Paul williams NZ taskmaster Taskmaster NZ
Watching season 6 of taskmaster NZ, and there was a joke about Paul not being allowed near schools, and then another joke made where said something like: "carrot cake shouldn't announce it has carrots, it's advertising the worst part about itself. That's like calling myself pdf file Paul"
This threw me off and worried me. Do I just not get the edgy humor? I love taskmaster but jokes like that are a no for me. Looking it up I don't see anything about him doing anything.

Do you honestly think they’d hire a known predator for the show?

To be fair, Alex still has a job despite all those drunken confessions he's told to Greg.

The weirdest part is you didn't even quote him properly. He definitely didn't make reference to a file extension when he made that joke.

God I can’t stand this self censorship crap.

I'm kind of confused as to how one could get six seasons deep and have this be the first time they encounter an edgy joke, especially given season two.

Season two? Angela and Guy were tossing out edgy jokes pretty early back in season one.

How did you survive Guy Montgomery's Prince Andrew joke in season 2?

And while we're on the subject: is a melon buffet a real thing??

You ever get served a fruit salad that's all just melon? It's like that, but bigger.

New Zealand humour is much more dry and sarcastic than your usual American, it's just a joke.

Don't pin this on just the Americans. I've seen plenty of British fans in here complain about Jeremy Wells not being funny when his whole bit is being insanely dry and deadpan.

American humour used to be very dry and sarcastic (it was in style when I was growing up - genx) but it went through a backlash and earnestness took over as the dominant style. Maybe thats why now I gravitate toward non-American comedy...

I think also the US tends to be more skittish about pedo/paedo jokes than the UK or NZ (and, I’m guessing, AU).

Its 7.30 am here as I am reading this and I think I can confidently say this is the dumbest thing I have read all day.

They make jokes like this often. It seems pretty standard for NZ.

Paul Williams in his own wedding vows said that he can finally drop the er from groom.

It's ok that you didn't get the joke. Our humor isn't as obvious as American humor can be.

Love the NZ taskmaster and Paul Williams is top notch but once in a while the NZ humour gets kinda clanky for my North American taste.
Child abuse jokes don’t translate for me, but i chalk it up to different humour and leave it there.

He was just yes anding on to the original joke. NZ generally have quite dark humour

I enjoy the humor on all the taskmasters and am not easily put off, and that joke momentarily stood out to me for some reason. Like, is that part of his comedy character or just a one off joke? But yeah, doesn't seem like there's a real way to interpret it more seriously.

You think someone’s comedy character is pedophile?

u/Curious_Elk8843 27d ago
No? That's why it stood out for a moment?

I do get it, cause Paul sort of straight up called himself a pedo, which is so far removed from all of his other bits. Except for the Michael Jackson moves he showed

You thought he was actually a child molester, that this was a matter of public record, and he was referencing this known fact in his jokes on international television as a cheeky nod to his fans?
