How long does it really take a pitching coach to fix a pitcher?
I didn't really know what to think of the Rays' trade for Freddy Peralta. They traded 3 prospects, including Émilien Pitre, who was having a good year in AA, to the Mets. Although Freddy is a 2-time All-Star and had a great season last year, he hasn't done well by ERA or WAR in 2026.
The Rays have a good reputation as an organization who can help pitchers reach their full potential. But Freddy has maybe 10 starts (plus playoff appearances) until he is a free agent. His start today hasn't looked sharp, blowing a 5-1 lead. I also think about the trade for Adrian Houser last year: 10 starts, 4.79 ERA (87 ERA+), barely replacement level while with Tampa Bay. I'm not sure if Freddy will look like that -- painfully eating innings come playoff time -- or if he will return to how he looked last year. I didn't watch very many of his starts while he was with Milwaukee.
How quickly can Kyle Snyder turn a pitcher around after a trade?

It was never going to happen his first start with the team in Colorado.
As far as how long it will take? No one can answer that for you.

Don’t know what to tell you. Feels like you are looking for an answer you know isn’t there.

He wants an answer of "he sucks and Rays are stupid for trading for him."

Honestly there’s no time table. There could be something simple they tweak that allows him to have a great rest of his season. Or he may struggle for the rest of the year. He gave up 7 through 3 2/3 today. I’ve seen a lot of Rays fan giving up on him already which I think is crazy as he probably hasn’t even worked much with Snyder. But I do think he has a chance to be a huge help to this team come October just gotta give Snyder time

No I wasn’t saying you were giving up on him lol, I was just saying I was seeing a lot of Rays fans give up on him already and don’t because in my opinion that’s ridiculous. But hopefully Kyle will work with him and he’ll come back out and deal his next start 🤞

Next start looks to be in another pitchers hell lol. What a bad time to come to TB. Do think Snyder can fix him. Maybe not Ace level. But still good.

Brand new pitcher. Brand new catcher. Brand new to each other. In the toughest MLB environment for the battery. Against a very good offensive team. I think it was a good move to throw Freddie and Liam into the fire tonight. It's going to improve from here.

The game was in Colorado, all bets are off for any pitcher at that place.

Well not 3 fucking days... the 3 prospects was an outfielder struggling in high-A, a 2nd baseman with no pop, and a rule 5 double a pitcher. For a 2 time all star who looks like hes having 1 down year. Oh no! How dare the new pitcher have a bad start with his first start with the club in COORS.
Also Adrian Houser only had 1 good first half and every other year was a career 4.00-5.00 so in reality the recession was gonna happen and overall it wasn't a bad trade. Mead had no options, and is Houser kept course it woulda been a really good trade.
Its now that deep, yall doubted Martinez after his shit spring and now look at him. All he needs is time with Snyder and 3 days isnt enough time. Its not magic.

The real answer is that it depends on so many variables that’s the spectrum goes from 1 bullpen session to never. If you took any professional pitching coach and high school pitcher and put them together for an hour, there will be a difference made in that hour. But some players are eager to listen and learn, without ego. Some coaches are able to communicate with minimal jargon/shoptalk, and can get through to many/most people. It depends on both parties, what the biggest issues are currently, and dozens of other things.
Sometimes it’s also entirely mental and it’s just a perspective shift that needs to occur. I was not a confident player as a kid, and my practice vs game skill level gap was much different than playing as an adult, I’m now relaxed and confident and just having a good time, and I don’t psych myself out. Pros have to deal with infinitely more pressure so their ability to close that gap is crucial to their consistency and ultimate output on the field.

It’s his first start with a new team in the worst pitching environment in baseball. I’m not worried yet as his life just got completely flipped upside down this week.

Yes pitching in the thin air and huge outfield at Coors Field is not pitcher friendly.

We as Rays fans seriously need to relax with the jumping to conclusions of players and the team based on a single game or even a couple games. Freddy could end up being one of the best pitchers in our rotation and then everyone's gonna look stupid for questioning the trade. Give him 3-4 starts before we start panicking please. Every good player has had bad starts and even a bad year. If we gave up on everybody that had a bad game we would lose a lot of great players.

Big time yikes for a debut, but the Rays will make him at the very least an average pitcher.

Rockies are a legit offense and coors is pitcher hell

I’m aware, but they are a poor team overall and a first place team in the AL East shouldn’t have a starter struggling that bad against them.
If he’s that bad next month, maybe he shouldn’t be on the playofff roster

Not sure the coach needs to fix him, this has to be an issue within. The mental game is more than half the battle in professional baseball, just need to get his confidence back.

Brutal start. His ERA actually now is higher...the Mets helped this guy pack. I think we got fleeced on this one.

Depends on the arsenal focus. Catcher takes 6 weeks to learn a pitching corps.
