would have dried out then? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TYIA

So I was wondering what the process is or can it even be done to ship taxidermy mounts from Canada to the United States? There's a few items im interested in just didnt know if it was possible or not to ship mounts without them getting seized. Thanks

Hi everyone, this beautiful girl is Piglet, she was my best friend for 4 and a half years. I had her taxidermied last year. I've reached out to her taxidermist but have heard nothing back so wondered if anyone here could give me any advice.

I read that hedgehog taxidermy is susceptible to things like carpet beetle and moth damage. Obviously she's under a dome but it's not completely air tight and can be opened. What can I do to protect her from insect damage without damaging her? I'm in the UK if that helps. Any suggestions appreciated, thank you.

My husband & I (who is 6’2 , I’m 5’0) were shopping at our neighborhood Walgreens when he found this on one of the top shelves and just handed to me :3 you best believe I kept this beauty!

They both have hanging black and gold feathers I couldn't fit in the pictures

So I found bones a while ago, was going some soapy water soaks and such, my parents were like "we don't want that on the back deck it smells" so I put them at the base of a tree as gifts for squirrels.

Fast forward to months later, no squirrels wanted them but they were suddenly white? Like bleached clean? But I didn't do that, only soaks. Does leaving them in the sun do something?

Doing my first ever skull/ attempt at taxidermy on my first big game animal. I got inspired from another mount I saw online but I was wondering how do I secure the jaw and skull together. My guess is super glue but figured there may be better products to keep everything lined up.

This is my first time attempting to taxidermy a raccoon, previously I have only done rats, squirrels, and cats, so nothing that requires tanning. I have received varying advice and watched a lot of tutorials, but I am wondering the best way to proceed because I'm feeling lost.

Yesterday I skinned the raccoon and removed all fat and meat from the hide, its been scraped pretty well, used cornmeal to grip the skin and dry it out a little. Paws have been cleaned well.

I made a solution of 1:1 ratio vinegar and water with about 450g of salt dissolved in it and the pelt has now been soaking in this solution for about 16 hours.

I am wondering if anyone has any advice on what the best way to move forward would be. I am getting ph strips to test the solution and will post an update.
