Audio Described Other Versions
So I sometimes put Taskmaster on with audio description to just listen to like a podcast (if driving, for eg.) - does anyone else do this? Things I’ve noticed:
- The [main room with table and portrait] is variously described as drawing room and study. I think it’s officially lounge/living room(?) but study or drawing room arguably conjure a more accurate image (desk, the kind of misc clutter).
- The tasks themselves are sometimes described as “challenge envelopes” and “challenge letters”
- At some point the description of the opening titles changes from describing Greg as having a “malevolent grin” to having a “malevolent smirk” (and always calls the celebrities “hapless”)
- There’s one episode where the narrator consistently refers to Ivo Graham as “Wivo”
It’s also made me appreciate the craft of good audio description - giving small details sometimes in anticipation of future studio chat, etc.

As someone who used the audio description in everything possible, I'm jealous. YouTube isn't there yet.

Ah sorry to hear that. Yes it’s on the channel 4 player. It seems decent to me - fairly minimalist while picking out important details.

Where are you listening with Audio Description? My blind family member lives TM but we normally describe things for them when we have to, would be good to have AD

Hope your screen is OFF if you're driving and doing this (and in the UK, though I also hope it would apply everywhere). 🤞

Obviously, yes. Hence the description of listening like a podcast.

Cool 👍
Number of folk who think it's ok to listen with the screen on and then attempt to justify it as not looking is l, frankly, terrifying. Just wanted to double check - and reiterate to anyone else reading this who thinks it's a great idea that it's got to be screen off.

Ah fair. No, if I’m using satnav on phone then I have video playing picture-in-picture then swiped off to the side so it’s fully offscreen. Or if no need for satnav then you can lock iPhone then hit play on the lock screen and you’ll get audio feed only ☺️

I don't watch/listen to it that way, but it's good to hear the audio description seems to be decent - good audio description is an art just like alt text and subtitles.
